Real Salt Lake was on the cusp of history, leading Cruz Azul 3-1 in the 75th minute as part of its bid to be the first American team to beat a Mexican club team on the road.
But in an improbable conclusion, the teams combined for five goals in the final portion of a game that came down to the very last minute. At the end, RSL took a 5-4 loss in a rain-soaked match in Mexico City.

Cruz Azul’s offensive explosion extended the legacy of Mexican dominance, and RSL’s collapse extended American teams’ futile record to 0-43-3.

I hurried past sandor's article in the free newspaper this morning, of course we were poor but it doesn't excuse the refereeing or the opposition. How anyone can overlook the free kick against Labrocca near the corner when he hadn't even gotten to the player yet is beyond comprehension

Some plain truths heading down the stretch, as was clearly seen on Tuesday and of late with the roster and depth - if we are going to have success in '10/rest of this season, the tactics and players on the field need to start being more aggressive and showcasing the actual talent this squad has.

If we played to potential, with a proper squad on the pitch - the ref could have been Arabe's head coach and we still would have won...

The ref sucked, but he IS NOT THE REASON WE LOST...

Losers blame the ref, winners blame themselves and move on...

I agree that what you say is usually the case. However, this case is pretty extreme (and the Krew's is even worse). What if you put 11 top players on the pitch, and the ref finds excuses to red card all 11?

Then you have a right to complain for sure... LOL

But you field a C-side, generate 1 legit scoring chance, and then blame the ref, you're finding a scapegoat...

Was the ref brutal - HELLS YES!

The worst part is this, winners learn from mistakes. Cruz Azul made a mistake by fielding a B-team on the road to an opponent they felt was below them, us. We beat them...

What does Preki do? Makes the same mistake Cruz Azul made and paid for it...

With the knowledge that the officiating was going to be shit, the facilities shit, go out and (as techno says) "step on their throats"... That means, put out the big guns, put the ball in the net - if the ref becomes a farce, you have a complaint - but field a team that plays for a 0-0 draw and losses 1-0, you can't "blame" the official - we lost...

Experience is the games greatest teacher they say - but if you experience everything and learn nothing, then its wasted experience...

I already said we were poor. How poorly we played and how little regard Preki had for the game judging by the team he put out are an aside to two things that were such an affront to the game of football that even people with no love for TFC *couch*bill fucking archer*cough* clearly saw.

I'm already anti-Preki but much like the whole jdg topic, it's done to death at the moment

CONCACAF by the numbers (http://www.24thminute.com/2010/08/concacaf-by-numbers.html)

Despite the cliché about statistics, damn statistics and lies, the truth is numbers rarely lie. Numbers don’t have an agenda, the people that interpret them do. My agenda is pretty clear, so I’m just going to let you judge what this might mean.

Over the last two years of CONCACAF Champions League play there have been 22 games between teams in USL/NASL or MLS and teams in Central America or Mexico that have been officiated by a Central American or Mexican referee crew. Detailed statistics are available for 19 of those games (CONCACAF does not list detailed stats from the first year of the CCL).

In 17 of the 19 games the Canadian, American or Puerto Rican club has had more fouls called on them. In the two games that the Mexican or Central American teams had more calls against the foul count was within one.

This.

You should never put yourself in position where you have to blame the ref.

TFC could have still won despite the ref. Problem is they didn't.

Blame yourself first. If you can say, without a doubt, you played your best, then you might an excuse.

I can't say TFC played their best.

Easier said than done of course, but the best cure for an incompetent referee is a 3-nil lead.

Some quick thoughts on TFC signing an academy player to the senior squad, the continuing fallout from the CONCACAF Champions League matches earlier this week and TFC gets screwed again my MLS by not following the FIFA calendar. Comments always welcome.

How is it that TFC gets screwed by MLS when the entire MLS is playing on that day?
