I was impressed with the play of Emmanuel Gomez at the end of last year and was looking forward to him getting more playing time this year. What is the status of his injury and when is he expected back.

Last I heard he had a hairline or spiral fracture in his leg I believe....

He claimed to be in light training after off season surgery. Dont expect him until late summer.

Gomez has a "right knee osteochondral injury" which (AFAIK) means that the cartilage covering the end of a bone in the knee is torn. "The fracture creates bone or cartilage fragments that can range in size and in depth." You want to be extra careful with this type of injury, because it can lead to the development of osteoarthritis.

God I hate joint injuries, they make me feel ill...

Same here. I was cringing reading your post. Too bad for Gomez - seems like it'll be a long way back. I wish him luck.

Fuck. Didn't realize it was this serious. Hopefully the club take care of him and he can make it back next year.

The dude is walking around...with no limp or anything.

He may be back before the end of the season. I hope he is, he is good depth at CB now and likely a starter in a year or two if Cann retires or Nana goes to a higher level of play overseas.

I chat with Gomez pretty frequently... he's doing alright but he's not ready to play. I've repeatedly asked him when he is returning to the pitch and he said he can't give it a specific time line because some days he feels great and others he doesn't. I also talk to Sanyang and he's telling me Gomez should be back very soon... apparently for this season.

He was with the team at the 90th Minute Party, but I have no idea about his status for next year.

He was protected in the expansion draft, was he not?

He was protected, so the club must have hopes of him returning next season. I hope he does, as well as Sanyang, I really like the pair of them and think they have a really bright future. They're both only what? 19? 20?

I just remember him cool as a cucumber with the ball in our area, and two guys pressing him. Kinda scary calm too, haven't seen his full potential. We'll see.

Mostly. A little cavalier with his distribution and playing with the ball under pressure, although he's pulled it off each time with considerable aplomb.

Gomez impressed me. Isn't always the prettiest, but he seems to find seams easily, rarely gets stripped.

Looking forward to seeing him this season.
