Reds looking for their best at Gillette

Toronto FC eager to shake poor road history against Revs

TORONTO -- With just two road wins in 20 road games, there aren't many friendly venues for Toronto FC across Major League Soccer, but Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. has been a particular house of horrors for the Reds. In two games against the New England Revolution last season, TFC delivered two of their poorest performances en route to 4-0 and 3-0 losses. With Saturday's match in New England looming as an important battle for positioning in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt, Toronto captain Jim Brennan knows his team can't afford another letdown against the Revs.
"Last year they thumped us, but this year will be a lot different," Brennan said. "They're a very good side. They're a club that's always there at the end and always up at the top of the table. It's a tough place to go and get a result, but we'll get things right this week, work hard and go in there and look to get something.
TFC's road woes have continued into 2008. The Reds notched a win against Western Conference-leading Los Angeles last April 13, but have lost their other four games away from BMO Field. Their last road defeat, a 3-1 loss to Houston on June 8, left coach John Carver so frustrated that he and his staff reviewed the team's road itinerary in order to find anything that could be changed to help the Reds be better prepared away from home.

Reds prepare for Revs

Toronto look towards New England

Toronto FC began preparing for Saturday's game at New England Revolution with a training session at BMO Field on Monday morning. Coach John Carver has changed the team's schedule in the build up to the game as he looks to improve the Reds away form. "Since the loss at Houston, we've looked at every aspect of how we prepare for away games, and we're going to do things a bit differently this time," explained Carver. "The day before the game, we would usually train here before we go to the airport, but this week we won't do that. We will fly to New England and then train when we get there at about 6:00 p.m. It's closer to the time we will be playing the game and it makes the travel day shorter for the players. We'll see if that affects people's mental and physical attitude. I'm looking forward to going to New England and trying to get something on the road."
Toronto head to New England after a 0-0 draw at home to Kansas City Wizards on Saturday. "It was quite a disappointing result," said Carver. "Obviously we wanted to take all three points but the pleasing thing is that it's another game undefeated. I know everyone expects us to win games like that at home."
Carver praised the Wizards for their approach to the game. "I spoke to their guys after the game and they said they were so pumped up to play here.

Not TFC, but MLS related:

Los Angeles Galaxy striker Landon Donovan made it a hat trick on Monday, earning Major League Soccer player of the week honours for a third time this season.

I think were lucky not to face Mexico in the first two home games.
Hopefully we can win these games to get off to a flying start.

"TFC is coming off of what Carver described as a "disappointing" 0-0 draw with last-place Kansas City last Saturday, but the coach said that his team will try to emulate K.C.'s well-planned, defense-first road mentality as the Reds head into a hostile territory of their own. "

Will we see a change in formation apart from our normal home set-up?

I hae been a strong propenent of having 2 target men up front, it seems to have worked the times we have done it. . so now that its "DEFENSE FIRST"

will hte midfield be cloggged with bodies forcing the revs to go up and over?

I hope so, and I hope Sutton starts, we need his leadership on the field if we are to stal some points!!

If we get a result this weekend. . . we are the REAL deal . .

"AND NOW YOUR GONNA BELIEVE US! WE'RE GONNA WIN THE LEAGUE!" (after the result haha)

MLS stars stand out for countries
By Dylan Butler / MLSnet.com Staff

A brace by Houston Dynamo standout Dwayne De Rosario helped lead Canada to a 4-1 win against St. Vincent and the Grenadines Friday night at Stade Saputo in Montreal.
Canada, which also featured Houston's Pat Onstad in goal, FC Dallas' Adrian Serioux in the back and Toronto FC defender Jim Brennan off the bench, easily advanced to the semifinal stage of CONCACAF qualifying for the FIFA 2010 World Cup, winning 7-1 on aggregate.
"Most importantly, we got the result," De Rosario said after the game. "It's nice to play well and score, but we got the result." Canada, which is hoping to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986, will be placed in Group 2 - CONCACAF's so-called "Group of Death" - and play in a semifinal series against Mexico, Jamaica and Honduras starting in August.
