Hahaha now Pookie is even in the press!! From the Dan Gargan article

Dan Gargan is a character. Actually, he’s several.
There’s the locker-room prankster, the guy who dons a Burger King mask to surreptitiously face-wash teammates with shaving cream.
There’s the cartoon guy in a trio of animated shorts on YouTube who belittles New York Red Bulls star Thierry Henry.

The Sandor article quotes Robbie Burns. The whole context of that quote is really appropriate to TFC's season:

In Scots dialect:

The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!
In English translation:

The best laid schemes of mice and men
Go often askew,
And leave us nothing but grief and pain,
For promised joy!How appropriate to quote a Scot when this team's woes can be traced to a certain redheaded Scotsman.

Even the colorful streamer attacks on visiting players in the corners – a common and frequent sight – have subsided, almost making a display seem like a novelty

Okay, scatching my head at this one on the MLS site....

They told us not to do that or we would be ejected, is this all just some elaborate joke?

I'm having a hard time understanding why MLS (and TFC by extension) would be interested in writing an article about fan disenchantment and posting it at a league site. And if you are going to talk about them, why not show one or two of those banners that are mentioned? Perhaps because you don't want to embarrass the club ownership?

Yeah, trust MLS to blame TFC supporters for not throwing streamers when they made the bloody rule to pander to douchebag Seattle fans.

Viewpoint from the competition's press:

On the bright side, it turns out Real Salt Lake actually has clinched a Major League Soccer playoff berth.
But not much else has gone right for it the past couple of days.
While league officials have corrected their mistaken calculation that RSL did not clinch a playoff spot with its dramatic home draw against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night, the defending MLS Cup champions endured a frustrating travel ordeal en route to their crucial CONCACAF Champions League game tonight against Toronto FC at BMO Field in Toronto.
Nearly the whole team was stuck in Atlanta overnight Sunday after missing a Delta Air Lines connection there, forcing coach Jason Kreis to cancel practice Monday in advance of a game in which RSL can achieve one of its biggest goals of the season by qualifying for the knockout round of the prestigious international tournament.
“We’re going to go after it,” midfielder Kyle Beckerman said.

RSL only needs a tie to clinch. TFC needs a win to survive.

I can think of a couple of people who should take notice of this:

Will this all add up to a raise over the final two years of Gargan’s contract?
“Unfortunately, that’s not up to me,” he said, “but I knew what I was getting into. I signed on because I wanted to be here.”

I like gargan too, but i kind of agree with the people who say this sort of reaction is what's wrong with toronto based fans, lionising gritty role players making the most of their talent, but who are ultimately ten a penny, rather than the talented players who can truly make a difference.

I don't like what De Ro did, and i do like what gargan does and thoroughly enjoyed that comment quoted above, but no way Gargan should be a legend ahead of some other people on our team.

Good perspective in Girard's article in the Star. Thanks Dan for continuing to write about sports. about 4 hours ago (http://twitter.com/Paulbeirne/status/25777167018) via Twitter for iPhone (http://twitter.com/)

think he's getting a bit sick of all the off field stuff?

God it's depressing reading the news about this team lately. It frustrates me to no end that other teams in the leauge with a fraction of the fan support have better teams than us and will make the playoffs. I would pay $100 to have a town hall meeting with our management team just to tell them how i feel. Sorry make that $1000 lol.

Unfortunately, this is very accurate. I love what Gargan has brought to the team but the fact of the matter is he gave up a penalty that put TFC behind the 8 ball from the start and DeRo scored to cut the lead in half. DeRo is arrogant while Gargan can relate more to the "common man" therefore the perception is that DeRo is a villain and Gargan is a legend...

I'm an avid dog lover and I think Michael Vick is among the lowest forms of humanity. Do you think most Philadelphia Eagles fans give a crap right now? And I'm sure many of the fans cheering his touchdown passes in the stands own dogs...

But that's the first major mistake Gargan has made all season, something that led directly to a goal. Usually he's very dependable, works hard, is a smart player. He's not simply an untalented hack who gets the glory because he's tough or something.

We shouldn't suddenly look down on Dan Gargan because he gave up a penalty. He did score a goal in league play afterall, evening that out :)

Not to mention it was GARCIA who made an awful and dangerous pass to Gargan, basically putting Gargan behind the eight ball in the 18 yard box.
It's partially Garcia's fault.

BTW, De Vos's article is bang on:

I don't recall anyone forcing De Rosario to sign his contract against his will when he joined the club two years ago (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2008/12/12/tfc-derosario.html). He was happy to sign on the dotted line for his hometown club and happy to come home to be the star player that the fans were craving.
If he didn't like the terms of that contract, he never should have signed it in the first place. If he felt his ability merited a contract of designated player status, as some people believe it does, he should have held out for one.

I agree with what DeVos says, but there's been speculation that he was maybe promised a DP slot down the road, prob by Mo Johnston and has not been given it. Now that MoJo is gone, maybe he's worried that the deal is off so to speak.

I don't recall anyone forcing MLSE to sign Ali Gerba's contract when they did. If MLSE didn't like the terms of the contract they should have never signed the contract. MLSE didn't honour their contract with Ali Gerba and sent him home in a very public manner. Going as far as saying the coach doesn't think he's up to snuff.

MLSE can't have it both ways. Atleast Dero is still honouring his contract, he's simply asking for it to be looked at again (albeit in the wrong way).

Huh? What are you talking about? Gerba wasn't paid what he was owed?? (that's the definition of honouring a contract). If they didn't pay him what he was owed, Gerba should go to the courts.

Also, what do you mean by Gerba was sent home in a very public manner? The guy was sent home by the coach and paid his contract. Nothing wrong with that. They didn't come out at halftime and rip his contract up in front of supporters. LOL.
