Newsworthy: Sir Alex wont be playing Man U stars in Toronto or against MLS All-Stars

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/story/_/id/5199544/ce/us/manchester-united-manager-alex-ferguson-thinks-us-reach-world-cup-second-round?cc=5901&ver=us

Ferguson did think Premier League players will have a harder time at the tournament because they're exhausted after the long season, which for many included high-pressure matches in the Champions League and the Europa League.
That's why he'll give Manchester United players at the World Cup four weeks off after their national teams finish playing. That means Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Nani, Park Ji-sung and Michael Carrick are likely to miss much or all of the North American tour.
It includes games against Glasgow Celtic (July 16 at Toronto), at the Philadelphia Union (July 21) and at the Kansas City Wizards (July 25), plus the MLS All-Star Game at Houston (July 28).

Contract, "Pre" Contract, nothing yet ... if it comes together, Henry to MLS, more specifically to NEW YORK - and whether or not he succeeds, not just on the field but most importantly (well, when I'm wearing my $uit anyhow) as a draw, becomes a barometer for where soccer is in NA now.

So, with DeGuzman's hamstring issue, does he still get released to the MNT for the friendly or does he stay here?

From the 'Caps news release on tonight's game:

As big a task as it seems, the 'Caps know it is very much possible for them to turn the tide in this competition. Last year, Vancouver bounced back from an away defeat in Toronto to roll off three straight victories and apply huge pressure on TFC to overcome their superior goal difference in the tournament's final match. Remarkably, and much to the disbelief of all Whitecaps faithful, the MLS club's 6-1 victory at Montreal saw the Canadian Championship cruelly slip from the hands of the Whitecaps.

WHITECAPS FC
While a second-straight 0-0 draw at home on Saturday may have highlighted the Whitecaps struggles in front of goal, fans will have been encouraged by an improved performance in their first USSF D-2 Pro League meeting with Montreal. With some key players being rested for Wednesday's big match, Thordarson was pleased to see his weekend line-up battle well against a near full-strength Impact squad.
The sense of urgency and work rate that was seen on Saturday restricted Montreal from being able to dictate the pace of the match with their ball possession qualities. It will be those same attributes that the Whitecaps will need to apply, if they are to continue the club's favourable all-time record against TFC. Fans should expect the return of some experienced faces to the Vancouver line-up this week, even though there were many positive displays versus Montreal.
Whitecaps captain Martin Nash is questionable for Wednesday's match with a back problem. The club are still without defender/midfielder Blake Wagner, who remains sidelined with a strain in his foot, and long-term casualty Mouloud Akloul, who continues his recovery from a fractured ankle. Goalkeeper Dan Pelc is also sidelined with a gluteus maximus injury. Youngster Ethan Gage, meanwhile, in the Netherlands for a 12-day camp with the Canadian U-20 national team.

Boy that Luke Wileman really takes us in deep with his farticles.

Tomorrow, when the players walk on the pitch, is it left-right-left or right-left-right?

I work with JDG's Step brother here. . . . He will not feature at Vancouver, and will NOT be going to Argentina.

"Now, this season, TFC could wrap-up the tourney at just past the halfway point. Ugly."

Who gives a shit. . . . CSA shoudl want its flagship, premeir club to hoist the trophy and get on with its HIGH level season of fixtures in hopes of featuring in the MLS cup final. . which canada is hosting.

Bollocks to MTL and VAn city. . when they are in the broadcast revenue circle.. then MAYBE we shoudl care. . . but now. . we dont.

As a Canada supporter, that would tick me off.

If he's healthy enough to play for TFC, he should be healthy enough to play for Canada against Argentina. And I won't buy the excuse about flying all the way to Buenos Aires being a factor.

Honestly, I can't stand this Steve sandor article.

TFC win might not be good thing (http://www.torontosun.com/sports/soccer/2010/05/18/14000781.html)

it's the northamerican way of thinking. Let's play 11 tournaments with the same teams over and over again eliminating 1 team at a time, giving everyone a chance until one team finally comes out the winner. This guy is proposing a playoff game for a 3 team round robin tournament? IDIOT!

EPL, Seria A, La Liga and everyone else in the world (well ok not everyone) all run the risk that the season is over way before the last day of matches. So be it, that's life. We already have enough games in the season. We don't need a 3 team cup tournament turning into the typical playoff debacle.

Well this is the last year of the round robin format anyway, isn't it? Once FC Edmonton get in there'll be a new format.

But why bring up "the north American way of thinking," this is an elimination tournament to get into an elimination tournament. The Champions League is "a typical playoff," format with the winner decided on the last day in a Championship Game. That way of thinking is not unique to North America.

That's too bad for JDG and for the team. With him, they can put up a fight, but without him they are lacking in the middle of the pitch. Not to mention, it's a great opportunity to play in front of 80,000 people again.

This is great to hear because if he's only going to play for one more season, it'll be much harder to justify bringing him down here. I hope they let the horse out to pasture already and move on.

Its tough to fault the keeper when the dead-on 45 yard free kick hits the top corner perfectly.

Faaaakkkk!!!! I don't have digital. Well, the news release says Saturday games and weeknight matches, that still leaves the Sunday games. Since the Score has dropped the EPL and moved on the Serie A next year, does anyone know if Sportsnet has bought the Sunday EPL package?
