Interesting signing, that's for sure. Altidore didn't do much in Europe, but if he can get back to playing like his first MLS stint, then this is a great move.

That is not a given, however.

He just scored 2 goals last week. Why would he leave? This is story is absurd

Shit like this scares me. I see what a newcomer is doing and then I look at our gongshow. It's hard to be confident, to say the least.

Hopefully Klinsmann has some good ideas, and fast.

Story? This is from Altidore's verified twitter account. Unless he's lying to the public about where he's signed, I'd say you're closer to absurd than he is.

WTF? NO FUCKING WAY this story is true. If this story is true I am fucking completely shocked. There is just no way a U.S international who's still young enough to make a career in Europe has signed with Vancouver, a Canadian city at that. IF this is true, you can throw the "players just don't want to play outside of L.A or NY bullshit out the window".

It's also mentioned on MLS site - although in a very vague manner.

EDIT: Sorry, believe they are referring to DeMerit.

And didn't he congratulate DeMerit on signing with Vancover yesterday? It's almost as if they have a plan and are carrying it out. Shit.

lets not put the cart before the horse, it is definitely a coupes but hes still young and relatively unproven overseas, although of high quality and we know he will do well here, also he knows he will raise his stock here, prob making big money, hes also from north american so he knows what to expect, might not have the same situation with foreign players.

Definitely a big signing if true.

I'm shocked and think this is a great move but have a question.

He isn't a free agent and MLS has a policy on no transfer fees. Add to that the transfer window isn't open in Europe.

Is there any other sources confirming this?

Because the twitter feed is confusing: http://twitter.com/JozyAltidore17

It could be construed as him simply congratulating DeMerrit. Not actually signing himself.

He didn't sign, but I would have more faith in Vancouver's FO pulling off something like this than ours.

Seemed too good to be true. Glad it isnt the case. The Demerit signing is massive for them. He gives them instant credibility on the backline.

Edit: Looks like they have Rochat too, seems like they are building the team right.

This has nothing to do with how "well informed" anyone is, and everything to do with one guy misreading a twitter feed, and then a handful of other people commenting on it without verifying what the original poster wrote.

I don't even understand what this means in the context of this thread. Who are congratulating themselves for anything?

People prematurely weighed in on a misread twitter feed, then essentially said "woops my bad" when we realized they hadn't signed Altidore. What does that have to do with being self-congratulatory?

No it is absurd. If you're a young player for Villarreal, why would even consider going back to MLS this early? He would probably do a loan in Europe first. MLS would probably be a last resort.

My turn to apologize. As you'll see above, I totally misread his twitter account, setting off this thread of fail. You were right and I was clearly very wrong.

Can I still hope we sign Altidore one day? :o
