it's funny as well when the interviewer asks him how many people are in the group, he says "we're not that organized, probably 20 to 30 guys..." I was actually surprised when I first saw that video that they only had 20-30 guys.. hahah. Anybody else would not have said a negative, and would have lied about numbers! at least he's honest ;) ;)

Rivalry...???

Wow, and people hear complain that the Columbus rivalry is fabricated...

The WhiteCaps have done, errr, nothing in MLS, NCC, or two us supporters...

Columbus (unfortunately) regularly kicks our ass and treats us like dogshit when we attend games...

But, according to some, Vancouver is already a rivalry, while Columbus is fake and we don't really hate them...

I'm sure there'll be a set amount of "away" tickets. there legally has to be, and weren't vancouver involved with the cascadia clubs lobbying for higher numbers? what he's talking about is making sure all the other tickets are sold out so tfc fans aren't dotted randomly through the stadium and taking it over like leafs fans at gm place.

I went to a game at Swanguard in 2009 to see TFC against Vancouver. I'm not sure if anything has changed but other than the 100 or so supporters behind the net it was a very family friendly crowd. If the TFC supporters going out in March are anything like the ones that went to Columbus it will scare the crap out of them :flare:

Where did this rivalry with Vancouver come from? I am going to go to Vancouver simply because it's a trip I have wanted to make since they announced their joining the MLS ranks, but I don't view them with any particular disdain like I do Columbus. Columbus was a manufactured rivalry only validated by the heavy-handed tactics of the stadium and the police coupled with the douchebaggery of their supporters. Lightning rarely hits twice in the same spot.

I don't blame Vancouver for selling as many tickets as they can to their supporters and as few as they can get away with to visitors

TFC have done the same thing, and when the North stand came in and there was an option for us to provide larger allocations to visiting fans. Paul B said he was going to put those extra tickets in the hands of TFC supporters.

This is another thing TFC has not had in the past and must look for in hiring coach/GM.
We need someone that can maximize the skill of lesser talent in this league, as well as be able to keep good players for longer than a year or two.

They just have "little brother syndrome" like Montreal and pretty much every other city in Canada that likes to consider themselves a "big city" has. In the end, it doesn't make for a rivalry as much as it uncovers a latent jealousy they have. They want to be us but they can't be, so they hate us instead. Toronto's response is generally a shrug of the shoulders.

Toronto does take a beating on the west coast, but its understandable. For example, when the Canucks play a game in Toronto game time is 7pm EST - 4pm Pacific, when the leafs play IN Vancouver, the game time is 7pm EST - 4pm Pacific...afternoon games suck, but TO needs there hockey at 7pm EST, so 7pm EST it is regardless of where the game is played.

That and alot of ppl from Toronto think they are bigger and thus better then anything out west, leading to a dislike for the "center of the universe" as TO is refered to on the west coast. Little man syndrom has nothing to do with it...

and what on earth does that mean???

why would they resent Toronto simply because they don't want to be like Toronto? - makes absolutely no sense - nobody that i've ever known from Toronto wants the rest of the country to be like Toronto - actually most people from Toronto don't even think about it other than when a Torontonian visits any other place in the country and says they're from Toronto - they spend the rest of the evening hearing about how awful Toronto is - its exhausting frankly. when i lived in Calgary for a year after a while i said i was from Willowdale, a small town in Ontario and we'd be ok for the evening - i got sick of saying I was from Toronto and the evening ending there - boring, totally boring....

Dude, I was referring to an exact quote in this thread, from a Torontonian, saying other cities are jealous of Toronto.

Whether in jest or not -- and it's Roogsy, so I certainly don't really take it seriously -- that attitude IS one other Canadians hear from Torontonians, constantly, one of superiority. It's not a reflection on all Torontonians, just that certain people see it as a "status city", which is why they choose to live there.

Back in the 70s, it was Montrealers.

We don't hate Toronto. We just hate hearing about it incessantly. Me? It's inevitable, since I choose to support a team from TO.

billyfly
12-21-2010, 09:05 PM
Why can't we be superior? We are in many ways. What's wrong with this?

The Best? There are other things that I like about other Canadian cities but Toronto has more Big City than any oither part of Canada. We are an Global Alpha City - look it up.

Sorry Jloome, the only thing that is incessant is other cities making fun of Toronto or Hogtown and frankly they can F OFF.

Citizens of a city dont make the times when games are played. It's the League, and TV Networks. If they see that Toronto has better ratings, they will give us the prime slot. Its not because 'we need our hockey' its because there are more people here watching the games, so the TV stations and league can make more money.

And I love these arguments. Toronto seems to get such a bad image for thinking they are the 'center of the universe.' I have never seen anyone bash vancouver, or any other part of Canada (Montreal) and saying that Toronto is better.

You do often hear people say "TORONTO SUCKS VANCOUVER IS MUCH BETTER!!!!111!!eleven!!11". Most people that bash Toronto are hypocriates. They are doing exactly what they hate Torontonians for. I really dont understand why we get such a bad image. Maybe its because we simply dont care that people dont like us?

Take two parochial view points and what do you have? A guy from Toronto who has his head up his ass thinking the world stops north of the 401 and the opposite end some Toronto-probe who thinks that the city sucks but has no clue what it offers.

Separate point: I think Marvell Wynne is a really nice guy, but I would not take him back. They replay those playoffs 9 more times, Colorado wins one time out of ten. Good on them for beating the odds, but they weren't the best team in MLS this year and Marvell Wynne is not someone i want starting anywhere on the backline.
