I hate how people say his first thought was to think of himself or that he could have grabbed the ball and carried it back to half.

If he'd have done his normal goal celebration after scoring the goal instead of writing the cheque, nobody would have said boo.

Leader DeRo was shown in the Montreal Miracle where he celebrated his goals, but hustled back to restart. I don't think celebrating his goal would've been an issue, but (from watching the replay), its that hard turn he made, the purposeful strides and how he stood there staring at the owner's box, ignoring Hscanovics trying to celebrate the goal with him. His actions, combined with the context (wearing captain's armband, must-win game, still down a goal), I really don't see how it could come across as anything other than selfish, to be honest.
