That's not major!!!!! Major is MoJo leaving and they have signed a new GM for next year.

Signing of Fabien Brandy? If another striker is signed does that spell the end of Mista in Toronto?

That would be nice but I don't think it will happen until TFC is officially eliminated from the playoffs or at the end of the season...

Signing of Fabien Brandy?

The most likely thing.

It has to be a player announcement.

Although its possible Mo throws Preki under the bus today.

The second possibility is that Preki has resigned as coach because he's to old and his body too banged up to fly anymore. He'll now have a job as the head of the bureaucracy department at TFC. :D

Since yesterday afternoon it's been impossible to sign onto account manager. My ticket rep was in an all day meeting yesterday.

It can be anything from a special renewal offer for season 5 to just about anything under the sun.

nfitz
09-14-2010, 09:14 AM
Who isn't in Salt Lake?

Have to think it's either Mo, or a major signing. Timing says Mo ... unless Preki is AWOL in Salt Lake.

Though it could be Dasovic I suppose ...

Account Manager is back up BTW.

My hope is Daso for the rest of the year (the only coach with real experience) and then a SHORT but productive effort to find a new GM/Coach. One. Not two people. One. Not this Mojo experiment that was a complete bust, but a single "Hans Backe/Bruce Arena" of our own.

Darlofletch
09-14-2010, 09:32 AM
Interesting.

would they have a "major announcement" to fire someone and basically admit their own error? Doesn't seem likely, but maybe before renewals start they want to make a big splash of how seriously they're taking things.

Can't see it being a player announcement, Mista was very low profile, so they wouldn't do this sort of thing for someone at Brandy's level, and I doubt there's any superstar dp out there that no-one's been specualting about, they don't keep secrets that well.

My best guess would be mls cup hype and ticket info.

I'm officially intrigued. damn work had better not be busy this afternoon.

edit: didn't see the globe article or all the "mo and preki gone" comments before i typed this. interesting. glad to see mo go. Not happy about preki but at the same time i'm not devestated by it.

back to square one i guess. let the inmates run the asylum at least to the end of the season. Hopefully they've got someone good lined up for the long term.

I hope it's true .... we need a new start!

We have to reboot this team. It's obvious that the current management was as useful as tits on a bull.

Also, we need to do some soul-searching and see if the players we have are the right ones. That INCLUDES De Rosario and De Gúzman.

Player movements are unlikely at this point in the year. If the team has given up trying to make the playoffs, we may see more of the kids play but contracts at this point are guaranteed so you won't see the team sending players home.

As much as im tired of not succeeding, and goals not being met.
Im even MORE tired of the fact of TFC's revolving door.
If it is true that Preki is gone, that means there going to be a new coach, who will bring in a new players, meaning old players will be cut.

Is this something as a toronto sports fan were going to have to except EVERY YEAR from all the ML$E teams? Becasue it seems like it happens every year.

While this is good news....

It's going into year 5 and it's like TFC is an expansion team all over again.

Not necessarily. The team has a solid foundation and needs someone with vision at the helm. At least now there is legitimate hope for next season. Perhaps Dasovic might even be able to salvage this season if the players are motivated...

Wow -- of course the implication here is that, by doing this now, they still don't want to give up on this season.

But it still is weird timing.

I have no problem with Daso taking over, but we really have no one to run things upstairs at the moment -- I don't know if Jimmy is ready to take that on full time.

As much as we are pointing to Mo/Preki, as a few others have noticed, these two are where the real problem lies.

Toronto FC has fired Coach Preki and director of soccer Mo Johnston, and will name assistant Nick Dasovic as the interim coach, the Insider has learned.
The drastic moves comes three days after Toronto (7-10-7) lost at home to MLS bottom-dweller D.C. United, 1-0 -- the club's fifth scoreless performance in six matches. TFC is 1-6-3 in its past 10 league games. The team will play a CONCACAF Champions League match Wednesday at Real Salt Lake.

Yes, and it's a fanbase they have little respect for. They now this will satisfy people and is a lot easier to do than sign a quality striker.

When your big announcement is people being fired - not quality people being added - your organization is in bad, bad shape from the top down.

Maybe they'll actually hand the team over to someone who can make it a winner and get out of his way. They'll have to really open the vault, give him a ton of money and a long-term contract, but that's what they finally did with their other teams so probably that's what they'll do here. Let's hope so.

Pookie
09-14-2010, 10:10 AM
I'm 50/50 on the decision to let Preki go. I think his departure is more political in nature.

