Surprised at: Ibrahim

For someone who rides the bench almost as much as the backup keeper....holy crap he is getting a good deal for his input into our results.

Salary is really between the player and the organization, but based on what they do on the field here are my thoughts:

Overpaid - These guys must have really good agents / contract negotiators!

TFC Barrett Chad F $ 2 05,000.00 $ 212,500.00
TFC de Guzman Julian M $ 1 ,670,796.00 $ 1,717,546.00
TFC Garcia Nick D $ 1 90,000.00 $ 198,750.00
TFC Ibrahim Fuad F $ 1 00,000.00 $ 133,000.00

Underpaid

TFC Attakora-Gyan Nana D $ 4 0,000.00 $ 40,000.00
TFC Cann Adrian D $ 5 6,592.00 $ 65,342.00
TFC DeRosario Dwayne M $ 3 75,000.00 $ 443,750.00 - When you look at what de Guzman is getting

Hscanovic came from europe, he wasnt going to move from his home to land across teh see where he doesnt speak the language blah blah blah

Ibbie, if im not mistaken is still a GA therefore we didnt work his contract and we arent paying it.

Cann is a hell of a deal

At present, the above are overpaid in my view. Worst on the list is Nick Garcia of course.

In terms of Usanow and Hscanovics, I don't think there overpaid. Euro. players always cost a little more. Peterson, maybe, but you get the impression the best is yet to come. Ibrahim he's overpaid. I know it's a GA contract and it's not against the cap, but it's insane that he make twice as much and bit than Cann.

fn disgusting that mo's former teammate who f'd up once again on defense is still with the team especially at 190 k

Wow,there's some seriously overpayment on this team. Is it that hard to get people to play for Toronto?

OB White better start scoring. And Ibbe may be generation adidas for one more season, but it's four years max, I think, and this is his fourth. The euro fullbacks are ridiculous -- yes, you'd need that to get them here, but neither is close to worth it.

So far, Julian does not look good for that level of DP money, either. That's $30,000 a week, good money even by premier league standards.

Peterson's still up in the air. He might be good for $140K a year, if he gets more time and continues to get his legs back/stays healthy.

Attakora, Harden, Gargan, Sanyang and Cann are all deals at that money.

You're wrong about Conway. He's making $20k more than Edwards did and about half of what Sutton made. Consider Frei could be on the way out if a bigger club comes knocking; having a back up of his calibre for only $60k is money well spent in my books.

The thing is we dont see the tricks and loopholes as easily as a disclosed list.

There is allocation and the details within. An example is dumping edwards so we could use allocation to pickup Conway and have less of that money count against the cap directly. I might be wrong but I seem to remember reading that somewhere. It explains the revolving door, donsn't mean we have to like it.

I don't get it either, are they paid base plus compensation?

So would Conway make 60000+69833.33 or $129,833.33?

TFC Conway Jon GK $ 60,000.00 $ 69,833.33

How much does Preki get paid?

I bet it is more than the average player, perhaps something akin to what Chad makes.

Does anyone know the answers to this one?

I think the base salary for Conway, for example, is $60,000 but with 'extras' his total pay - or compensation - is $69,833.33.

If I remember correctly, the base amount is the cap hit, and the guaranteed compensation is what they get paid.

The difference is accounted through allocation and GA status. For GAs, the difference is what the league pays vs what Adidas pays I think, but I don't remember if they still don't count against the cap or not.

The other thing to remember is we don't know how much of Garcia's cap hit SJ is taking on, and we don't know how much of Robinson's cap hit we are taking on.

That couldn't be it because the GA's would be listed as zero cap hit.

.

Steve Goff disagreed with that notion once.. I remember he posted the #'s and said there was no clear relationship between base and the actual cap hit for that player. Players do sign bonuses and whatnot, bonuses which can sometimes be spread out over the term of the contract and count against the cap. So that could be the difference.

The union doesn't know how MLS teams apportion each salary for cap purposes.

I can't believe Garcia salary. Not even sure why we got him.
We are a team of All for One but the sad part is i don't think he is part of this saying.
I know he goes out and tries but enough is enough. Time to let him go

wow schelotto took a HUGE cut!

look at Duka on columbus, base salary vs. compensation...HOLY

as for garcia being the most overpaid, disagree!!!

look at Jankuaskas for NE - he's done nothing or Matt Reis who rode the bench til Burpo got his leg broken.

Carl Robinson with NY overpaid too? Nate Jaqua?

Is the cap hit the base salary or total guaranteed?

Okay... These guys have to go:

-Garcia (Since his constant F--- up's i've been a hater, but now looking at his salary, im 10x the hater... wtf, i figured this guy was -40,000... as in he was paying us to let him get on the field???).... This is perhaps the 2nd worst salary in the history of sports next to Barry Zito + the Giants.

-Jacob Peterson - so unnoticeable I still cannot tell the difference between him and Harden (in all seriousness I can... but i just lump these into the 'i don't care that you even exist' column)

-Saric... It's an okay #, but in all honestly... Ricketts was bought out at a higher number, but brought more to the table than Martina here...

When's these guys up for raises?
-Nana
-Cann (how long of a deal did he sign)

And while were on the topic of cap hits....
If the plan is to eventually sell Frei to europe,
what's the general thoughts here? Same #'s for our backups?
or would one prefer to give Kocic 10k more, and stick him as #1, and draft a keeper next draft?

who will you replace them with?
Where will you send them?
Peterson hasnt had enough of a go this year, hes been injured and is starting to come into form, Garcia has a guaranteed contract that is being paid for by SJ, as for Saric, i still dont have a problem with him, hes not beautiful, hes adequate.

People still dont want to give Preki a chance at this point?
You do realize hes the one making the decisions about the players right?

Given how well the team is doing so far, I for one am willing to give Preki a pass.
He's gotten rid of a lot of Mo's guys, and the team has actually improved as a result.

Matt Reis who rode the bench til Burpo got his leg broken.
Reis was out injured to start the season, which is why Burpo was playing.

Reis came back early from injury, since the NE #3 was... well... an MLS pool GK, just like TFC in year one.

despite the complaints about salary, do you see what Preki has done? We had, what, three guys making 300+ last year who are gone now (Vitti, Robbo, Amado). So yeah, the replacements may be overpaid (100+ in some cases) but the team gets almost 3 players for the price of one this year. This allows depth. For one Robinson, they afford Cann, Gargan, Hscanovics, and Saric.

Given that the Canadian players will be in demand when Vancouver and Montreal come into the league, I would suspect Cann and Attakora will be getting healthy raises in the coming year or two.

DeRo would be getting fair dollars if it weren't for that marked difference with JDG. I would be shocked if DeRo didn't demand that second DP spot once he can opt out of a contract.

Cronin at 57Gs was decent value for someone who can step in and be a utility player when we need fresh legs or subs. Very disappointing to drop someone that came so cheap to us, especially when we are so overpaying Saric, Barrett, Garcia and the new European defenders.

Base salary does not equal cap hit. That's a common fallacy on the boards, one that Steve Goff cautioned against making last year.

Goff makes sense -- since logically, one could avoid cap hits by paying high bonuses. But the league has to pay the bonuses anyways, so I would think that total compensation would be the cap hit (reduced, however, by allocation).

Thus it's most likely that Cronin's 84K and 105K were his cap hits.
