again the Labrocca / BArrett understanding was teh difference. . .

excellent take down - deke - and shot from BArret. . .

I LOVE that preki makes changes at the half, a total change in formation saw us open up their middle. . I hoep he makes a habit of it. . it keeps teh opposition guessing when a new formation / players come out of the tunnel and take the field.

tactical win, good performance from usanov and Frei. . I hoep we joined in on the rioting and trouble!

As a news side note: I hope the press rips those Montreal Canadians fans a new one for the bullshit they pulled in downtown Montreal last night.

Cops hurt, tear gas and looting. If the word "soccer" appeared in any article with that story there would be fucking public hangings. So let's see how it's handled when it's hockey and oh ya! they didn't even fucking win anything yet. Get a grip you bunch of animals.

So when hockey fans loot and misbehave, we just chuckle and charitably overlook it.

If that were soccer fans last night the sport would be getting ripped big time.

Yup, there definitely seems to be a double standard as far as tolerance.

Why can't Montrealers party without causing a riot? I've partied downtown several times in T.O. for the Jays and the Leafs and there were never any incidents...

I don't know, it's really quite an odd mentality to me. I mean, though I'm not predisposed to rioting myself, I can understand doing it if bad shit happens, like the government decides to shut down all hospitals and kill all the babies in them or some such. I just don't understand the "Hey guys! Our team just won a hockey game! I'm so happy I need to BURN THE FUCKING CITY DOWN AND STEAL SHIT!"

Quit bitching, the news covers the Habs fans riots more than they'd ever cover soccer fan riots. Christ, do you not remember when the Habs got eliminated a couple years ago? It was all over the news, as it is right now.

It just so happens that soccer has a stigma of that (and a fair one, given some of the events that have happened in soccer history) while in hockey, it only really happens with Canadiens fans. And they still get tons of negative press.

I've worked in the press for 20 years. The difference is significant: last night, they blamed on fans. If it had been at a tFC game, they would've at least partially blamed the SPORT. Why? Because most hockey loving Canadian sportswriters -- at least the ones I've met, and that's a hell of a lot -- hate soccer.

In every newsroom, there's maybe one or two sportos who like it. THe rest dump on it the way they dump on everything they don't like.

Vancouver fans tore up the downtown after the Canucks lost the Cup final in 1994, so it's not just Habs fans in this country.

And there is a blatant double standard between both hockey and soccer in this country. Remember the press going apeshit on TFC supporters when some assclown threw part of a bannister in Columbus.

And there's nothing a paper bag over the head won't fix for that SSG. :ack2:

"good performance from usanov"?????? LOL! Were we watching the same game?

he was like a pylon wearing a red shirt....if he doesn't manage to hack them down when they blow by him....You could tell Preki has seen enough of him...and hopefully Garcia....play Cronin or Gargan there until a suitable replacement is found....
