A very quick draft day review, which basically turned into a Chad Barrett love letter/highlights package. I'll miss him.

Plata promises goals for Toronto (http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/plata-promises-goals-toronto)

“I was very nervous,” admitted Plata with a bit of a chuckle, “ I knew that everything would turn out all right. And as I hoped, things did turn out well. Now, well, I’m very glad and [ready] to tear it up in this club.”
How Plata will fit into the plans of new head coach, Aron Winter, remains to be seen. Fast and with an eye for scoring, it seems like the Liga de Quito product would do well in the Total Football system the Dutch boss wants to implement.
No matter his role on his new team, “La Platita” (Little Silver) has big plans for 2011.
[B]“[I'll score] a lot of goals,” Plata promised. “I want to win a starting spot, which is foremost, and if given the opportunity, score lots of goals and show the team why they picked me.”

I like the confidence the kid has. And I hope he does tear it it up because we need goals!

49th pick is worth a shot at this kid to see if he can make it in the league.

Just a reminder that group of RPBs are going to the Raptors game tonight. We will be at Strathcona Pub before and few tickets are still available.

SSG: Yeah :hump:

Draft Day: I dont mind projects, but out of all the players selected I think the Salvadorian midfielder has the best chance to make an impact. I really don't like the 2nd round selection of the right back with Multiple Sclerosis, it might be in remission or the disease might not affect him at all but its such a douche move since we drafted for the second year in a row a 17 year old teenager with a disease. And this time the team cannot say that they didn't know about his disease.

Plata, on the other hand doesn't sound too bad, but I hope he grows another 2 inches.

Conclusion: I see these new players playing mainly in the reserve league for the entire season.

^^Which is all to be expected. MLS draft day =

it's all about speed and skill.

Mathieu Valbuena (Olympique Marseille, French National Team) is only 5'4" and I'd kill to have him on our team.

Exactly.

Sometimes you get a smaller player with the skillz. They run around everyone to make space, or run with the ball around other players, and that makes up for the fact that any large player could easily muscle them off the ball, because the large player never gets to them.

yep. anything that is 'different' than what other players are used to can be an advantage.

mornin d

seems like the new management team is going to bring football to our city

and they are even being nice about it blaming money on barretts departure ( which i am sure is part of it ) but the reality is that chad was a workhorse and a great member of our team but not a footballer in the beautiful sense

its not about speed and skill. speed is as god given as size. its about skill and skill. If he's good enough he'll succeed, like ferreira. But i do wish he was 6'2 and fast and skillful...but this is mls

That kid is a freakin ANIMAL. . .. now were talkin. .
If any of the n00bs can beat a defender and then make apass.. I will be VERY pleased.
this league is so short on players that can beat their man.. and pass into space.. .

Question for John Molinaro,

Yesterday (Jan 13), Toronto FC's website posted Canada's roster for the U23 Olympic team that included TFC players Nana Attakora and Ashtone Morgan.

http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2011/01...ora-morgan-u23 (http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2011/01/attakora-morgan-u23)

However, on the official Canada soccer website Ashtone Morgan's name is no where to be seen.

http://www.canadasoccer.com/news/vie...?Press_ID=4627 (http://www.canadasoccer.com/news/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=4627)

Would you be able to find out more info on this. It could be just a mistake. However, rumours are out there that he choose to play for Jamaica over Canada. Which, would be a big loss for Canada.

Yes, I noticed that, too!

I'm supposed to interview Stephen Hart, who is at the U23 Camp in Arizona right now, this evening and I was planning to ask him that question.

I'll let you know what he says.

John

Thanks John,

I appreciate it. Looks like Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk is seriously looking at Jonathon De Guzman: Article from December 29, 2010.

Translate to English on google:

Keep the pimp hand strong. There has to be media out there for the curious to get engaged even if they are not supporters or even casual fans. If there is no media content they will be discouraged. The internal Canadian market for soccer news consumption will only continue to grow - one of the few growth sports markets that could be poised to explode.
