Really don't see much of a change from this season. Do you want change or move 2 points closer to the playoffs?

Change means CHANGE.

I think the quotes from CP story on sportsnet.ca tell an interesting story about the difference in attitude between Attakora and JDG, "TFC anticipating change after rough season (http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/2010/10/26/tfc_report/)

Nana Attakora;

"The coaches tried their best to get our minds back on track but it just wasn't there. We can't really blame coaches, problems within in the change room, it comes down to individuals -- we didn't get our act our together."

Julian Deguzman;

"That's one thing we lacked on this squad, that we have depth with the travelling and the games. I don't think MLSE or us expected to have 42 games in seven months. Everyone was more focused on the playoff goal and I think that's something we probably could have accomplished if we weren't involved in the Champions League."

Attakora hold the players accountable for performance on the field and JDG points the finger at management.

http://www.thestar.com/business/article/881496--cibc-bmo-battle-for-soccer-supremacy

Could it be that CIBC will be announcing a formal sponsorship with the Impact?

On that note, has anyone noticed the huge difference between Canadian MLS club shirt sponsors and most of the ones they have in the states?

Think about it. Toronto FC gets Canada's 4th largest bank and Vancouver gets our largest telecommunications provider.

Compare that to Real Salt Lake and their sponsor XanGo (currently under investigation by the FDA for making false claims of medical benefits); or Houston and their sponsor Amigo Energy (a small regional 3rd party electrical retailer); or New England which has NO shirt sponsor!

Because I would prefer we actually make the playoffs next season I will try to keep our roster from being filled with green academy newbies plus without some real change in the dressing room & on the pitch, we go nowhere. With that said, here goes:

DeRo----New DP Signing-----Lindsay
---Santos----New Signing---

Bench:

Barrett (maybe & only if we have cap space)

I've long noticed that too. Although the U.S. nortwest teams have done pretty good for themselves. Seattle has Microsoft's Xbox as their shirt sponsor, while Portland managed to land Alaska Airlines, a major aircarrier in that region, for theirs. Perhaps it has more to do with how much cache the teams carry in their markets. And New England isn't the only MLS team without a shirt sponsor.

New England has not been forward-thinking the past few years which is reflected in it's fall from it's position as a top team in the league. Results on the pitch sometimes mirror the environment in the boardroom. Look at TFC, while successful from a financial point of view, a dysfunctional FO has led to a poor showing on the field.

New England will have to realize at some point this isn't a 10 year old league anymore and they have to step up and start acting less amateur in all aspects of their operation. Everyone else is and they're leaving them behind.

I wish TFC were smart enough to capitalize on New England's cheap ways and scoop Nicol away from them like Seattle did to Schmid.

For sure, Colorado doesn't have a shirt sponsor either and I think there are a few more.

Obviously Xbox is a big coup for Seattle, though I didn't know about Portland's sponsor. Alaska may be a regional carrier, but like you said, they are pretty big nonetheless.

You know what? I've always had that sort of vibe as well. At one time they were definitely one of the top dogs of the league but have grown somewhat complacent over the past few years. According to a few quotes I've seen on their supporter message boards, they're not happy with the fact that they still don't have a shirt sponsor.

New England is a throwback to the early days of MLS. Back when the league was on shaky ground, the penny-pinching ways of owners such as Kraft were necessary for the survival of MLS.

The financial landscape in MLS has changed considerably in only a few short years. The frugal nature of Kraft is now a hindrance to progress in this sport. New England's FO looks more and more Mickey Mouse every year, and it shows on multiple fronts.

I can't criticize them for taking their time. I just hope they have the right consultants.

Colorado's jersey is great, no sponsor but no big obnoxious logo either, it's by far my favourite in MLS. Hopefully they don't change it. I see it a sign of class rather than unprofessionalism.

That looks about right to me, though I'd only have Lindsay pencilled in as he's young and bound to have his ups and downs next year. Because of that, and depending on his price, I'd take peterson back as depth, but i don't think I'd go above 60-80 k for him. I'd also take gargan in the squad for depth, he's versatile and has a good attitude.
Ideally the new signing up front would be another new dp signing as well. Let de ro get the max non dp.

I love how people keep cutting Barrett. You realize we'd still be hit with his cap hit because he's on a guaranteed contract right? Whether he's on the team or not, we're paying for his salary. He might as well be here.

The only way you can dump Barrett without a cap hit is if you can move him to another team (probably Portland) and get them to take on his full cap hit.

The article says, "MLSE is negotiating with a consultant group to help conduct a talent search."

Just pay them, you have the money, everyone here tells me you're not cheap.

And it really looks like they aren't planning to change the structure of TFC at all, the new GM will still have to answer to someone at MLSE (Anselmi?) who will then report to the board (so, they still won't treat TFC the way they now treat the Leafs). So unless the new GM is someone with a long track record of success who gets a long-term, big money contract, it'll be the same as it was, some inexperienced guy worried about losing his job everyday making poor, short-term decisions to try and please someone who doesn't know the sport and is, "still learning."

No wonder they haven't ruled out the guys already here, not many others are going to want the job under these circumstances.

really good article on RSL coach Jason Kreis.

coach really really focussed on hard work, got rid of a lot of more well known players to bring in lesser known but hard working players, and really struggled to start out.

we'd have fired him long before he had a chance to win.

for me the most interesting thing to come out of yesterday's media sessions was Brennan talking about the tactical switch the club made under Daso when Preki was fired and how he thinks that's the right approach to take moving forward.

(JB's comments are at the very end of my piece)
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2010/10/27/sp-tfc-stability.html

If rest of management concurs that's the right approach, they'll need to find a coach who preaches the same style as Daso.
