Dutch media reports say the Vancouver Whitecaps have hired former Sparta Rotterdam technical director Richard Grootscholten as the new head of their youth residency program.

This just pisses me off. Vancouver hiring someone from a Dutch soccer program to run their youth academy shows how much different their front office is compared to ours. Vancouver's emphasis is on soccer. Toronto's is on counting the money. It's not too much of a stretch to suggest the Whitecaps will make the MLS playoffs first before Toronto FC.

I would put money on this, though I wouldn't be happy about winning that bet. Sadly, Vancouver's FO gets it but ours does not. Vancouver has real soccer minds in key management positions, while all we have is the ever-clueless Anselmi. Oh, but we're okay because we're close to signing a "consultant."

There is mention of a certain Russian gentlemen in the another thread as a possible new owner. You never know if his initial interest in purchasing MLSE could be revived if perhaps he was giving an overwhelming amount of encouragement from the fans and supporters of three losing and terribly run franchises.

You never know I suppose.

Not only that, they have Lenarduzzi as Prez who has played for the national team and coached it, and they have Paul Barber as CEO, who was an executive with Tottenham until last year, and previously with the English National team. Who does TFC have? Tommy boy, who hasn't seen a soccer ball prior to 2006, to head up our team. MLSE executive lack experience in key areas its so funny its sad. But hey, they know how to count money so you are hired!!

Yeah, I can't remember how many times at the townhall yesterday anselmi and co said " we're learning".

can we not get someone in who already knows? someone who all their other projects that they're so proud of and determined to develop can actually learn something good from.

This is part of the problem. They got away with Mo for almost four years because people focused on him personally. Now even MLSE is admitting they shouldn't have left him, "out there on his own." But there was no pressure from people for a better front office. Every time it came up here people said it didn't matter, there were enough scouts, they spend plenty on the team - when in fact VAncouver is probably paying five or six times for it's front office what TFC did for four years.

I think the problem lies with Anselmi occupying a position which should be reserved for someone with real football knowledge. If the club hired real management types, Anselmi would be out of a job.

I was talking to Earl Cochrane about TFC's performance, Mo's mishaps, and if he thought 4 years of 'learning' under Mo was acceptible in their minds. Why it took so long to cut him loose. He didn't really have an answer, yet said they believed they were close. Just a few tweaks here or there is what they believed would turn things around. I said that proper managment should have figured that out sooner.

I then suggested to him that perhaps the problem was that the guy pulling the strings and signing paychecks (Anselmi) was a self confessed 'hockey guy' and knows nothing about football...that he was the wrong guy for the job. He said that Anselmi didn't make any of the decisions. Fair enough...but he was fully aware of the team's performance...again, he didn't have much of an answer.

He assured me that the new GM would be chosen by a group of consultants...

Yeah, the first one is quite good. I like this part:

Make no mistake; the lumps the team has taken will be beneficial long-term. Management will learn from its mistakes.

Exactly the same mistakes they made with their other two teams (hiring inexperienced management) and they'll solve them exactly the same way they did with their other two teams (hiring a consultant to find proper management).

How many jobs are there where you can make the same mistake three times?

They also have Tom Soehn, who's played in the MLS, been an assistant coach and manager in the MLS as their Director of Soccer Operations.

They really have all of their bases covered.

I was wondering why there was no name on it.

Looking at the comparisons to the Vancouver front office in this thread makes it look it "all went wrong" long before the contract extension.
