CONCACAF Cup schedule released

Canadian champion Toronto FC will open the CONCACAF Champions League against Motagua of Honduras on July 27, while two-time runner-up Cruz Azul will embark on a third attempt to win the title later the same day against San Francisco FC in Panama.
LA Galaxy will face the Puerto Rico Islanders on July 27 with the return seven days later.
Sounders FC will begin what they hope is a CONCACAF Cup odyssey on July 28th when they play their opening leg against Isidro Metapan of El Salvador. It will be the second day of qualifiers.
The return game in Metapan will take place on August 3rd.

Motagua (HON) vs. FC Toronto (CAN), 8 p.m. Well, you can't get everything right.

A little note on the TFC alumnus who got us real grass at BMO Field:

TIM Howard has told Maurice Edu the World Cup will be child's play now he has proved he can cut it at Rangers. The Everton keeper warmed up for tomorrow's Group C opener against England in Rustenburg by praising the Ibrox midfielder to the hilt. http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/yb/146074534

If you can't watch the WC because of work, there is a CBC match tracker:

That would be so awesome if my workplace didn't use archaic IE6 - half the sites I go to (on breaks of course) crap out, no video, no chat, half the pictures don't even show up. Ah well - my PVR is going to get a workout this month.

Sad to See Empty Seats Everywhere..

Apparently they've got big-time traffic going on today. Stadium is maybe only 3/4ths full because of it.

Beers are like women...

Dwayne DeRosario should be given a Designated Player Contract. It makes sense for the player, it makes sense for the club and it makes sense for MLSE. Comments always welcome.

GREAT result for France with that tie between SA and Mexico. A french win can but Les Bleus in the drivers seat!

Thanks for the feedback.:)

Yes it has been discussed before, but if you, with due respect, can tell me where any additional salary cap or allocation dollars are going to come from to sign another DP other than DeRo I would love to hear it.

We do not have the space under the cap. MLSe can afford it of course, but not under the salary cap.

Signing DeRo to a DP contract (at the very least for the rest of this season) makes sense as it frees up space for some other roster moves.

Was thinking the exact same thing. B)

Uruguay will be a tough opponent, but I'm confident France will set the pace for this game and force the others to adapt to them.

I agree, though wouldn't want to committ to it beyond next season at most, don't know how willing De Ro would be to take a pay raise and then a drop.

That mean you are including next season. Fuck that.
Maybe, maybe maaayybe for the remainder for the rest of this season, but anything else is handcuffing the club.

Don't be so rigid.

It is not rigidity on my part Boban. It is simple logic based on how poorly to date Mo has managed the salary cap. I think it is probably likely that even if a new DP quality player wanted to come here this season it would be pretty unlikely that the club would be able to fit a contract like that under the cap.

Renegotiating DeRo's contract rewards him for his service and opens up, at least a little, the possibility that the club could be improved for the run in.

Your thought process is very rigid.
It is very typical and conventional.
Think outside the box, then you will see how your blog posting is rigid.
Be flexible.

Btw, reward DeRo for what? For playing under the terms of his contract?
Who the fuck gives you a raise for doing what is expected of you?
Remember what Preki said about Frie a few weeks ago after a game when asked about his performance.
