lots of news today. Thanks, D'.

Good news with woman's football. Morace is doing a great job.

Klinsmann "rumours???" I wonder what that means? Either:

(1) They are preparing for an announcement of his hiring at their own time, and are being coy until then.

(2) The Klinsmann deal fell through, and they are preparing us for that.

Most likely it's #1, but I worry a bit about #2.

To show what big news Klinsmann being a potential consultant is, here is Klinsmann and TFC in the Indonesian version of goal:

Seriously? There is a gender/racial grade? To me, that's rascist. People should not lose out on a job, because the company needs more women, or monorities. I don't care if the person is black, white, Mexican, Chinese or what. If he/she the best candidate, hire him/her. Don't hire someone because of their ethnicity. There shouldn't be a grading system to push people into hiring minorities.

It's been around for a long long time now in corporations. It is all part of the decision making process unfortunately. Companies feel that if they don't have some rules like that the work environment then it would end up with all of the same whether it is the same race or gender if the hiring manager decided to play favourites so it can work both ways. If you are an honest manager it sucks to have to take the lesser skilled person because of crap like that. My father retired early from his job because of this. He was no longer able to hire and bring in the best by skills alone but he was still being rated on the performance of his team so he said screw it because he had enough years in. Slippery slope this stuff.

I say I hope for #1 but am worried more than a bit it is #2. The back peddling being done in the TFC blog would not be happening if #1 I think. I bet they haven't put pen to paper on the Klinsmann thing and are worried about more bad press and bashing from fans if it doesn't go through. They just want remind us that they didn't say anything if this thing doesn't work out.

Or, they were ready to sign a deal with Soccer Solutions that didn't specify the involvement of Klinsmann, saw the reaction from fans and need to renegotiate before finalizing.

The problem is often determing the "best" candidate when so many people have the same qualifications. Especially now when hundreds of people apply for every job.

I’m glad to see people agreeing. I was recently asked by my supervisor to do some hiring for positions he has. Right from the outset I told him I intended to disregard the employment equity requirement because what that tells me is that if you have two people who are identically the same, you have to make a final selection based on gender or race? That’s wrong to me and I told him I wouldn’t do it – I’ll find some other tie-breaker to make a decision on candidates and my supervisor was in agreement as well. And as it turns out, of the 6 candidates who were successfully hired, the top 4 were visible minorities and the top 3 were women. They don’t need help – they were hired because they were the most competent for the job.

Giving out “grades” for ethnic/gender diversity is well-intentioned in that it can highlight organizations which may have discriminatory practices but it can also return false positives. In other words, there are places where there might be very few women or visible minorities because things just happened that way. We have a division in our workplace where there are no women, because the type of work done there does not interest them. Someone with no knowledge might look at it and raise a flag (Ah-ha! They’re sexist over there!) where there is no issue. But the primary problem is that it forces managers to hire sub-par people and as soon as you start doing that for whatever reason, there’s a problem and that’s why this kind of policy should be repealed.

My thought on the rumours coming out, are that klinsmann's people leaked it so that now they can go to Anselmi and say, "have you checked out the news and the internet? Your fans really want us, now sign us this giant check."

@lucky strike.

It does have good factors in it, but it is still very very flawed. If a company doesn't hire enough black people, they should not get reprimanded. There may be numerous causes that have made that so. I can see how it might have been useful 'back in the day' but I don't think it's useful now.

Another thing I really hate, is having two job standards. Firefighters for example. Men have to do x number go pushups, carry x lbs, ect. Women have to do less of everything.

I don't know about you, but if I'm in a burning building, I dont care who takes my uncious ass out of there, but don't put my life at risk by lowering the standards for women. Again, the job should go to the most qualified. Have 1 set of standards, and whoever meets that should get the job.

This world nowadays has gotten so paranoid of hate, rasicm and sexism, that it's trying to prevent them all, with more rascism, and sexism

I don't believe that is the case in Toronto. My understanding is they all candidates have to pass the CPAT test and have the same standards.

It was not easy to win this match in a stadium full of support and enthusiasm for the home team," said Canadian coach Carolina Morace. "I think we prepared very well as a team and we attacked Mexico. The players were fantastic."

Klinsmann will assess in Toronto, the entire professional department up to the players and help in the search for a new leadership. Currently, there are a Interim coach and Manager. Others in the team is one of the previously active for Hannover 96 Julian de Guzman.

Montero gets his green card so will no longer count as an international

Yesterday, 12:39 pm ET

Renton, WA (Sports Network) - Seattle Sounders FC and Colombia forward Fredy Montero received his U.S. Green Card, granting him permanent resident status in the United States, the club announced Monday.

Montero's green card has an impact on Seattle's Roster, because he will not be counted as an international player, opening a spot for the Sounders to sign an additional international player.

With Montero no longer counting as an international player, Alvaro Fernandez, Leo Gonzalez, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Miguel Montano, Blaise Nkufo, Sanna Nyassi and Steve Zakuani are Seattle's remaining international players.

"Fredy has worked extremely hard on learning English and becoming part of our community. He is very deserving and we would like to congratulate Fredy on earning his Green Card," said Adrian Hanauer, Sounders FC Owner and GM. "This also helps the club, providing us greater flexibility as we build our roster for 2011 and beyond."

Seattle plays the L.A. Galaxy in the second match of their Western Conference semifinal playoff series Sunday. L.A. won the first leg, 1-0, in Seattle.

True, but I can't imagine that a lot of foreign MLS players become naturalized Americans or Canadians.
