NEW YORK, Associated Press: Thiery Henry forces MLS to adopt new rules of allowing players to run while holding the ball with one hand only.

Following his World Cup qualifying goal vs Ireland, which was illegal and in no way should have counted, Henry contacted Don Garber and insisted the rule be adopted by MLS.

"How else will I score? I can't come to America and fail, that would be terrible for my image and the image of your league." The French striker said prior to signing with New York.

"I need to do well, and without my hands I can't do anything anymore."

Garber initially refused comment on the issue, but when pressed said "...Henry is a great player, and needs no special treatment, however this rule will apply to him only."

Juan Pablo Angel was quoted by the Daily Post saying "...I wish I could use my hands, but I am the most productive DP in league history, so I don't need the help."

Following New York's match with Houston, Garber also introduced a new rule that any foul that warrants a card against the Red Bulls will be an automatic Red Card. The new rule also dictates that any penalty will also be met with a red.

Since applying such rules officials have been shy to award penalties, as seen in Toronto this week when a call should have been made in the games first minute.

Late in the contest, Nana Attakora was sent off for an unintentional hand ball in the box, but the rules state that any penalty NY is awarded justifies a red card.

Garber has since down played the new rules, as Los Angeles appealed saying the same treatment should be given to David Backham and United States international Landon Donovan.

Donovan to his credit has said any special treatment given to the league superstars is unfair and will hurt the league. Garber has since fined Donovan for thos comments.
