John Carver has returned to Newcastle as assistant manager to Alan Pardew.

The 46-year-old, who fulfilled the same role when the late Sir Bobby Robson was in charge of the Magpies, has signed a contract until the end of the season.

Pardew told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to be bringing John on board. He has an excellent track record as a coach and of course knows this club very well."

sigh, you know assistant coaches are coaches too right? and John was a very highly thought of 2nd man at Newcastle for years. Good luck John! Glad to see him back home where he belongs

Well, as a manager, he's 13-21. I'm sorry, no matter what way you spin it, he doesn't have a great track record. Anyways, I wasn't questioning whether he was a highly though of 2nd man at Newcastle. I'm sure he was. Unfortunatley for him, he couldn't get it done in the MLS and he quit on his team mid-season. Doesn't say much about a person's track record if you ask me. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Do you blame him for it. If MLS didn't get refs from the local house leagues he wouldn't have argued with them lol

Good on John. All the best to him.

i was just joking. i actually enjoyed him going at it with the officials. managers up in the prem do it, calling their quality into question.

so i could imagine it eats some alive when they get here.

BBC had a sound bite a while ago of Carver complaining about Premiership reffing, so while MLS and CONCACAF have reffing issues, JC was just being JC.

Glad to see Carver back where he belongs at Newcastle. At the same time, it has to be kind of depressing for him that he has basically come full circle in his career, back to the same position.

John Carver says spell in MLS mellowed him

And while Carver’s passion for the Magpies can never be in question, he feels that his stint at faraway Toronto FC shaped his outlook on coaching and taught him how to deal with some of the game’s bigger characters.
