For those of us interested, here's a link to tonight's match:

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but an Arabe win may be what's best here, or is it a draw? However you slice it, an RSL win is a no-no.

We want an Arabe win, although a draw would be acceptable.

And the diving has begun.. and it led to a 2nd minute free kick goal for Arabe. 1-0 Arabe after ~3 minutes now.

Well, that was quick!

Arabe 1-0, 2 minutes in, direct free kick just outside the 18 yard box.

Will Johnson makes it 1-1; what a mess in the Arabe backend.

TheRenter

Shot from inside the box and a big save by the Arabe keeper to keep it at 1s.

3-1. CA has to get a result in Salt Lake now. TFC's loss in Panama is even more embarrassing and devastating to the possibilities of advancing.

Crap. Can't believe TFC couldn't score against Arabe. Then again, RSL often looks like they play in a different league from TFC.

Another thing: this ref is much more fair than the one TFC got in Panama. Diving isn't going to get them as far as it did against TFC. As a result, it looks like their doing less of that.

So I guess if TFC beats RSL 4-0 at BMO that will really improve their chances of going through??? ;)

TheRenter
09-22-2010, 07:57 PM
3-1 RSL at the half, Johnson with the brace, this one pretty much a forgone conclusion..night all.

bah!

is the first tiebreaker head to head record or overall goal difference?

If we win out and get 10, and cruz azul beats arabe then loses in rsl to finish on 10, we'd have the head to head tiebreaker but unless something strange happens, they'll have gd.

it sucks that the final games aren't played at the same time, they'll know exactly how hard or not hard they have to try to qualify.

I'm pretty sure the first tie break is head to head, followed by GD.

LOL PK.

Fairly weak penalty called, but I don't know what the heck the RSL defender was doing there, so he deserved it. Or at least we'll take it. :D

3-2 now.

This is what I think might happen, we beat RSL and the Panama team and our on 10 points, RSL will tie Cruz Azul at home at finish with 11, which means Cruz Azul will finish with 11 after having beat the Panama team at home, thus, we are eliminated. Therefore, Cruz Azul and RSL will go into their final game against each other knowing that a tie is enough for both to advance. I hope I'm wrong but I think that's how this will play out.

He got a yellow before coming off. Then he was mouthing off from the bench, so 2nd yellow.

Well, right now RSL is top of the group, and I think they have a very good chance of beating CA at home. The miracle we need if for Arabe to somehow get a point in Mexico and second place is ours.

We can get max points at home, if we beat Salt Lake, we can compensate some of that goal difference, and obviously have to beat Arabe Unido. I bet that last game is going to be reminescent of the match against Puerto Rico last year. Cruz Azul are unstoppable when trying, and they are really going to be pressured to win in Salt Lake, its not that far-fetched.

We're in if any of the following happen:

We win both home games and:

(1) Arabe takes a point in Mexico (almost impossible)
(2) We beat RSL by enough to reverse the goal difference (after the "Miracle in Montreal," anything is possible. RSL's priority is the league).
(3) Cruz Azul beats RSL at home (difficult, but not impossible).

Our odds aren't great, but we're alive.

beat RSL at home....is a tough task...we will need our full team..not lineups we had in our 2 prievious CL games....

If we beat San JOSE on saturday....i think we'll throw the CL away and go full throttle to make the playoffs...hope not....but it seems thats the way the team looks to be heading..

if we beat RSL...only thing we have going for us..They play CRUZ in the final game...no push over by any means...

Its hard to take when your team takes 4 of 6 points against Mexigan giants...and still most likely wont get out of the group!

(2) If we beat RSL 3-0 at home, then we tie on head to head goal diff, and advance on head to head road goals.

(3) If RSL wins at home, Cruz will have 10 points, like us, and we hold the tie breaker on them (4 points earned to 1). Either team can win that last match.
