oh no! another poll. save it.
we're more than halfway through the season with three of our next 4 games at BMO. to counter that, all but one of our games is at home during the last month of the season. now we started slow, but then our hopes picked up halfway through the season only to plummet again after a series of home ties and away losses. just a simple yes or no to see where some of our members stand on this matter..

DO YOU THINK TFC WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS?

try to keep the chatter limited to why/why not without starting up the inevitable "we always do this, this club is worthless, stop supporting MLSE, etc!!" tap dance routine, it's way too easy. results are coming after the poll closes in a week.

yes - they are a better team than last year, and are fortunate to be in a conference where other teams are struggling.
They will squeak in.

why is this a hidden poll?

appeal to the people mentality, you see a majority answer and it effects your opinion.

not sure I buy that. If anything, it makes people think that we're collecting data for something other than just a curious gauge of opinion. But no matter really.... our opinions won't be putting them into the playoffs or keeping them out.

I'm sorry, but it's simply unfair to the East when you can have 6 teams go through on the west and only 2 in the east. It should be top 3 and then the best 2.

Its not unfair at all when you consider each team in the league plays each other twice.

Hah, you worry about it in this thread, but no one says a word on a thread about how much merchandise everyone owns. That's as close to market research as you can get and I bet MLSE loves you for it.

I don't think it's unfair at all. In fact, I think it would be unfair if it were the other way around. To me, the top 8 teams should go through period. At least in the current setup, there is less likelihood of lesser teams making it through just because they are in one division over another. That would be unfair and it is exactly what would happen if they guaranteed 4 spots in each conference.

Anyways, I am really mixed on this. It really is 50/50 for me. They are certainly not rampaging their way into the playoffs, if they do make it, it will be through the backdoor of luck. So basically how do you guess whether or not this team will be lucky enough to make it?

yep. if our 'unbeaten at home' streak included a few more wins and a few less draws, we'd be in a much better spot.

Voting No now because ilikemusic made me.

Nope, won't make it.

TFC won't catch Columbus and New York improved their team tremendously over the last few weeks. Combine that with the improved play of some regular playoff participants and it spells a long off-season again.

TFC failed to create a gap when the likes of Houston, Seattle and New England were struggling and will now pay the price. Colorado and San Jose aren't playing bad either.

You're totally right -- we're following the script to the tee. After tonight, TFC will crash out of the CCL and several more draws/losses will push us to the brink of losing a wildcard playoff berth. Then, at the last minute, we'll step up our game, only to shit the bed in one of the few last remaining matches.

I don't know how it could've been any easier last year - away at NYRB, needing a draw to go into the playoffs, we collapsed wholesale against what then was one of the worst teams in the league.

The only thing different this year will be that it'll be Chivas, Columbus or DCU that finish our run.

it's just the way the poll is set up, the results are up in a week, free for all to see and who voted for what.

personally, i'd like to see the boys regain their form and pull out a road run the likes we've never seen. will it happen? probably not. will be it the thing of legends if it does? hell yes. i think we can all agree though, that if we fail to make the playoffs, mo's out before the finals even take place.

It's interesting that we will be facing the worst team in the league for our last game. The same thing happened last year. The question is whether we will shit the bed again. At the very least I have confidence that TFC would not embarrass themselves and their fans the same way again. The real question here is whether that final game will be meaningful or not for our chances to get in the playoffs.

Agreed on all points. This season hasn't progressed the way I envisioned at all. I thought TFC would have been slow out of the gate and put together a decent run at the midway point of the schedule once the players became acclimated with each other and Preki's tactical approach. Unfortunately, TFC peaked early in the schedule and they have struggled in recent weeks. The trend of years past is rearing it's ugly head again despite TFC's vast improvement on the defensive end. Due to the emergence of several clubs in the western conference specifically, I think it will once again come down to the final weekend of the schedule. The points TFC dropped against the likes of Kansas City (twice), Houston, and Philadelphia will ensure that it will be a difficult road to the playoffs the rest of the way...

just what will it take for TFC to build up that fighting mentality?

It's certainly interesting. It's also interesting that three of our last four games (all in October) are road games.

With 9 points at stake, we had best have this shit sown up by then, or by the time we're playing DC, both us and them will be playing for nothing.

you know what, i was thinking the exact same thing. when's the last time the RPB's did something big (think dichio banner, or streamer shower)? not that i'm saying TFC lack support in any way shape or form, but i think something absolutely batshit insane is in order.

The whole East/West thing in MLS is a sham to begin with seeing that it's POINTS that get you in the playoffs and not by ranking in your conference. The E/W thing is for those 'American' league purists who are so use to East/West thing. But this came back and bites MLS in pooper when NYRB won the West title in '08 and it was Real and LA in the final last year.
It's the best teams that get in...period.

My vote is that we squeak in as either the 7th or 8th seed. The playoff picture is really congested right now, but we are in a good position to make it still.

As long as we can get our scorers generating offense again, of course. Looking at you DeRo, Barrett, and Mista.

The play of Maicon and Mista gives me some hope that our offense might ignite a little bit down the stretch, and that will be enough to let us limp into the post-season.

It's not unfair, it's by merit. It ensures that the best teams are making the post season. If we're not good enough, we're not good enough.

Personally, I don't like that site too much. It tends to overstate the effect of individual games. For example, if we lose away to RBNY next week, it says our chances will be down 17%. Really? It's only 3 points.

What's interesting about that prediction site is that it thinks there are only 2 teams on the outside of the playoff race. I seem to remember more being in the hunt last year. Only NY was totally and completely out of it.

but according to that, Chivas, Houston, Wiz, Revs, Union, and DC are finished already.

you're totally correct. My point was that last year that website only had NYRB completely out of it by this time. Right now it essentially has 6 teams completely out of it.

I find that interesting. Usually at this point, almost every MLS team is still in it.
