with a competent GM and coach, we have the potential to defuck 4 years of our roster. here's a by the numbers breakdown of what we could be looking at for the clubs fifth season:

$2,677,500: next years salary cap. under the collective bargaining agreement between MLS and their players, it's going to go up 5% every year until the deal expires in 2014. where does that leave us?

$1,705,592: TFC's current salary based off of 2010's numbers for a 20 man squad, not including the new contract signed with nathan sturgis (details undisclosed as per club policy). under the collective bargaining agreement, academy signings do not count against cap (lindsay/henry)

$971,908: leftover salary including obligations and buyouts (gerba), but not including potential re-signings (attakora/frei)

64% of the maximum allowed salary cap used on 20 players

$1,281,592: the current salary of our starting 11 (based off of who played most on average).

47%: the percentage of the salary cap they account for.

$1,346,908: is the new leftover should dero be made a designated player (now known as DPero) and not count against our salary cap.

$1,446,908: with DPero and fuad ibrahim gone (19 man roster)

$1,636,908: with DPero, fuad ibrahim gone and garcia retiring (18 man roster).

39% of the maximum allowed salary cap used if this happens

So the 1.6 is leftover cap space? And I believe its a 24 man roster, which means that the 1.6 is left for 6 players.

That puts us in a really good place. We can sign some really good players with that money. 260k per player will bring some pretty decent players to the club.

MLS club rosters for 2011 will expand from 26 to 30 with four spots designated for players 24 and under.

If im not mistaken those 6 spots are reserved for homegrown players and do not count against the cap

^ Don't think they have to be homegrown. I think Kosic, Gomez, and maybe even Sanyang can fall under this category?

dunno, think ya gotta be academy grads. So lindsay etc (and maybe even Nana) would qualify.

How come the 18 man roster costs more than the 19 man roster?

I believe thats free cap space, not the cost.

When does Garcia's contract expire? The fact that garcia has yet to be waved scares me. Yea, we can just let his contract expire, but we might as well just announce that we are waiving him, and let him go look for another team.

im certain we will renegotiate Ibby's contract, id debate kocic being homegrown as he was never witht he academy however i think gomez and sanyang might pass

Nuvinho

I don't think its only for homegrown players

After the first 24 players, there will be six spots open to players who are under 24, with no cap hit.

I keep an updated spreadsheet every year. Just update the salaries as they become available from the MLS players site.

Gotta admit i cant find it yet but id be amazed if it applied to just anyone under the age of 24, pretty sure this is to encourage teams to develop players rather than scout and find or pay them

MLS rosters can contain 20 "senior" spots and six "protected" slots that do not count against the $2.55 million salary cap. "Protected" players would include those signed in the league's "Generation adidas" developmental program and up to four players making $40,000, the minimum salary in 2010.
The two new slots are for players registered for at least a year in their club's youth program who either make $31,250 or have a "Generation adidas" contract.

all increases are speculation. Chadd Barrett's salary of $300K plus was based on comments on this board.

alright, cool thanks. i was more interested in the length of their contracts in addition to their signings. although i do disagree with barrett being at 300k. with santos' production and given his past injuries, i'd be surprised if he asks for, or expects a better contract.

also, i've only seen proof that sanyang is covered under academy protection (along with henry/lindsay). gomez has yet to be confirmed (although he did come up here with sanyang) while kocic was with DC before us (aka: he didn't come out of our academy). so if they're under protection from the cap cause they make $40k (league min), i'd assume anything more and they'd be added on to the cap.

The $300K figure was in the expansion draft thread. People suggested that the structure of Barrett's deal is that he will get over $300K this year.

The only 3 contracts I don't know about since they are out of contract this year were Nana, Gargan, and Cann.

That was Ibby's GA contract.

MLS is very tight on letting us know which player's contract is up. Maybe tomorrow at 5pm when the lists of players who aren't being renewed comes out we'll have more clarification.

I haven't followed Peterson before TFC, but I wonder what he did to get 125K.. usually that's the kind of salary number a solid US veteran player gets.

he did have a GA contract, so I wonder if it's a legacy from that... they lured him out of college early. but he would have had a new contract since then.

generation adidas contracts have GA pay a certain ammount of the wage so that these playes can make more than $40k. that's the only reason why he's being paid that much i believe. i also have no idea why they do that. i wanna know what's going on with contracts. fucking club policy.

allo money doesn't count towards anything sides money in our pockets.

I remember at the MLS townhall, they said they would like to start disclosing each club's allocation money, but as of now, we don't have a clue how much TFC has. MLS may even of given TFC money for the unfortunate retiring of Zac Herold. Remember, MLS makes up the rules as they go along.

ibby and garcia just got released (if ibby gets resigned, it'll be for a lot less).

Garcia Nick D $190,000.00
Ibrahim Fuad F $100,000.00

we now have $290,000 in extra cap space.
