View Full Version : A REAL reason to be upset...

Did anyone else hear the BMO Field announcer call the team "FC"?

Ok...I have let go of my intense hatred for media who use "FC". They are ignorant. I excuse them for being hockey-loving newbies.

But our OWN announcer?

Can someone get Paul Bierne on the phone and have him smack that announcer around a little?

I almost spilled my beer when I heard it.

I am MUCH more upset about that, than I am about the draw. LOL!

I think any mention of our team on the loud speaker should be "Toronto"... and that's all.

I also hate the "J-J-Jim Brennan" bullshit, stuttering is NOT necessary for any announcing, ever.

But yes, I noticed and yelled out "TFC!!!" when he said it.

I know you have some pull with those people...

as far as I'm concerned BMO Field (the stadium not Marc) gets a F on all fronts today...

From the announcer, to security, to game ops, it was absolutely one of the worst game day experiences to date

I'm consistently amazed that security at Gate 3 is confused about flag rules EVERY game. I had to go through THREE security people today before someone explained to them that supporter section is allowed flags.

I had the same problem today at gate 1... the guy didn't comprehend that flags are allowed in 127... and last week too, some baboon of a security guard stopped me after i came into the gates and told me to take it to guest services... idiot, the baboon didn't think that if the people at the gate let me in with it, obviously I'm allowed to have it

I know you're not referring to me, but you could be, as I applied for it too.

Not even a phone call. No interview. Nothing.

I've got the voice for this shit, and I know the game, and I don't stutter (C-C-C-Carl Robinson).

Stupid announcer, them pumping in "Seven Nation Army" before the game, them with their idiotic Jack Astors half time thing, the police escorting game op bitch to check tickets... Who knows, next those small screens to the sides of the scoreboard will be telling us what and when to chant, with video of a pair of clapping hands...

haha reading the thread i just remembered the stuttering, so dumb! I was a bit tipsy going into BMO i must admit but at first i though the guy actually had a slip and stuttered, then the next time i heard it, i knew he was doing it on purpose. That is just so stupid! How does he sleep at night? Probably with a smug grin thinking hes oh so cool i would assume. J-J-J-Jackass!

When ever I hear the stutter, the only thing I can think of is 'J-J-J-Jamin'
That shit might fly at the Raps game, because the overall level of cheese
is much higher down at the ACC, but it really doesn't cut it at BMO.

as for people calling it 'The FC', I don't really care anymore.

It's like seeing some chic in a Motley Crue t-shirt
but she can't name any of their albums. They want to be down,
but clearly they just don't know that you have to do some homework.

I'm not a MLSE apologist. Far from it. Still they do/did a good job of filling the seats with people that wouldn't normally call themselves soccer fans.

So us "seasoned" supporters might find this shtick insulting and aggravating...but who's to say the people with seats in the middle of the field don't like it? Without those people we'd be like the rest of the MLS...supporters filling the end sections and a smattering of families in the middle of the field.

I think it's great we voice our displeasure and stay on MLSE to make sure they don't bastardize the game experience totally into something from the ACC...but at the same time it's egocentric to assume everything they do is catered to the supporters.

I sit in the middle of the field, in expensive seats, and I can honestly say that I don't like it as a "fan" (as opposed to a supporter).

You've got a very valid point that TFC can't cater strictly to the south end supporters,
as it takes a whole collection of different people to fill a stadium,
but I always saw TFC as the classy sporting event in the city.
We don't need t-shirt cannons, or a free slice of pizza with 100 points scored.
We are there to watch the game we love, and the extra trappings aren't required.
I think there are common fans who see it that way too.

I agree with you 100%. My preference is to keep that crap out of BMO.

I do wonder though, if having sell outs is worth the trade off of letting MLSE screw around with Halftime. I mean halftime we're all lining up for beers/bathroom or gone for smokes, or having a sit down to rest up for the 2nd half. It's not like we're really giving anything up.
I'd also like to think the game as is, is insulated from the crap you see at North American sporting events because of the lack of stoppages.

I've been to college football games and NFL games where the official with the orange oven mitts (the tv time out guy) gets booed when he steps on the field. Luckily we don't have that problem and never will.

According to the "map" of BMO, 127 isn't a supporter section. The south end is designated "supporter" and not all the staff are up to speed on the growth of supporters section to include 126/127. They're learning, slowly...

The great thing about 127 is that its much easier to sneak into than the supporters end.

Again, let me say that I applied for the job and was never called, never emailed back, never contacted in any way, shape or form...

I KNOW, for a FACT, that I would be at least 10 times better than the guy doing it now. That's not me being cocky...that's me knowing I have a good voice for it, coupled with a strong knowledge of the game.

Why wasn't I contacted? Probably because I have zero experience in doing this at a professional level. Probably because my cover letter didn't say I want to be the next Herbie Kuhn or Andy Frost. Probably because I've never voiced a commercial for Monster Jam or UFC.

I'm not bitter...just disappointed knowing that I'd be great at it, and instead they went for your typical "SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!!" garbage.
