The only guy who fits the bill in my opinion is Roque Santa Cruz. He's the only striker/midfielder that is on his way down. Let's be realistic, you aren't going to get an Alexi Sanchez or Diego Forlan coming to TFC. Alot of the guys mentioned are at the height of their career and are getting attention from the biggest clubs in the world.

Roque seems like the only realistic bet. We'd have to offer him a shit load of money though to pry him from staying in the EPL.

Santa Cruz says he wants to play in La Liga, maybe after hes spent a few years there but i dont see it happening quite yet regardless of the money offered. He'd be amazing to have here tho.

I realize alot of these players would be hard to sign as for TORRES...It would be nice to have him play for TFC.

This one is a little more realistic, but still might be a bit of a stretch: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11800_6484329,00.html

From his Wiki page "He is in talks for come-back to Partizan Belgrade, participant of this year Champions league competition and three years in a row Serbian champions."

We should sign the geezer on the right to play midfield for us...give him JDG type money...probably plays better.

TFC should take a look at serbian striker mateja kezman (i have made a thread about this before).... he has been released from paris st germain this week... i also read that he has had contact with a club within the MLS on a serbian football site.... he also said he would be intrested in playing in the leauge seeing how its attracting big name players..... and seeing how he was released from his contract TFC wouldnt have to pay any transfer fees....

lots of talk of Celtic going after Santa Cruz in Jan

I don't see why people see Santa Cruz as particularly reasonable. Surely he can get better than MLS DP money in Europe still, and he's not that old. The only reason would be his fitness, and we don't need an injury prone multimillionaire missing half the season. Celtic's size of squad can afford that risk. We can't.

Ditto with Owen. As a Liverpool fan, his decision to leave still really hurts. I'm not bitter towards him, as it was Real Madrid and he was frustrated for some good reasons (plus, despite what people seem to remember, he did really well there, they just didn't play him). But he's hobbled constantly. I wouldn't sign Jimmy Bullard, either, and some folk over there still covet him.

Is there anyone with TFC now who has the authority to sign players?

This is a good gamble. He had a couple of poor seasons, but at two leagues above MLS -- Eredivisie and Turkey -- he was a 1-in-2 goalscorer. Good finisher, great wheels. I remember him at PSV the first time around.

A lot would depend on his current fitness as he's been a backup this year and will be 32 next year. But his productivity and professionalism were well above the Mista level (most of the time) and while I wouldn't compare him in leadership to Blaise Nkufu, we might get as many goals out of him.

Rumor has it he was spotting in Yorkville siting next to Luis Figo (who has been there for three years).
