So Celtic is not interested in Dero. Tomorrow should be interesting.

SG is not bad at all... not my usual taste but looks good!

It would be a shocker if Nana is not seen as a piece of the future of this club. DeRo looks to get another blow to his ego if he doesn't get the Landon treatment. I'm glad he's looking not to get the loan. It would make for some nail-biting Old Firm derbies.

This sounds like a good signing if it happens. Mintal has scored better than a goal every 3 games in his career including 7 seasons in the Bundesliga.

Wasn't Mintal rumoured to be going to Philly for $330K a year?

German daily Bild suggests that FC Nuremberg (http://www.tribalfootball.com/category/leagues/german-bundesliga/fc-nuremberg) striker Marek Mintal is on his way to Toronto to put the finishing touches on a deal with the MLS (http://www.tribalfootball.com/category/leagues/mls) club.
Toronto FC (http://www.tribalfootball.com/category/leagues/mls/toronto-fc) offered the 33-year old Slovakian a deal and it is believed that he is prepared to depart Nuremberg after seven-and-a-half years service.
Mintal is a former Slovakia international, making close to 50 appearances, in a career that has spanned 15 years.

He kicked off his professional playing days in his homeland with MSK Zilina in 1996 before moving onto the German Bundesliga (http://www.tribalfootball.com/category/leagues/german-bundesliga) with Nuremberg in 2003.

Thanks CretanBull.

His wiki, FYI:

Marek Mintál (born 2 September 1977 in Žilina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%BDilina)) is a Slovak international (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovakia_national_football_team) football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_football) player who currently plays for 1. FC Nuremberg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1._FC_Nuremberg) in the German Bundesliga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fu%C3%9Fball-Bundesliga).[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marek_Mint%C3%A1l#cite_note-0)

Mintál start to play football in Slovak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovakia) club MŠK Žilina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C5%A0K_%C5%BDilina), with whom he won back-to-back Slovak championships in 2001–02 and 2002–03. This was also due to his scoring 20 (2001–02) and 21 (2002–03) goals respectively. With this number of goals he also became the Slovak top scorer in both seasons. Therefore he was capped for the Slovak national team for the first time on 6 February 2002. He has won 33 caps and scored 11 goals for the Slovak national team.

After the 2002–03 season, he was transferred to 1. FC Nuremberg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1._FC_Nuremberg) for an alleged transfer fee of 100,000€ and an agreement that should Mintál be transferred again, MŠK Žilina would receive a portion of the transfer fee. His new club was playing in the Second Bundesliga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2._Fu%C3%9Fball-Bundesliga) at this time. He continued his scoring run by scoring 18 goals and becoming the German second division's leading scorer and was a crucial part of Nuremberg's immediate promotion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promotion_(sports)). During that season, Mintál, an offensive midfielder, became widely regarded for his inconspicous style of play, which has led to him being called "stealth bomber (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stealth_bomber)", "Sniper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sniper)" or "Phantom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost)". In the following year, Mintál led the [Bundesliga in scoring with 24 goals, and helped Nuremberg stave off relegation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promotion_and_relegation).

His continuous success in scoring goals sparked rumours that he might move to a bigger club during the 2005 summer break. He had been linked in transfer speculation with Liverpool (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_F.C.), Beşiktaş (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be%C5%9Fikta%C5%9F_J.K.), Villarreal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villarreal_CF) and VfB Stuttgart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VfB_Stuttgart). These rumours did not lead to a transfer and Mintal decided to stay at Nuremberg. However the following season turned out to be disastrous for the Slovak striker who broke his foot twice in the span of five months. Thus, the offensive midfielder only played in four games and scored just a single goal.

He celebrated his competitive comeback against Borussia Mönchengladbach (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borussia_M%C3%B6nchengladbach) when coming on as a substitute after 60 minutes. Two weeks later he also played for his country again, scoring two goals against Cyprus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyprus_national_football_team). Later the same year he was troubled again by his broken foot and had to undergo surgery for a second time.

Marek Mintál won the German Cup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DFB-Pokal) (DFB-Pokal) with 1. FC Nuremberg in the year 2007. In this game, he also scored a goal, during this match, he was injured by Fernando Meira (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_Meira), a Portuguese defender from VfB Stuttgart. 1. FC Nuremberg won the game 3-2 after extra time. He scored a brace in a UEFA Cup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Cup) Match against AZ Alkmaar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AZ_Alkmaar) to keep their European dreams alive.

Marek Mintal has a substantial pedigree by MLS standards and I would be hyped if he is signed by TFC. Unfortunately, the media can't seem to get the story straight as to whether he is headed to T.O. or Philly...

That sucks, I haven't seen the details but based on what's being said in the chat it looks like its a salary dump for allocation.

From John's article:

"They didn't like me at first but the fans came around. I really appreciated everything they did for me. The fact that they made me earn their love, it made it even sweeter when they did come around," Barrett said.
So true. I remember being so incredibly frustrated with him for his first season, but eventually came around a bit as he progressed.

Chad, you will be missed.

Also on Thursday, Toronto FC traded backup goalkeeper Jon Conway to the Chicago Fire for a third-round pick in the MLS draft. TFC used the pick to select midfielder Joao Plata of Ecuador.

Yah...Sucks to hear about Conway. What was his record with TFC this past season? We seemed to get points in every match he was playing in. However we know who our #1 is so hopefully this is a good move for Jon.
