The Whitecaps also announced Tuesday that its season-ticket deposit number has soared to 10,000 and that more deposits will be up for grabs through Ticketmaster starting Saturday at 10 a.m.
The club has said it will cap season tickets in year one at 16,500, though CEO Paul Barber didn't rule out going beyond that number when asked Tuesday. "I think the most important thing is to get to that number," he said, "and with [Tuesday's] announcement you can see we are well on our way. I've been delighted with how much enthusiasm there is for tickets."

10,000 is pretty good, we didn't get that many until January 2007.

It looks like the MLS Whitecaps are going to be yet another MLS 2.0 success.

MLS 2.0 clubs:

Toronto FC
Seattle
Portland
Vancouver
Montreal

I suspect Montreal won't be selling tickets until 2011.

Great news...

I hope they have a packed house (I know not full b/c of BC Place) game-in / game-out... Great news for the league...

You forgot Philly Union, 12k season ticket holders, 35K and 25K first 2 home games.

I see that BC Place has a 60,000 capacity.
So I guess they are covering the upper sections like they do in Seattle?
What will be the capacity for VanCity games?

20-21,000.

Apparently the roof may be capable of lowering to cover the upper bowl, effectively reducing capacity to around 30,000. I should say: it is definitely possible to do, but they've backtracked from confirming it 10 months ago to saying that "they are considering the possibility of adding the capability" when I last checked the BC Place site.

I can't think of a better solution to the big stadium problem. I hope it goes through as originally planned. In any event, the new roof looks great: http://www.bcplacestadium.com/

Not to sound picky but I don't believe we hit 10,000 until late Feb or even March.

Well, now I get the chance to correct you. :D

NEW YORK -- David Beckham's jump to the Los Angeles Galaxy prompted a spike in tickets sales for several Major League Soccer teams.
The Galaxy said it had sold 5,000 season tickets since Thursday's announcement while the expansion Toronto FC said it sold 2,600 of its 10,000 season tickets.
TFC had 10,000 season tickets sold on January 16, 2007, 2,600 of them post-Beckham.

My memory goes more and more as I get older, but I remember the thread we had on Season Ticket sales back then, I was the one who most frequently posted updates.

So, as I was saying:

10,000 is pretty good, we didn't get that many until January 2007.

:D

I think they're going to end up pulling a Seattle and keep expanded capacity to somewhere 30k +

Vancouver is covered in bus and Skytrain ads advertising season tickets. Very nice ad with the new logo.

Totally different from TFC campaign in 2006, which was pretty quiet by comparison.

True but TFC got a free shot in the arm with Beckham.

^ But a lot of those were obviously scalpers.
