Not sure if this is posted elsewhere, but I just heard about this. If it's already put up somewhere, mods please delete.

Apparently there will be some TFC players at the GNC store in Pickering's Pickering Town Center on June 20th from 3:00pm to 4:00pm to sign autographs and such?

Just a heads up for those who are interested.

GNC ... don't they specialise in selling steroid, and other fishy stuff?

Are protein bars and vitamins now considered steroids?

I didn't realize it was that easy to publicly sell something that requires a prescription. :noidea:

:facepalm:The one I wondered in, looking for some Vitamin E oil (for cuts and bruises), seemed to be geared to weight-lifting folks looking for quick muscles, with all sorts of pots of dubious-looking powders.

Combined with the creepy oily-haired and ignorant staff, I've never wandered in one again and assumed that they were dealing steroids.

Googling around, there seems to be plenty of open discussion of people getting steroids from GNC. And they seem to be very openly dealing creatine supplements, which NCAA have restricted.

What am I missing here? Seems a pretty odd move to me. Have I mis-judged GNC?

You have completely mis-judged GNC...

Was an employee caught selling illegal steroids at a GNC - reportedly yes. However there was McDonald's employee caught delaing crack, that doesn't make every location and the company crack dealers...

Creatine is completely legal, and legal in many sanctioned weight lifting tours - just because the NCAA bans it, doesn't mean its illegal...

Remember, the IOC has banned psedoephedrine - aka Dayquill or Sudafed etc - that doesn't make them illegal either (I have some in my medicin cabinet)...

GNC has a target on their back because some of their products have been controversial over the years. Mostly things like 'Hydroxycut' etc - but that doesn't mean they're a shady or illegal store...

Funny, SELDANE, an allergy medicin reportedly killed several teenagers by causing irregular heartbeats in healthy children, and actual heart attacks in others - that was sold at Shoppers Drug Mart, doesnt make the Shoppers Drug Mart company "shady" etc... Seldane was a mix of terfenadine plus pseudoephedrine - now the over the counter pills are just pseudoephedrine...

The case was settled - complete with a beautiful "non-disclosure agreement"... I used to drink the stuff (liquid form was the most effective for my allergies) like water...!!!

Thanks Carts.

I didn't feel like responding to the post. I am glad someone did.

Creatine is available all over the place, completely legally. Whether the NCAA restricts it's use among athletes in it's league, is another matter.

Okay, perhaps I have mis-judged GNC, and perhaps they don't sell performance-enhancing drugs after all.

Still, the vibe I got in the one I went into in Scarborough was pretty scuzzy ...

Basically you have to do your research before stepping in that store because I find that it is very difficult to find a knowledgeable clerk that knows any more than what the label tells them and if you read every label they all sound great but aren't. I buy my vitamins/minerals and protein powder and every now and then some buffered creatine when I am lifting but that's about it. Good to see the boys coming to my neck of the woods. May have to drop by to see who shows up.

That right there was your first mistake.....

Nutrition House is much better for these sorts of things and the staff is generally more knowledgable and friendly.

The company I work for makes the packaging for some of the body builder stuff that I imagine might be sold at a GNC. It's pretty scary stuff.

Whenever something says that it contains 1000% of recommended daily intake of something in the nutritional info I take that as nature's way of saying 'do not touch'.
