When Maple Leaf Sports + Entertainment’s Bob Hunter popped by Suite 17 at BMO Field Wednesday night, I jokingly asked MLSE’s executive vice-president, venues and entertainment, if I could get a photo of him taking a big divot out of his beloved soccer field at the conclusion of the Toronto FC–Vancouver Whitecaps match. Bill Searle, co-owner of Otter Creek GC (http://scoregolf.com/Otter-Creek-Golf-Club-Otterville-Ontario-canada) and the president of Campbellville’s NGF Golf/North Gate Farms put me up to the prank.

“Oh, I never take a divot,” Hunter laughed as we shook hands. “I always pick my shots clean — especially if I was hitting a shot out there for you. No divots.”

Interesting article. I thought when Joseph Nani slipped early in the game that we were going have problems but not so. Considering the volume of water that landed on the pitch during the game there was never any standing water and the turf did not cut up at all. Can you imagine that game on last seasons field turf. It would have been a farce.

^^ I was thinking that at the time too. The ball would have been skipping and sliding around as if on ice last year.

MLSE deserve congratulations for getting this right. It just seems to be something historically that teams screw up despite best intentions.

It was a good article until they referred to the team solely as "FC"...irritates me to the core.

There's Whitecaps FC, there's FC Edmonton and Toronto FC in Canada alone.

Then there's FC Dallas, and Sounders FC in MLS...
