Chivas USA Signs Venezuela's Giancarlo Maldonado

Looks to be a good pick-up from Atlante (Mexico). I can't remember if he is the one who scored against Canada in their recent friendly.

Looks like an interesting pickup.

Was on good form before he went to la liga whipping boys Xerez. Not uncommon for guys to rack up the goals in Brazil, Mexico, etc... go to europe and completely disapear... then come back and resume form in the same league they were at before.

I thought MLS would try more signings like this...

Being Venezuelan, I can tell you Maldonado is by far the best player we've had on the national team since I was born. I know that doesn't say much, but honestly, I think he'll do well in the MLS. I mean, the much shittier Venezuelan (Alejandro Moreno) has done preeetty good in this league. Maldonado is exactly what we need, a pure out and out striker with a goal scorer's touch. I wish him luck in Chivas.

Should we not have tried to sign him instead of Mista? I will reserve that comment until I see our second DP play, but does this type of signing not make more sense given the salary cap.

Note on Maldonado: He went from Golden boot winner in mexico to goat, then went to Xerez where he didn't do much either. So more problems than originally appeared, but still a decent signing considering he's a non-DP, only 27, and not THAT far away removed from some fantastic form.

They are close to adding another player apparently.

Also sounds like Galindo could be gone. That guy was tearing the league apart in 2007 and 2008. I wonder what happened.

It was a Venezuelan Winger that scored against Canada. Maldonado is a Forward.

what a great pass to start the play with and then Maldonado drives a bomb from about 19 yard out SPECTACULAR GOAL.. Probably one of the Nicest goals I've seen from an MLS squad this year..
