I watched the game on RDS and my impression was that Montreal was trying for an all out win....and they almost got it a few times. I won't go as far as saying they were trying to do us a favour (just did though) but I think it was more that Van is their big rival and they didn't want them to win it....my view anyway.

Agreed. I was pleasantly surprised with Montreal's starting lineup last night, they outplayed Vancouver thoroughly, and were deserving of a victory. It was obvious that the Impact were on a mission to eliminate the Whitecaps as opposed to to resting their key players. Montreal was even killing the clock in extra time by playing the ball out of bounds just to ensure the draw. Merci Montreal!

Well done to Montreal. I'm not going to lie to you, I really thought they'd roll over just to spite us.

truth be told.... they hate vancouver just as much as us, and after all the accusatory remarks from them last year (about rolling over for us), I could see them sticking it to them instead of us. Plus their USL rivalry goes back way deeper than anything either team has with us.

watching them play 'deadball in the corner' was amazing - they really wanted to fight for that draw.

The Montreal head coach did say something to that effect, it's true.

By the time all 3 teams will be in MLS, this tournament will have real significance and intensity.

Like everything, the initial babysteps at the beginning are leading to bigger and better things. Which is why I never subscribed to the idea that this tournament should be dismissed as "irrelevant".

Vancouver is like Montreal's little brother... always getting pushed around.. haha. Vancouver now hasn't beaten Montreal in over a year.... when they were pissed at Montreal last year, what did they do in the following game? Lose. Then last night they had to win against a team out of the tourney. what did they do? Tie. Suckers.

My friend played with the Impact in the early 90's and he said that without a doubt, the Montreal-Vancouver rivalry is bigger to Montreal.

Really? I thought it was sure that we had the opening leg . . .It is. CONCACAF announced this last week in their press release - http://www.concacaf.com/page/CL/NewsDetail/0,,12813~2055806,00.html

Whichever media said this is incorrect.

BTW, the Vancouver coach and others are whining in the media, about Montreal's time wasting. Montreal should have gone for the win & 2nd place in the tournament, until the end of the game.... WTF???!!!

Man, that BC Okanagan whine would go well with the Quebec cheese we've been hearing throughout the tournament from Dos Santos. (Although last night he didn't complain about anything for a change.) Sure the Impact fought for the tie with a bit of wasted time. Simply the mark of a professional team that has done enough -- in this case, compete & knock out their league rivals. But Montreal also contended for the win, including a couple of golden chances near the end.

On the time wasting note...,the Impact keeper probably should have been sent off after he got yellowed for time wasting on a goal kick....he played with the ball another 50-60 seconds AFTER the card before kicking it...he readjusted the ball 5 times...I thought it was hilarious!

Actually, I blieve the keeper was positioning the ball as per the linesman who was positioned with his flag as if offside. The refereee instructed the keeper to move it and he did as to line up with the refereee's assistant before finally declaring a goal kick and then yellow carding the keeper. Silly stuff.

Djekanovic was a tad slow though to be honest.

I think Djekanovic misses playing for TFC and did us a favour....unofficial anyway

^ There was definitely some confusion between ref & assistant on that one, and Djekanovic milked it for all of it's worth.

Maybe he figured, it's kinda like I just got a parking ticket, they can't give me another ticket right away... ;)

yeah, I agree. And good teams don't put themselves into such positions. This season and last, Vancouver has not "put away" the tournament so that little things like time wasting or goal differential actually matter.

I mean, all they had to do was win that home game against Montreal and they'd still be in the hunt for the championship.

TFC did what better teams do: don't leave your fate to someone else. Carpe Diem!

If you can't win at least 1 of your home games, don't be whining about time wasting in a tied road game.
