Good to see Henry getting called up to the senior squad, he earned it with his performance against Bolton.

Very good blog from Jason de Vos:
Time to speak up about state of Canadian soccer (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/blogs/jasondevos/2010/07/time-to-speak-up-about-state-of-canadian-soccer.html)

It 's sad that we still have to deal with this agenda instead of concentrating on national programs that will do well for Canada and not only individual provinces.

I know this article was posted before but just in case you missed it here is again.

How Germany reinvented itself (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/soccer/world-cup-2010/writers/raphael_honigstein/07/01/germany.reinvention/index.html)

So question is why can't we have something like this in Canada?

goal.com reports that Motagua forward George Welcome is on trial at Glasgow Rangers.

Good news for TFC.... He won't be playing on Tuesday.

TFC's gear has not arrived in KC yet. They may have to pull a pompey.

Portsmouth had to use DC United's away jersey when they played a friendly against them.

For some reason, the Reds (6-5-5, 23 points), who sit in third place in the Eastern Conference, play a baffling style away from BMO Field.
Toronto players seem content to simply allow the opposition to dictate the play through long stretches of the game — a strategy that kills the soccer club's chances at extra points.

Great article by De Vos.

What's good for Canada is also good for Alberta, there is no situation where one province receives greater benefit from the Men's National Team doing well. Unfortunately, the problem that's causing the pissing contest is the allocation of funds. An easy way to solve this (not sure if it's already incorporated or not), is to correlate funding with youth membership in soccer. For instance, if 20% of Canada's youth play soccer in Ontario, Ontario should receive 20% of the available funding. Funding by membership is how the provinces fund transit and it really is the fairest solution that will be blind of petty politics.
