Just got it in my email:
http://2012tfckit.mlsecontests.com/#page=home

Hey RAVI,

We've created something really special that we'd like you to check out.

Starting today, we're launching the Supporters' Kit Design contest. Knowing how much you love this club, we teamed up with adidas over the summer to come up with a way to give you the chance to influence the team's kit!

We're giving you the creative reigns to design our away Kit for the 2012 season, which will be known as the Supporters' Kit. You can design the shirt, shorts and socks that the boys will wear. We're the first sports team to launch anything like this, so here's your chance to help us make history.

You can submit your designs until Monday, November 22, and then the voting stage begins. A judging panel at Toronto FC will select the top 5 kits, and starting Friday, November 26, you can vote for your favourite. The Grand Prize winner will be announced at the 2011 Home Opener, and will receive the first official prototype of their kit signed by the entire Toronto FC squad.

Ready to get started? Click here (http://click.mlsefanmail.com/?qs=2bcbcdf5a93b0f01a2064453c5d3c06a9a47c4496ab364 ea69a169613637649b) to design a jersey.

Need some inspiration or someone to teach you how to create it? Click here (http://click.mlsefanmail.com/?qs=2bcbcdf5a93b0f012ba8354750e9e5919beae11ffc0fe1 59fb8b1df75522856b) to let Dan Gargan walk you through it.

Thank you for helping us build this club - we can't wait to see what you can come up with.

Have fun!

How are the stands going to be a sea of red if the kits are white on the front and back? Am I missing something or is white the only colour to choose from? How would that work for home and away? Assume no white coloured teams will be coming to town.

I totally understand where the cynicism is coming from guys but it also seems like no matter what they try to do it's condemned. Don't get me wrong here, as a guy who did not renew my seasons tickets I am certainly no fan of MLSE but perhaps they are just trying for ways to make up to the supporters. They could go ahead and design the shirt themselves or they could try to get input from the fans so that they might actually like the shirt. Just saying.
Maybe I'm getting soft too.

so it seems that this kit will be the new away kit. so the current white kit was only out for 1 season?

seems a bit money grabbing to me.

arnt we supposed to have a new home shirt next yr as well?

so we might have a new home and away. thats 3 home shirts in 5 yrs 2 different grey shirts...2 different white shirts and 2 pink shirts.

9 shirts in 5 yrs. Hmmmm

All they've done is offer us a colouring book contest.

All I remember was buying one at National Sports in year two. The official kits with the BMO logo were over $100, but the "Toronto FC" ones were a fraction of the price.

Perhaps they were just extra stock from the first year, but I recall them being referred to as "supporter's kits" on more than one occasion.

Leave everything as is (white), remove all crests + markings and make the socks black.

This default kit along with most common socks color will keep manufacturing costs to bare minimum.

Fun for a few minutes.

I put a design in for the hell of it, but I don't really care what it looks like. All white would be cool.

We should make the design as similar to the current design as possible, so people won't feel the urge to buy a new kit.

Still trying to figure this out myself.

They're calling it that to hedge their bets, in case they hate it. If they love it, they can say it's a supporter-designed team kit. If they hate it, they can say it's the new third strip.

Either way, it's their way of trying to reengage the fans COMMERCIALLY. The obvious hope is that buy-in will get people to pick up merchandise, which they need, because people are boycotting.

A better move here? A polite "no more stunts for the foreseeable future" letter from Boris on behalf of the group, followed by no one taking part.

Or people could just not buy it.

It's an attempt to engage fans, even if it's with the ultimate goal of selling us stuff (as all fan engagement is). As with season tickets, the easiest way to send a message is to simply not buy one.

I think calling it a "stunt" is a little unfair. They aren't going to cease any and all promotional efforts for TFC until the team is getting on-field results.

I would never buy a new jersey. I never understood why people need to buy the new jersey every year or two. t

I bought mine in 2007. It's red, it has the TFC logo on it. That's all I need.

And with the way "retro" has come back in jersey designs, my 2007 will still be cool in 2020 ;)

On the one hand, it's pretty damn cool they're asking the supporters to design an away kit.

On the other, there's something intrinsically wrong with a supporter designing a kit only to have it sold back to them when it's actually manufactured.

When was the last time the leafs/jays/anyone ever gave you a single ounce of imput into the look of the product they want you to buy? I think this initiative is great.

As for the lack of design flexibility, I think they are covering their bases - Adidas will make them work with a certain template, so they can't just go back with a crazy design and expect adidas to make it.

- Scott

I'm so glad I bought one of those before the BMO logo got splashed all over the TFC shirts. I have retired mine now and had it signed on the front by Danny and Robbo (although Handball Henry very nearly scuppered my Robbo signing after the pink cows visit) and will add Jimmy next season, then plan to have it framed with some kind of plaque re "2007 inaugural season, capt and first player, co capt and first goal scorer and red card" (wording to be finessed!)

I'll always keep a relatively current TFC home shirt but those "TORONTO" ones are now irreplaceable...

I actually like my design and would be thrilled if it was picked!!

