This article is a little depressing. It appears it will be months before this organization hires anyone significant. So most other MLS teams will have a head start on us in preparing for 2011.

And its further proof that the Preki/Mo firings were just a PR move before season ticket renewals went out.

The new regime needs to be in place by the end of this year. It has to happen or there will not be enough time for the new boys to do their job:picard:

The only hope is the possibility that we are waiting for the MLS season to end so we can grab a Nichol or Kinnear.

Ok, I'm just dreaming....

"It's just really getting the process started right now," said Anselmi. "We're talking to a handful of, I don't want to call them consultants, but people that will help us in the search, provide either contacts or points of view, that kind of thing.

I sure hope that Barry McLean/First Wave is not one of those "consultants."

Oldtimer once AGAIN provides the proper target.
How This fuck has avoided our full scrutiny and rage since 2007 is amazing to me.

Give him the $10,000 "football in the groin! football in thee groin!"

Ha ha, I was thinking the same thing. That line about "consultants" (why wouldn't he want to call them that?) is the key here. Why won't they say who they're consulting with? Who's this group of people who don't want to be called consultants who will be making the most important decision in the history of the team?

Every corporation hires an executive search team these days. There's no salary cap on consultants, why aren't they bragging about how much they're spending to find the right people to run the team?

It might even help with ticket renewals.

+1 on seeing through the MLSE bullshit

The funny thing is that it actually backfired for MLSE. Or at the very least didn't soothe the fanbase they way they hoped it would.

Generally fans are still mostly upset about the shitty way the team is run and having to pay more next year.

That's what raised the red flag for me.

Barry McLean and his ilk get their cut from the person they place. ML$E pays nothing. You couldn't call Barry a "consultant" because you're not paying him.

I think that their trust is misplaced, even if it isn't Barry himself, and doesn't give me comfort (if it is Barry, prepare for Mo II). You shouldn't go the cheap route here, or deal with the devil you know. The cleaning-out of the old ways needs to go all the way through this club.

It really seems like this is a tremendous missed opportunity for good publicity.

If they had given a lot of money to some recently retired, very well-respected guy with no personal stake in who gets hired, they could have made a big deal about finding the best possible people.

Now they soud like they're making another backroom deal with people whose names they don't even want known.

He gets some mixed reviews here based on print, which sometimes doesn't translate well, so here is an interview with Paul James on his thoughts on TFC and the state of the club

I share these same thoughts.....

..., so MLSE has a history of selecting consultants.
Raptors consultant was/is Wayne Embry as Senior Advisor, hence Bryan #1. Maple Leafs consultant was Gordon Kirke, hence Brian #2. But with TFC, MLSE consults with anonymous faceless "people" to fix a sinking ship. Supposedly the Bryan/Brians have credibility in their respective sports, however, the standings and results reflect otherwise. However I digress....

I recently had someone try and tell me that MLSE should recruit Dick Howard as their senior consultant. When I stopped laughing, I explained the humour. The recently dumped Johnston, in my opinion is a step up on Dick Howard. Dick Howard has contributed nothing to the Canadian soccer landscape - particularly so, since he was on several FIFA technical committees for several years. However, Dick being the type that he is , did nothing that could benefit other areas of the game, amateur or professional, locally, provincially, let alone nationally because there was no gain or reward for himself.

It's my belief that the man does nothing unless it enriches his own interests first and foremost, so you can see why I wouldn't want him involved in TFC. You can see why the CSA and to a lesser extent why the OSA are as poor as they are. Too many like minded "Dick Howard" types in senior positions of influence. The man has very little credibility, and of course when he takes a vacant “analyst” chair, his comments are overwhelmingly vanilla, like he’s talking to people who have no clue about football.

Me too. The lack of soccer IQ in this organisation is frightening. We can't afford to cheapen out when it comes to management, and we really can't afford to keep up this Barry McLean/First Wave BS. I vote 'No' to Mo 2.0.

Regardless of whether MLSE goes this route for its next GM, though, Tom Anselmi really should be canned. Anyone as clueless as Anselmi belongs on the same train that Mo and Preki are being shipped on out of town.

In the end it doesn't even matter.

His firing was at least one year too late.

The good news just keeps on coming.

So now Cochrane and Daso will do the protected list for the expansion draft.

Kind of like how Preki got to dump Cronin two months before getting canned.

Unless of course Cochrane and Daso are staying...

I don't know which is worse.

Great.

Cochrane alluded to that in his TFC chat yesterday. It was highly disturbing that Cochrane was actually going to be making a significant roster decision like the expansion draft. Thankfully, there is limited room for him to screw up, but it's still there. TFC does not have much choice though, we don't have a GM and with contract issues, we may not have one until 2011. In which case, we are already looking down the barrell of a team and a GM under the gun before the season even starts.

Sound familiar?

Okay, if I'm not mistaken, and please, do correct me if I'm wrong, the expansion draft means you select 11 players to protect, and DP's/GA's are exempt.

That means we don't need to protect Frei, Ibrahim, De Guzman, and Mista.
Great, so 11.

Everyone else is excess to requirements, and, let's face it, Vancouver's gunna want OBW or Gala, to bolster Canadian talent. I say, let um have um.
