i think him and maicon would make a great partnership up front
, drop a few of our dead weight players, make a few more good trades within the league and i think we would be in a better position than we have ever been

no thanks, feel like he'd be one more in a line of unsuccessful DPS at TFC. Especially as we dont have a team to work with him yet (its going to be rebuilt), hes not getting younger and NE is supposed to be a suitor.

absolutely not...he has regressed the past 3 years, he is only getting older and he would want DP money...if you give out DP money, you have to get a guy who still can prove he is a consistent (injury free (ala Mista)) scorer...nuff said

comparing nuno gomes to mista is ridiculous

i see the comparison being fair

comparing nuno gomes to mista is ridiculous

Oh I dunno, on a talent basis it's not far off. Mista spent his entire career in La Liga. He had at least one major, succesful season (not much, but much more than most achieve in their career.)

Comparatively, Nuno Gomes' entire career save a couple of seasons in Fiorentina (where he didn't exactly light it up) has been spent in the Portugese league.

On the mental side, however, I'd agree with you. Mista seems unusable no matter where he is.

He wasn't injured last season. He just wasn't used as often. That's why he's "regressed" over the last three seasons. It has more to do with the emergence of the Oscar Cardozo as the principal striker for Benfica. As a result Nuno Gomes isn't needed as often.

Much like a lot of players on TFC, he wouldn't be a good fit. As someone alluded to, TFC doesn't have the team in place to help him score goals. Age really isn't as big as a factor than not having any playmakers on the team.

When looking at a DP, you have to look at a) does he fit in the MLS style of play and b) does fit the team that TFC has or is trying to create?

A lot of it will depend on the coach.

Guys like Schelotto, Blanco, Beckham, Angel et al have proven that age isn't as big a factor in MLS as style of play.

No more older players looking to retire here.....

Maybe. Might seem a little strange going after a player Mo was trying to sign after he's been run out of town.

I agree. I wouldn't go after Gomes though.

So you would've turned down Blaise Nkufo?

So you would've turned down Blaise Nkufo?

in general i agree, no more older players...with that being said, i would have made an exception for Nkufo because he is a big physical player who could slug it out in the MLS which is more the reason he has been successful

would you make an exception for Shitlicker who came to MLS at 35, small, skilled technical player who can pass and score goals?

Hating on a guy cause of age in MLS is ridiculous. Shit, Im hoping we sign JPA to go along with two DP wingers. I dont give a fuck, can they play for 2-3 years at a high level?

In the mean time, develop academy players like Lindsay who look like they can really play and when the older guys move out, have the youth ready.

Our Mista experience has kinda ruined any desire of mine to see Gomes here with TFC.

Sign him and sign Del Piero once he's done with Juve.

Thanks. :)

On the fence with this one. dropped from portuguese national team and from Benfica now. On his way down. But Angel was also on his way down when he left Villa and Colombia had no interest in playing him on the national team. Maybe worst a shot with a 1 year contract. Large Portuguese population that would gain interest in TFC because of this move.

really?

Yep, he's got the hump with Fergie and there's no clue where he's set his sights.

Imagine if some panicked sports conglomerate about to lose half their customers had offered him millions for an easy life away from the tabloids?

Well it would be amusing nonetheless....

C.Ronaldo

no thanks

MLS needs someone that goals balls out.

not that I like him at all, and he has an ego problem, but Simao would be a good fit for the league.

Or dare I say Deco.......(but MLS guys would probably push him around too much)

Carlos QUeiroz' record is hardly impressive, despite his resume and credentials. He obviously offers great tactical acumen, because Fergie relied on him, but there's no suggestion he can lead a team.

And for a thousand already stated fine reasons, no to Gomes, too.
