EXPANSION: Philadelphia Stadium News, etc. (http://www.mls-rumors.net/2008/06/expansion-philadelphia-stadium-news-etc.html)

Highlights from the ever-inspiring Sons of Ben chat with Nick Sakiewicz on Jun 16, 2008 (see full transcript here (http://www.sonsofben.net/Home/Entries/2008/6/19_Meet_the_Owners_Chat:_Nick_Sakiewicz_061908.htm l)):

Stadium:
-Planning electronic signage
-Architect of the stadium is Rossetti Architects (Home Depot, Toyota Park, Real Salt Lake). We will build a scale model for our sales center to be located at the site.
-A pub in (or near) the stadium is in development.
-Images/sketches of the stadium will be released in a couple of months
-Ticket sales will have some cap to balance sold out stadiums versus creating high demand, but the level of the cap is uncertain since Philly is only building 18,500 seats initially and they are already 25% accounted for with almost 2 years to go.
-Naming rights to the stadium will be sold.
-Will look to run shuttles from the two train platforms in Chester.
-Stadium will also be used for music concerts and other sporting events. Already have 40 events for 2010.
-Hope to have a broadcaster as well as some stations lined up by the end of this summer.

Coaches and Staff:
-Technical Director Jan 1 and then within 6-8 month depending on the candidate and availability we’ll bring the head coach.
-Tech Director responsibilities will be 1) win championships, 2) recuiting, and 3) player development (in that order)
-Will reach out to USL, PDL, NSPL leagues and would expect technical staff to work with them to form alliances to help each other out. Have not reached out to them yet. It's still too early

Players:
-Focus on depth on the bench
-Youth is the cornerstone of everything Philly will do. Nick developed the first youth program in MLS back in 2000 and generated Rodrigo Faria (MLS rookie of the year), Gabriel Ferrari (Sampdoria). Tim Howard (Man U), and many college scholarship and pro players. It is the future and the only way to go for Philly.

Team:
-a 2-way attacking brand of football. ATTACK the goal when we have the ball and ATTACK the opposing team to get the ball when we don't have it. I'd like to see a very fit team that runs off the ball and works hard all game
-Team name will not be a copy of others. It will be traditional, authentic and something that relates to the Philly area.
-Haven't talked to ex-Philly native and now New England Revolution player, Jeff Larentowicz, about playing for the Philly team.
-Will go to WIN the US Cup every season. No short shrift for the US Open Cup.

MLS:
-To improve the current "Reserve" Division in MLS, MLS needs the reserve division to play more quality games and have the right balance of training with games. Year round program with training everyday
-Italian Cup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coppa_Italia) may be played in NY or Philly.

i like the pub near the ground thing.

some good things in there
