sometimes BlogTO is great, and sometimes....

"Who has better fans, the blue jays of tfc?"

maybe one day people will realize that going to a Jays game and going to a TFC
game are very different things? Just like going to the Leafs is different from going
to the Argos. Sheesh. Slow news day over there? Any point in discussion?

if there's one thing I cant stand it's the "Who has better fans?" argument. Especially comparing Toronto teams to eachother. I like going to Blue Jays games... so am I a better fan at TFC games than I am at Bluejays games? How so?

I love baked good.

Seriously though, there was a jays game (boston in town) at the same time as the World Cup Final. who plans these things?

A fan is a 'fanatic', is it not?

So that 'lady who fills out the stats' who has season tickets and attends 82 games a year is not as big a fan as you.

Do you think you're better because you sing?

TFC made me like the Jays again.
I always wanted baseball to be jump out of your seat exciting, like the football matches I'd been to overseas. Then when TFC came around, I got that fix and it made me realize that baseball's not about that. Baseball is about chilling in the summer. Get a beer and a hot dog and watch sports - it's amazing.

As for the "who's better" argument. Please - a lot of them are the same people and at the end of the day, most are the usual Toronto sports fan.

Agreed...

I rarely, basically never, watch the Jays on the tube - but I love going to games in the summer and just relaxing (as long as the Dome is open)...

Beer, hotdog, relax in the sun and chill - that's a good day at the ballpark...

exactly. going to a baseball game is a totally different experience from going to see TFC.

I was hoping that this thread would point out how there's no point in comparing them, like BlogTO is going with that poll.

Exactly. It's not a ra-ra sport. It's more about hanging out.

I do enjoy the games on TV though - not the kind of thing you intently watch. It's more like something on in the background.

Plus - baseball playoffs are great.

I dig the game on the radio, if you're at a cottage or relaxing in the backyard.
There are very few sports that work as well as baseball on the radio.

Ya, baseball on the radio - or even just having the TV audio up high enough to hear it outside is perfect in the summer...

Its the perfect chill background noise...

It would be nice if the Jays were a little more competitive, but hey, beggers can't be choosers... :)

actually it was about the absurdity of comparing two very different experiences.

Maybe I'll go find an article explaining that Legally Blond The Musical is nothing at all like sing Kris Kristoferson at Casino Rama. But clearly one of them as to be better, or else there wouldn't be a poll!

Oh and you can't discount the unfortunate state that is Skydome. A great facility built right at the end of the multi-purpose stadium era.

Imagine if the Jays played in a wrigley type stadium? It would be amazing.

it's an amazing stadium, but just like you said, from a very different time.
When it was being built, I doubt anyone would have seen the advantages
to a BMO field sized venue for soccer or CFL teams. Funny how that's changed.

Southern Ontario has been the victim of two sports venues built and tail end of an era...

SkyDome was completed, just as you said, when the multipurpose, modern style ballparks was ending...

Sport specific grounds began just as the Skydome enjoyed its glory run (thanks to not only the stadium, but the fact the Jays were the best team in baseball)...

Also in that boat - Hamilton's Copps Coliseum... Designed and built before the era of private boxes and "executive seating" dominating NHL rinks - Copps was built like an old school rink of seats & stairs - not 'club levels and elevators' etc...

of coures BlogTO would find it necessary to compare fans within a city of different sports.

it's not like saying Mets v Yankees fans or something. which would make sense. because nobody supports them as a pair.

I goto/watch jays and tfc games.... am i better than myself? probably.

Cowboy905

i enjoy both.

i go to about 25 - 30 jays games a year and very rarely miss a game on tv. i'm what you'd call a jays fanatic i guess.

i love going to TFC games too and when both teams are playing, i choose TFC simply because theres less games, if i miss a Jays game, i can just go tomorrow....not the case with TFC.

but if i had to choose where i'd rather be, it'd be at a jays game if the dome was open.

the dome was great when it was built, but then along came Camden Yards and that changed everything.

the jays need a ballpark like PNC park in Pittsburgh and it'd make the gameday experience alot more enjoyable. We all also need to forget the Ricciardi era, as it was full of letdowns.

BMO should be rocking for the playoffs though :)

Even though I think the two sports cannot be compared, I think TFC fans are clearly superior. TFC has amongst the best fan support in the MLS where as the Jays have amongst the worst support in MLB. I like going to Jays games, no doubt, but a lot of the fans are not nearly as knowledgeable as other baseball fans in other cities across the league.

I watched the Jays in the 70's. Give me credit. The games were in this open stadium, where the sun would beat down on you, the rain would drench you, and the wind would freeze you. The stadium was way-y-y out at the Exhibition Place.

Today's TFC fans can't say that they have that degree of dedication. Oh wait....

better fans its hard to say. Depends what you mean by a better fan. Is it who sells more tickets? who makes more revenue? who are more loyal?

For me Blue Jay fans and Leaf fans are borring (well leaf fans that are at the ACC anyways). They sit there and only cheer when the score board tells them to and sit in there seats for the whole game unless a goal is scored or a home run is hit.

So Leafs and Blue Jay fans deffinitly love there teams, just like TFC fans do. But if it came down to what fans are the loudest its goes to TFC hands down, no one comes close to TFC at loudness and craziest fans at the games. Does that make them better?? for me yes, but not everyone is into that kind of support and obviously others will disagree.

I am the same way now. I'll attend a Jays match for a "lazy afternoon" sorta activity. Baseball isn't close to being a favourite sport of mine, but I go for the company with my friends and family more than anything else.

Last TFC game I went to (against KC) some people came from the Jays game and sat in front of me. They knew nothing about the sport and amongst themselves started the chant: clap clap FC clap clap FC as opposed to clap clap clap TFC clap clap clap TFC. It was pretty sad.
