Portland knows their marketing. Looks like MLSE may no longer be the "best marketing team" in MLS. LOL

I still remember their commercials leading up to the unveiling of their new logo which were top class.

This is so corny...

It's a shame. But beats the one that Van had of all these guys (including a guy holding a baby) menacingly standing around one lone TFC player.

Anyway, if they're marketing Timbers games as a place to pick up girls, they should change ad firms.

I think the Portland crowd is a little smarter than that.

Yes, that's why these girls' breasts aren't hanging out.

Remember, marketing reflects what the manufacturer thinks of the demographic.

Truth in advertising would be a TFC ad with shirtless guys queuing to piss at half time. Fortunately marketing doesn't work that way.

I like the one with the kids holding axes. It could make a good slasher-horror film to have these little kids possessed and butchering people with axes.

They do like their soccer out there. I was chatting with a client in Portland yesterday and mentioned the Timbers and he went off on a 10 minute discussion about Portland soccer. Completely caught me off guard...

Agreed on all 5 accounts (corny, shame, still better than Van city, looks like a dating ad, should change direction).

Well maybe not on the Van city one. As bad as that ad was I still knew what they were advertising.

I like it. I'm sure local people are talking about it. You roll out other more event specific ads later toward the beginning of the season.

Quite the opinion from a few pictures of billboards that actually show little of the city. Not sure of the need to knock other cities, especially considering the natural beauty of ours...

^ agreed jon. dangerred, have you heard ANY opinions on portland as a city from anyone whatsoever? i havent heard a single bad thing about it. cultured, nice people, welcoming......i have a friends out there and am, for one, looking forward to getting out there to see our boys win on the left coast.

completely disagree ...

they are using locals to market to locals ... great marketing campaign

these ads are nailing the demographic of Portland and letting the rest of Portland know that Timbers fans are just like you

and considering ads include pictures of dudes and families they are clearly not marketing it as a place to pick up girls

MartinUtd

Striking images with attractive 20's somethings who aren't thought of as being the typical soccer fans, yet they're members of a supporters group. I'll take that over the "family day out" ad campaigns run by other teams.

Actually Portland is a really cool city, lots of great pubs and period buildings nearby the PGE Stadium, I checked out the stadium and it is going to be a intimate venue as it was converted from a baseball stadium. One end of the field is the side of a building (kind of odd upon initial visit) which I am sure they will paint the Timbers logo on. The place almost looks too small. Should be rocking when Vancouver, Seattle and maybe LA visit, I almost fancy checking TFC out when they come there as my sister-in-law resides in the city. Mental note sync up future visits.

Parkdale

those are pretty decent adds.

there's a lot of history in the name 'Timbers' (the whole area was founded on logging) so it's a good way to tie in Civic pride with their football team.

I think they're well done.

I saw a dirtbike event inside a bullring in spain, and the 'ultras' bring chainsaws (blades detached) and rev the engines. It sounds like 1000 dirtbikes crossed with a swarm of killer bees, and it's pretty awesome.

I agree that there is no need to knock Portland but I'm not sure of the need to knock our city either.

I have a friend from Chicago who's been all over and here many times, and when I told him once that I thought Toronto and Chicago had a lot in common he said "you've never been to Portland. Toronto could be it's twin city in terms of vibe". Haven't been to Portland so I have no idea if that's true.
