Wow. Grammar fail in the MLSSoccer.com headline — I was wondering why the hell we were now interested in Beckham.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

A story on how the Argo's lost out on building a new stadium (BMO Field)

^That is major revisionist history re the Argos, MLSE and BMO.

The Argos and MLSE were together on this at the beginning, and for a long time. The ties were strong. MLSE was fine with the dual use. Tanenbaum, Sokolowski and Cynamon are all part of the same social set.

Cynamon and Sokolowski broke away from the MLSE/CSA group, I believe first for the York site (I can't quite remember the sequence of events), then when they returned to Skydome. It was very bitter. Tanenbaum felt he was double crossed. The Argo owners have a different story. But City Council sided with MLSE and blamed the Argos for pursuing their own deal, and it's why there wasn't huge amounts of goodwill with Miller or at City Council during the "Argos to BMO" debate last year, whatever the minutes say.

It got personal, and remains personal to this day. MLSE's interest in keeping the Argos out of BMO is about more than business.

funny that the author talks about the problem of multi-use at Skydome (no good for any sport) and then implies there's a problem with a soccer-only stadium.

Naylor is a CFL guy that values the CFL over MLS.

I want the Argos in a small outdoor stadium as well but I also want Canada's NATIONAL SOCCER Stadium to be a only footy one as well.

If Mariner has really only become a discussion point recently that tells me that the FO have NOTHING going on in terms of signing anyone of significance. Why am I not surprised.
I'll take Mariner, he's better than Dasovic IMO.

P.S. Our front office are muppets. Every one of them.

Some corrections here: MLSE was sniffing around when the stadium was proposed to be at Varsity. But they were never really a partner. When that deal fell through the Argo owners started to look at the York U. site. MLSE had no interest in putting an MLS team in a stadium at York U. It was after the York U. deal fell through that MLSE came back into the picture when the Ex grounds became the last option.