What's everyone complaining about?

When was the last time the leafs/jays/anyone ever gave you a single ounce of imput into the look of the product they want you to buy? I think this initiative is great.

As for the lack of design flexibility, I think they are covering their bases - Adidas will make them work with a certain template, so they can't just go back with a crazy design and expect adidas to make it.

This has me excited for the 2011 Scarf contest!

Cmon, this isnt input, its a prize draw disguised as a digital colouring contest.

The winner isnt going to be judged on creativity and style, its going to be a draw between whoever's design matches their pre-selected ones. the choices are so finite, every entry is going to e duplicated by someone else if enough people bother.

I only condemn this project because they have left no room for fans to actually "design" anything.
All they've done is offer us a colouring book contest.

I love coloring books!! Screw the lines :p

For the record,

TFC, as most of MLS, has always used the same template for both jerseys so it isn't too far of a stretch to assume you could use mostly red in that template and find out 11-12 kit.

I actually came up with one I quite like. The lack of modifications to the shorts is annoying though, and whats with not being able to use solid black socks? 3 adidas logos aren't enough?

All of that is just trimming.
It's like picking the ribbon on your present, but having no choice in wrapping paper.
Yeah, but that ribbon is going to be worn by the club in a match and who knows, it may become a standard 3rd kit.

The funny thing this that next years jersies are already set. They have been set for at least 3 months already. Most stores have already done there booking with Adidas for TFC product for 2011- 2012. It is done normally 9 months in advance. This is merely lip service to the fans. I knwo the third kit will be all black I have seen the renderings already.

I will bet anyone that an all black kit similar to the one AC Milan is wearing now, is what will be selected.

I have only seen the renderings no actual jersies. The reason they are doing this now is ADIDAS clients book their orders 9-12 months in advance. So they (Adidas) need to be able to show their clients what they will be buying

I'm not a fan of bringing more black into the uniform.

For one, it makes us look like DC. And 2, how unoriginal is it that we have now gone to all white kits/all black kits.

What's wrong with the Dark grey? It's one of the club colours and it looks great (the light grey, not so much).

I know nobody is going to approve of blue, but what I have wanted since season one is basically this design (i.e. plastering the city flag on the jersey)....

http://www.soccernucleus.com/ProductImages/inter_milan_away_08/inter_away_subside.jpg

With the Toronto city flag....

http://thefourcornersclassroom.wikispaces.com/file/view/800px-Toronto_Flag.svg.png/31636809/800px-Toronto_Flag.svg.png

Just a blue kit with the white T/City Hall logo going up the front off centre like the flag. Ive always thought that would be cool as shit!
Though im pretty sure blue would be an almost impossible sell to most of the 'supporters'.

Maybe the team could do it for some Toronto anniversary.

Wait, so pretty much the only option we have is to fill in the colours on the template provided?

That's lame!

It leaves no room for originality!

I was all up for doing this, but now I see no point at all.

Agreed.

I cant even make my glorious Toronto city flag shirt! :(

LAME!

The Leafs' new jersey is almost the exact jersey that fans had been asking for ever since the God awful, league wide RBK redesign.
They didnt hold a 'contest' like this, but its pretty clear they took tons of input from Leaf fans on the new unis.

You know what would be awesome? A Toronto Maple Leafs style third kit. I can hear the leaf fangasms already.

Got a call today from Kelli at TFC, turns out one of my kit designs is a finalist. Tried to remind myself what my designs look like, but the link to view and create a kit is currently closed. I think I tried creating 2 or 3 kits. All of my designs had a red cross on the back of the neck, and were from what I recall mostly black and white. I tried to blend in the Adidas logos as much as possible too. Actually surprised they would choose mine because I did try to hide those logos. Anyhow, I'm excited and hope that I can get some votes from all my fellow RPB's. The name attached to my design should be Jimmy S. and they told me voting starts tomorrow and runs till December 3rd.

I have a suspicion that they already had five 'finalists' picked out and that they were just waiting to match those up to whomever happened to submit them.

But maybe that's too suspicious.

Its not like there is an overwhelming amount of permutations. It wasnt exactly an expansive kit 'creator'.

i was going to create one, but with how limited we were with choices, the last thing i would want to do is create a variation of our home (red) or away (white) kits. how hard was it to make our third kit black without all of the crap on it?

I think I designed 2 or 3 for the hell of it. The one they chose was one of my middle designs. I think I got craftier at hiding the logos in later designs. What I like about the one they chose is the maple leaf behind the crest, the milan/St. George style cross on the back of the collar, and the fact that the Adidas logo on the shirt is almost the same colour as the jersey and harder to see (sort of like Englands Umbro kit). If only they chose a design in which the shorts and socks had the logo more blended in. I'm not crazy about big adverstisements and logos on kits. Unfortunately, the template is all we had to work with. I still like what I did with my design. I told myself last night that I'd vote for someone elses design if I thought it was better. Nothing there seems better to me. Maybe, in the future they will allow us to be even more creative with the design. I would have loved to create a black kit. thanks for the votes.
