View Full Version : The Campaign For Veal Sandwiches @ BMO

love the mighty chip butty. The pizza and hot dogs still reign. The Smokes truck outside is a huge addition, but there's something missing.

I realized it last night just off College street on Clinton when I walked into San Franceso's sandwich shop.

Italian sandwiches at BMO would be epic. San Frans or California could easily make this happen. What a half-time it could be!

Thoughts? Paul? Let's do this!

Hook me up with a California's Veal sandwich, or Burrito Boys Burrito (hold the fish), but wonton noodle soup? Really?....Really? Sorry but the when I think food at a sporting event, the last thing I think of is soup of any kind. Plus I usually look for something to help balance out the alcohol consumption.

San Francesco Veal Sang-wiches. Made from genuine, vegetarian cows.

Ya happy now?

Medium veal with cheese. Has a whole, chopped, but not slapped, hot pepper and tomato sauce. Meat and veggies right there. On a soft, fresh, chewy bun with a crispy, crumbly crust. Dat an' a Brio.

There's four of your five basic food groups covered in one go. And we haven't come close to discussing the pure eating pleasure of one of these babies. You won't need a napkin. You'll need a cockrag.

Get it done.

This topic reminds me of when the Skydome first opened.
The media was abuzz speculating as to what kind of food and how to showcase the foods of Toronto in this "World Class Facility".
The words Panini, Shawarma, Souvlaki etc. were used by the media, made the whole city drool.
What did they do, they gave the whole operation to McDonalds!
Less than a month after they opened they got the city to ban all the hotdog carts from within spitting distance of skydome property, I wonder why. :picard:

Best food right now at BMO in my opinion is the Mr. Greek stand.

stugautz
04-25-2010, 09:16 AM
Love the call on veals for two reasons:

1) They are the most awesome sandwhich out there.
2) Tomato sauce is red. So our our jerseys. Should sauce spill on ourselves (which is inevitable if you try to eat a veal from California's standing up) it won't be noticeable.

Shawarma would be awesome too. They already do chicken pita's so it won't be much of a stretch.

At BMO they could have a stack of them ready to go at halftime.

Sweet veal - bang
medium veal - bang

They could knock em out so fast people's heads would spin.

Now, I don't like olives, but if they had those on sale as well (little container for $2) I'm sure some people would go nuts (and hey, it's healthier than fries right?).

Ya, you gotta keep it simple.
I have a great idea for a tailgate.
Buy a couple of tons of potatoes.
Get a hundred monkeys or so to chip them and toss them in Lake Ontario.
Sink an oil tanker just off shore.
One match and it's fish and chips for everyone!

Also yes to:
Samosas
Shwarma/Falafel (preferably without the oil, it's gonna be messy enough anyways)
Philly Cheese Steak (with a new name so we don't have to credit Philly. Hog Town Hoagies or something)
and... well, anything else delicious and hand held. Though a veal sandwich or shwarma+ 3-4 (or more) beers + 2 hours of jumping/singing in the sun = uhoh. The bathrooms at BMO would have to be fumigated after every game

I've never understood why some people like Californa Sandwiches better.

San frans has the nice thin slices of veal with a light dusting of the breading. That is so much better than the heavily breaded single cutlet from Cali.

I also love that San Frans is a tiny little space, no seating, no nothing.

BTW - next time you're there, buy one of their in house made sausages...really great.

Agreed.

San Francesco, hands down!

If you like veal sandwiches so much, then surely BMO is the last place you'd want to eat one. They'd make a balls of them, just like everything else on offer there.

Thanks for the tip, definitely will.

And for my money, while the veal itself was better, it was the sauce that made San Frans so much better. And the less heavy bun. After a whole Cali sandwich I feel gross (generally only eat half at a time). San Frans I finished and wanted another still haha

sounds like californias uses a thick cutlet , while san frans uses scallopini.(thin sliced veal)

i eat veal 3-4 times a month and on a sandwich, scallopini is far better as you get three thin breaded pieces opposed to a tough cutlet that generally needs cuttting with a knife.

the sauce is so key too!!!

cheese is either provo or mozza

good point.

They'd probably only have chicken at first and tell us "we're looking for the right veal for the sandwich, you need to be patient. At the moment we're looking at one or two veal providers, we have another one on trial. Be patient though, you'll have the best sandwich in the world soon. You are the best sandwich eaters in MLS and you deserve the best veal".

nice one. And don't forget, the best veal may come from the UK and Europe, but it's usually past it's "sell by" date by the time it gets here.

Never had a veal sandwich in my life time

Do yourself a favour, go downstairs in the st. Lawrence market and get yourself a veal and eggplant with the works....onions, peppers, absolutely huge, almost can share.....

I don't know if veal sandwiches are affordable.
I'm sure that there are certain fees that have to be paid to certain families.

Excuse please!

What is this the galloping gourmet?? I had the best veal sandwich ever at a little place in montreal a couple years ago. Wish I could remember the name of the place..Montreal isn't known just for the smoked meat.

The california veal is thin sliced, but larger pieces. The differnce I think is that california frys as you order and then puts the souce on. San Francesco seems to be pre-fried, and sitting in the souce. I prefer teh california sandwich, but I do think that San Francesco has a better sauce.
