TFC held scoreless by Wizards

PETER MALLETT

TORONTO — Toronto FC withstood a first half onslaught by the result hungry Kansas City Wizards, maintained their undefeated record at BMO Field and held on for a 0-0 tie in Major League Soccer action on Saturday.
"It was a great performance by the Wizards, they are fighting for their lives as a team right now and deserved the result," said Toronto head coach John Carver. "But for us that one point and tie is still big and may become very important down the stretch in the playoff race."
Toronto improved their record to 5-0-3 at home and 6-4-3 overall and remained in third place in the Eastern Conference.

It's a point TFC will gladly take
Coach Carver: `That might be the difference between a playoff spot and just missing out'

MORGAN CAMPBELL

Ten minutes from the end of Toronto FC's scoreless draw with Kansas City, a few hundred of the 20,293 fans at BMO Field trickled toward the exits.
With K.C. laying back on defence and TFC misfiring on offence, maybe you couldn't blame them.
Later, when Olivier Tebily went down with a leg injury a few more fans headed home. You could see them marching toward the GO station as Laurent Robert lined up a free kick in added time, curling it from 30 yards out toward Danny Dichio, who had slipped behind Kansas City's defence.
Those who left early missed a chance to cheer when Dichio's volley beat K.C. keeper Kevin Hartman, and missed a chance to groan when, seconds later, the referee's assistant raised the flag.

Toronto FC held to goal-less draw by Kansas City

Key points go lacking against East's worst team

Toronto FC lost two precious home points Saturday afternoon thanks to a disappointing 0-0 draw with the Kansas City Wizards.
Toronto, playing the first 65 minutes without its regular lineup, was unable to solve the defence of the Wizards, who hold down last place in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference.
Defender Jim Brennan and midfielders Maurice Edu and Amado Guevara, just back from international duties, did not start the game and once inserted with 30 minutes left were unable to break through.

TFC settles for draw

THE CANADIAN PRESS

TORONTO -- Toronto FC coach John Carver preached the glass-half-full theory to his team after a lacklustre performance in a 0-0 tie against the struggling Kansas City Wizards on Saturday at BMO Field.

When the Major League Soccer season comes to a close, Carver believes the point earned from the draw against the Eastern Conference's worst team might come in handy.

"Sometimes you have a bad day at the office and things don't come through for you," Carver said after Kansas City snapped Toronto's three-game home winning streak. "Be grateful for small mercies and I'm grateful for the point."

TFC tie, but extend home streak

Toronto extend ten-game home unbeaten streak in scoreless tie vs. KC

TORONTO -- Toronto FC extended its home unbeaten streak to 10 games after a 0-0 draw with the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field. Both teams had their share of chances, but never took command of a foul-filled and sometimes listless contest. Though the result stretched K.C.'s winless streak to seven games (0-4-3), it has to be considered somewhat of a moral victory for the Wizards, who became just the third side to leave BMO Field with a point this season. TFC hasn't lost on their home field since Sept. 22, 2007.

Toronto FC manage tough tie

Scoreless tie against Kansas City extends home unbeaten streak to 10

TORONTO -- With a full roster on hand, the best home-field advantage in MLS and a last-place opponent, it looked like it was would be a fairly straightforward path to victory for Toronto FC on Saturday. As so often happens in sport, however, what happened on the pitch was far different that what looks to happen on paper. "I'm really grateful for the point," said Toronto coach John Carver in the wake of his club's 0-0 draw with Kansas City. "That might be the difference between getting into that playoff spot and just missing out. It's games like that where you have to dig out results."

In KC, they're pretty pleased with the point

It's too bad Morgan Campbell's article don't allow comments.
I can't believe Carver is saying that he is pleased with the point.
He should be apologizing to the fans for yesterday's blunder and promise to not make such rookie mistakes by leaving the engine of the team " Guevara " in the bench.
We are giving Carver all the support he could ask for, but he shouldn't lose points easily like that to satisfy his BS policy (win games and you will keep the shirt).
Just a side note to see that managers play their best players. Houston last night started Onstad even if the night before he played the full 90 with CMNT.
