Who's great idea was it to put both Supporter sections in the North END!!!

Dont know if it has been chatted about..but according to the seating plan on ticketmaster...this is the way its set up... A Columbus VS RED BULL final could draw the biggest away support...could it get nasty?

I doubt it would get nasty, if only because they would know to line security between them.

If the KKKrew are in, better watch out for these guys:

By the way, the North End is obvious as a choice, because there were no season tickets there this last year. All of the seats are walk-up.

What I heard from my Tix agent is that NYRB and LA supporter groups want the north end how this works I don't know, However either team would have to advance.

My nightmare final- Columbus / Dallas. I'd pass out screaming 'douchebag' for every minute of a game.

Gotta admit... it looks like another league during the playoffs. I'm pretty sure we'd get thumped and dumped in the first round easily... but I'd still prefer that than being irrelevent.

Teams like LA if to make it to the final probably would be like to bring 100 fans...in fact that goes for most MLS teams. Only teams that might have a decent travelling number over 500 or so is Chicago or MAYBE columbus.

Looking at the remaining teams, I think only LA, Seattle or Columbus would bring a significant away support to the MLS Cup. And even than it may only number in the 50-100 range.

Really? How many Crew fans were at the last game? Plus a Sunday 8:30pm start makes it hard for some people to decide essentially last minute to travel to the final.

that was an essentially meaningless game right before the playoffs, i can understand why only a few showed up.

this would be a title game, far different.

The thing you have to take into account for travelling fans is this...

http://www.lipmantimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/passport.jpg

Only around 25-30% of Americans have them

25-30% of america = the population of Canada x3

Is that relevant here? I just thought the statistic was a good one.

Not something you can get on the spur of the moment. That may knock out some/most supporters who find their team in the final and decide they want to go. I hadn't thought about this previously.

^I have zero data to support this, but wouldn't you expect that soccer supporters are much likelier than average Americans to have passports?

North American soccer people that I've met, rich or poor, are pretty well traveled.

You'd think, but I still know people around here that don't freaking have them. They are over $100 and if you live in a dump nowhere near a foreign border, like say Columbus, who don't need them, it's hard to justify the cost. Plus, like Detroit said, they are not a real quick turn around on obtaining them

I'm still thinking its a Dallas San Jose final, and if so an away fan section won't be an issue....they could split one of those field side tables between them.

LOL!!!!!!!! Didn't you see the 4 Colorado fans in the upper section yesterday? They would need at least one field table for themsleves.

Regardless of which teams make it to the cup, I would expect A FEW more travelling supporters than we've seen at many of the playoff games. The MLS Cup is simply a bigger deal, if your team has made it all the way to the final. Plus I bet the team & the league will market the crap out of it in those cities: free or cheap Cup tickets, some family & friends of the teams, plus travel package discounts arranged via Expedia or something like that. They'll try to get a block of fans at least big enough to be able to do some close-up shots for the TV...

However, looking at the remaining teams, I can't imagine it being more than 200 or 300 people per team - at best. Pretty insignificant in a 22,000-seat stadium, in terms of ticket demand/values and overall attendance.

Keep in mind the CDN dollar is almost at parity, if not will be by the cup date. Its not so much of a deal as it used to be to travel North, and I have a few American friends who remind me of this regularly. Plus, the cup is before xmas. Its a hard to justify the cost unless you're die-hard at this/that time of year. All IMHO of course

the weekend before US Thanksgiving at that.

Now there is no chance of a Henry vs Beckham final (how did MLS allow THAT to happen?), my guess is that MLS would want Seattle to make the final as they'd likely bring decent numbers.

Imagine LA vs Dallas...in Toronto...in November..in a friggin blizzard!
LMFAO!

Well Canada population - 34 million
USA Population - 310 million

So if 25-30% of americans have passports that means about 80-90 million Americans have a passport. Which is much bigger then are whole population. Now if the number of people is spread even from City to City then say Columbus a city of 754,000 25-30% of that would be about 200,000 - 230,000 people in the city of Columbus would have a passport.

.So even with 25-30% only having passports its not really an issue. The question is out of the few fans that would even consider travelling for an away game how many of them have passports?

San Jose brought 75 to NY on a Thursday evening, per the Wall Street Journal.

You'll see at least double that in Toronto if the Quakes make the final. You'll see me regardless. Got my passport in order.
