Media coverage for this team is definitely growing up.

Nice to read a good piece focused on the opposition for an upcoming game.

It's going to be a tough match for TFC tomorrow despite the fact that RSL has won only 1 of their first 5 matches. With TFC playing on two days rest, at that altitude, against a side that will be very motivated, I'll be satisfied with a draw...

on their boards it mentions that there might be a few rugby games played at rio tinto right before our game.....so the field might be a bit worn and there might be lines on the field...i guess we will see

Ouch. After a snowstorm in SLC yesterday, and cold weather now preventing it from drying very quickly, I can't see the rugby game being very good to the pitch before the TFC game...

I'm getting fed up with Paul James.

Does he ever slag off Vancouver? And his implication that last year's team was technically better than this year's just shows how thick he really is. We had players last year with more skill, but that doesn't guarantee that a team is technically better.

Can Vancouver come into the league already so he can fuck off from whence he came?

Dobro jutro.

Jutro. Zelo lep dan, a ni?

With regards to TFC going to RSL, I know that altitude takes a physical effect on the body, but isn't it more psychological (ie: having the mentality that you're not going to perform all that well due to altitude)?

I don't really like it but James is accurate in his assessment of this team. TFC work hard and seem to be getting committed to a system which is fine with me if the results come. But James is right whe. He says that we don't have a whole lot of technical skill and it doesn't look pretty most of the time.

it's nice to know that the MLS wants to push for the CCL
we're light years behind mexico though.
how hard is it to go 'oh well they've got this massive youth, academy, reserve that they have' though really?
i'm not expecting any MLS team to have a chance of winning the CCL for a good ten years. don't get me wrong, i'll be THRILLED if we win it.
but it is damn nice to know that the MLS is finally starting to take that tourny seriously.

Hard to think positively about MLS the same week Champions League games are on?

Steve Sandor's scene-setter another good piece by him.

I have found Paul James to be very unwilling to let go of his personal preferences and biases when writing. I respect his knowledge and experience but I see more and more why he's had run-ins and conflict with the various areas of soccer in North America.

Yet DC United has already won it (once).

In a Cup competition, anything can happen. Is it likely an MLS side will win? No, but anything can happen.

Whitecaps' temp stadium that they'll use in MLS for a couple months is going up...

http://theoffsiderules.blogspot.com/2010/04/whitecaps-foster-home-coming-along.html

The article says the Caps are negotiating to play in the renovated BC Place stadium for 15 extra years.. wow... guess there goes the SSS idea.

Both stadiums will be fake grass.
They need to move that stadium project along for a real home with real natural grass.

LOL.

Well one thing we can be happy about is there is a system in place. It will take a few seasons for them to be able to add players who can play the system and be technically better. If they can upgrade a couple of players a season, things will be ok. Right now we just have to deal with it.

Now, god forbid if Mo is still at the helm next draft, he will, if he is smart find better technical players that can fit the system. Easier said than done though.

As long as Preki is in charge and chooses the players, I think we don't have too much to worry about.

Can't. Basically the city of Vancouver is not budging on the Waterfront deal. Even though the Whitecaps want to pay for the land and pay for the SSS.

Not for now. As would naturally be the case, the focus is on this temp stadium and the renewed BC Place. Give it a couple of years and the focus should take a natural progression to a SSS for the Whitecaps. Things take time to play out. Look at our stadium and the natural grass saga as an example.

For whatever reason something about the SSG's face suggests to me she's not going to age very gracefully.

Re Paul James: Gargan & Cronin a 4??? Compared with Garcia a 5 and "without any errors"???

He's right about Sammy, he had a horrid game. I'd have given Gargan a 5 or a 5.5, as he had some positive influence, despite a few bad giveaways.

Garcia had one muffed backpass and then was knocked out (again, holy glass chin, Batman!), but I'd say a 5 is fair.

Maybe we have all lowered our expectations regarding Garcia to the point that a passable performance scores well.
I think he is just in one of those bad patches where he is off his game and luck is eluding him. He will bounce back.

That propped grandstand reminds me of Empire and to some degree Exhibition.

There is no doubt that James seems to have an axe to grind, but the constant negative comments are not going to help.We are what we are.A MLS team that is not pretty to watch alot of times, but we are the only team in Canada right now.The team seems to be getting better and our defence is doing much better. We still have alot of areas we need to improve on,but let`s start writing something positive on a more consistant basis.

Hopefuly, there's an escape clause in the lease for whenever the Whitecaps can build their own downtown stadium.

I must have been watching a different game. I thought Cronin was solid in midfield. He was always available for the pass and worked very hard linking up with JDG. The bad tackle was out of character. Maybe he's trying to prove he can be a replacement for Saric!

He's yet to look like he did last year (yet) BUT it was Cronin's corner that gave us the first goal. That's more than we can say for LaBrocca who's had more chances.

A bit of a late pass, but some thoughts post TKO and how things are shaping up:
