Vancouver Shitecaps at Toronto "We Are The Champions" FC

It is going to be very interesting on this night, knowing the Voyagers Cup is waiting in the wings for the Reds once the clock strikes "90".

With everything sewn up for the Reds I am sure we are all expecting and very much want most of the first teamers to have a night off and enjoy their overall victory. I am sure DeRo, JDG, Frei and company will enjoy it for all its worth knowing they have KC on Saturday to wrap everything up before the World Cup break.

As Paul Beirne revealed last week we are expecting a selection of kinds
from the Academy to be brought up for this game, which from my view will make this game worth watching, it will be interesting to see who from the CSL side will be deemed worth of such an honour, but that will be up to the coaches to decide. I guess it will also depend on how the CSA reacts to this idea and then getting an idea from the NCAA on if this would effect the kids abilities to go down south in the future.

If the use of Academy kids is allowed the lineup could look a little something like this, with a few more on the bench.

Gargan--Henry*--Garcia-Hscanovics
Peterson--Nane--Sanyang----Gala

It'll be nice to get a few minutes for Harden as well.

I'm wondering what people anticipate the result will be.. I'm actually thinking 1-2 Whitecaps

Yes, Harden should get a run out, ditto for Ibby...I'm saying it'll be a 1-1 draw.

I'm excited to see the academy players. I think Matheson, Henry, and Morgan would fit in well. I think maybe they should go with Kocic in goal. I'm hoping we get some details on the TFC websites about the specifics that are allowing the academy players to play, in regards to NCAA eligibility, etc.

Not sure that I would start Matheson and Ibby. I'd try to go some experience in forward line, maybe Barrett and Matheson.

^ Maybe. He did look a little out of gas at time in San Jose. I just think Ibby and a academy player would be a poor pairing. I'm excited to see the academy players play with the big team, but I'm still hoping for a competitive and well played game.

I wonder what kind of lineup the Whitecaps will field. I'm guessing a number of their residency players will see the field too.

Who is Camargo, he is not listed on the academy roster on the website, good to see Stinson and Henry getting a look, two recent callups to the national U20 team. Should be a fun night all around, a glimpse of the future and the celebration of the present when the trophy is presented post-game.

I'm wondering what shirt numbers will be issued to the Academy players. If I were manager, I'd issue numbers all in the 50s (or 40s or 60s or whatever). Because they can't wear shirt numbers that other players on the senior team already have and that way, a number in the 50s is kind of like a provisional badge/probationary status and a reminder to continue working hard because they haven't made it to the big club yet. They have to "earn" a "real" number.

What do you all think of the "in stands" trophy presentation?

I know in the UK they do it because the "royals" are up there and present the trophy with the directors etc.

But what about a presentation in the south stands at BMO?

I think the accessability seats in the middle either at the front of 115 or at the back in the accessability seats of 115 would look awesome.

thoughts?

Yes, Stinson is the TFC-A's captain, and a recent callup to Canada's U-20 national team, I would not be surprised by him being rested when you consider the little Reds also have a CSL league game on Sunday night against the Shooters.

I really don't see the difference at all. Either way, they're just using numbers that aren't being worn by Toronto FC players. 45 and 55 are just as much a number as 36...

The point was that though they're with the first team, they haven't made it yet and a special range of non-traditional footballing numbers assigned to them would be a reminder to keep working hard. It's like how there was (or still is?) two different locker rooms, one for the first team squad and one for the reserves. Gives an incentive.

Dunno about the small and medium, but the large is just under $14. A large lasts almost a half and then the beer guy walking in the stands will sell a can of Carlsberg to you if you need it to get through to the end of added time.

The real trick is getting to the pisser AND getting through the beer line again before the second half starts - at the start of the second half you can only buy medium and small beers. :(

I find it funny when in the email blast TFC just out they mentioned this could be the first time someone from the Academy could play with the big club for the first tim, one, which is not correct, one player suited up for TFC-A before making his MLS debut, who is he you ask?

Really depends on the way you look at it. He was never signed to be a member of the academy, he was signed to be on the first team but was unable to join them until his 18th birthday, plus if I'm not mistaken he never played with the first team during his tenure with the academy. This is new in the fact that these kids are academy players with no deals in place for the forseeable future.

Wow... This just proves that Toronto sports fans are shit...

Its a meaningless game. The academy players were brought in so our starters dont have to play. If the first team was sent out, there would be whining about that. There is seriously no pleasing anyone in this town...

Where does this post come from? I haven't seen anybody whining in this thread?

that davenport post, about how people paid to watch this garbage. What is expected from a reserves match.

Oh, I didn't get whether he was talking about this game or the hockey game since he quoted the hockey game.

Either way, it's only one guy ;). There's lots of us who are happy to see the academy team get a run. If I didn't wake up with a kidney stone you bet I'd be at the game right now.

I'm glad I got to see some of the kids get a run out on the pitch. Feels good to watch a game with no pressure whatsoever, because we know we've already wrapped things up.

Quality of the game has been suspect, but I expected that. It's a bunch of MLS academy players - meaning players not considered good enough for MLS yet, if ever. think about that sentence for a second. :D

Anyone know why Stinson didn't get a run? I was looking forward to seeing him play.

It's unbelievable how hidden the Sportsnet.ca Live Stream is. If you didn't know they were doing it you would never be able to find it by checking Sportsnet.ca.

Yep, that's Davenport.

If he won a million dollars in the lottery, he'd complain that it wasn't two.

Hidden? I looked under soccer and, poof, magically there it was.

As for Lindsay, he did well. He had to get in that position in the first place, which was good judgment on the deflected ball, and he absolutely schooled thebig Georgian fullback a couple of times.

It wasn't meant at the kids, there were only a few of them, but the gerebral quality of play.
The kids don't look good enough. I know, I know, first game nerves etc....but they really don't look good players.

Probably because they were forced to eat up a substitution with Nane going out so early (so unlucky, that).

Hidden? I looked under soccer and, poof, magically there it was.

You've got a live stream of a Toronto team playing a Canadian team in a National tournament and the only way to find it is to go to "Soccer"? And then in a subcategory of its own below-the-fold through a link marked "Watch all games here"? That's hidden. Zero mention that the game is live right now!

If it's not in the flash of the top five stories of the day, then at the very least it should be featured in the "What's On" box down the side. The actual live stream has zero homepage presence and zero presence in the Soccer subcategory which is a serious oversight in my opinion.

well, since there wasnt a match thread and there doesn't appear to be a post-match thread, congrats to the boys (especially the youngsters) for getting a run out and raising a trophy.

For the first time, I'm actually looking forward to seeing how people have the ratings of the squad tonight (specifically of the Academy players)

I have to agree. I found out about the stream on their site only because someone posted it here a month or so back. Congrats to the kids that got called up and to the team for winning the trophy. :scarf:

so what's Vancouver's excuse now? down a man? rain?
I can hear Tater Tots now: "We was very close... we should be proud of a 0-0 tie against an MLS team on the road."
