MLS SuperDraft trimmed to three rounds

Supplemental Draft also returns after two-year hiatus


"NEW YORK – Major League Soccer officials announced Wednesday that the MLS SuperDraft will return to a three-round event this year, and the following Supplemental Draft will return this year and will also consist of three rounds."

^Not quite. What they were saying kind of makes sense. When TFC came into existence it was 4 rounds of 13 picks for a total of 52. Now there are 18 teams; at 3 rounds, that's 54 picks. Makes sense.

according to article, they will be 1st rd picks in supplemental draft

so in real terms the draft is actually expanding, since now we have 6 rounds (3 super. 3 supplemental), when last year we had 4 superdraft rounds. I don't really understand the need for the supplemental draft. Most of those kids nobody would fight over anyways if they were just allowed to be free agents.