This team lacked discipline and fitness. Preki had the balls to bench our supposed superstar for breaking curfew and Mo's second DP signing who didn't hustle and sent the message that no one is bigger than the team.

Mo has a history of undermining coaches (see Chris Cummins and the mysterious departure of Carver) and I don't doubt for a second that this trend could have continued here.

I met Preki on 3 occassions this year and found him very approachable, professional and genuinely passionate about what he did.

I can't comment on his style of play as the supposed root cause of the downfall of this team. Clearly, this style was good enough to get Chivas into 3 post season rounds. For some reason, it didn't work here. Was it because the system is flawed? Was it because of "dressing room influences"? We'll never really know.

What I do know is that the firing had to happen from a perception standpoint. It's a clean slate for the new "Manager" but considering that Peddie and Anselmi are hiring that Manager, I don't have a ton of confidence in their ability to choose someone with experience.

Good luck Preki.

I just hope they don't base any decisions for next year on the last few games of this season, the traditional new coach bump will be supersized with the dislike the players had for preki and mo. good news for the rest of this season, but I hope they don't take any success as the norm of what he'll do.

Preki's decision making about bringing in stiffs like Peterson, and Hscanovics, sticking with that pylon Garcia, and his refusal to change tactics, were enough for me....he deserved to go!!

The decision on Mo has been a long time coming,
But I am surprised, though not all that disappointed, by the dismissal of Preki.
Usually MLSE takes a long long time to make up their minds on someone.

I hope it's true .... we need a new start!

We have to reboot this team. It's obvious that the current management was as useful as tits on a bull.

Also, we need to do some soul-searching and see if the players we have are the right ones. That INCLUDES De Rosario and De Gúzman.

This.........I'm starting to doubt, De Guz at least for the $ spent.......I think maybe his future next year is also....in the air, as 4 DeRo, love him but I think there R some leadership issues in the locker, He is definitely a 1 man show, is this good? only with the right personnel , willing 2 work with him.

No.

The players had rebelled against Preki. that's what did him in.

I tend to agree with this ... the team did not play on Saturday. They were static and listless. Nobody was moving around, nobody was creating any space. Very rarely did anyone come to the ball. They put in their time on Saturday, there was little effort though.

LOL lets not go there.

I'm sure all angles were reviewed and considered.

They see the empty seats and knew the general fanbase perceptions and how it may impact STH renewals etc

you may be onto something there

lots of empty seats on saturday especially in east stands ie 108 especially

I don't know all the details but it seems that the scrap between Preki and Dasovic was pretty intense.

I'm 50/50 on the decision to let Preki go. I think his departure is more political in nature.

....

I met Preki on 3 occassions this year and found him very approachable, professional and genuinely passionate about what he did.
.....

I think this has more to do with the fact Preki was MoJo's guy. MoJo sat at a press conference when Preki was hired and said he is they guy MoJo wanted and was waiting to sign.

I guess MLSE figured if you're going to clean house just get it all done now and move on. Get a new GM and give him the reigns to build.

Let's HOPE its a clean slate...

I use the below as examples only...

If the new manager is told things like "...JDG & Mista MUST stay, as they are our DP's..." or "...keep Daso on the bench he's been loyal..." etc, then its not a clean slate...

Its only a clean slate if he comes in, and has full control over who is here, who is gone, and how he runs the club...

So my initial elation at this news has now worn off and I'm back to the emotion that I most commonly associate with TFC: worry.

Once Daso takes over as interim, we'll start looking for a full-time replacement and there's no indication anyone with MLS experience wants to be associated with this gong show.

And whoever does come in will likely blow up the squad in the offseason and we'll be back to square one, as others here have stated.

Despite all the restructuring done so far this year, we're still bumping up against the salary cap and it seems much magic will be required to fix this.

And I totally agree with the point that this'll be used to justify another round of ticket price hikes next season.

And Jimmy as GM? For fuck's sake...

I think it was time for MoJo to move on, Preki I know was trying to get them to play possession defensive football and he didnt have the talent around him. Barrett getting hurt really took the wind out of the sails, while OBW and Mista have been failures. Finally, with out any width in their lineup and talent in the centre of the park, the team ended up trying to play over the top and it failed.

Mo took too long to find us a real striker, although Barretts abscence shows how important he is, and neglected our wings. Our backline is finally looking solid, but in year four we should have made the playoffs.

I dont know what the changes now will do, I figured they would give them to seasons end, but I guess now is the time to find a replacement.

Preki was told he had to keep the assistants - and that included Daso - wonder how he feels about that now....
