View Full Version : Del Piero considering MLS!!

T.O TILL I DIE

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero (http://www.imscouting.com/players/alessandro-del-piero/) is thinking over a move to MLS side New York Red Bulls, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 35 year-old has spent his entire career at Juventus (http://www.imscouting.com/teams/italy/juventus-fc-torino/) and has played a part this season too, scoring seven goals in 23 games. Del Piero has another year left on his contract, but may opt to end his career in the USA.
Juventus (http://www.imscouting.com/teams/italy/juventus-fc-torino/) are likely to make wholesale changes over the summer and Gazzetta dello Sport speculates that Del Piero would not want to stay and be a burden on the club as it makes the transition.
Del Piero has scored 26 goals in 87 games for the Italy national side.

Maybe TFC can get himm:pbjtime:

Only if he'll work for non DP wages.

Can't see how we can sign another DP and take that kind of cap hit.

But NYRB is the likely destination, sadly.

He should come to Toronto!!! I'd buy 10 shirts... lol

I thought NY were getting Henry?

Or maybe they will have both?

hahaha... that would sell out tickets at Red Bull Arena.

We could use a striker who can actually score goals, though. Although Del Piero's obviously not an out and out striker, he's played a lot of different roles in his career, and it'd finally give us a good excuse to get rid of Chad Barrett. Imagine he and DeRo together? It would be like a knife through the proverbial butter of the opposition defence.

If he came the first banner should be of Wayne and Garth. "We're not worthy!"

Yeah... but... he wants to play/live in NYC and they've got that fancy new stadium... and Henry... and Angel... and a far better team... and it's NYC.

He's never coming here. The big names are going to go to LA or NYC, maybe Seattle, and Miami if/when they finally join. MLS is a way to ride out their careers playing someplace where things are happening. Nothing is really happening in Toronto.

Maybe I'm being stupidly optimistic but if Del Piero, Henry and Raul are all apparently coming over, NY can't get all of them. Right?

raull is reported not going to mls and im sure henry wouldnt come to mls hes still young

but ya NY could get those three but would they have enough money for there salaries i doubt it?

Del Piero has been "considering MLS" since at least 2007.

Hasn't Henry "considered the MLS" for the same time?

These players aren't considering the MLS as a career option, they're considering NYC as a lifestyle option.

The jersey sales alone in Vaughan would pay for his wages and thensome - Mo bring him to Toronto!!!!!!!

Henry isnt that young, hes what 31? 32? Theres been a ton of reports stating hes coming to Ny after the world cup, as for Del Piero, that wouldnt surprise me either, however they do have a top (read: Striker) heavy team right now...

I remember when ex-Juventus legend Roberto Bettaga played for the Blizzard. I'm sure he has given some advice to ADP about what a great city T.O. is and its large Italian community. If it doesn't pan out in NY I think T.O. is his next choice.

This article says it's Addidas that is pushing the idea of DelPiero to NY.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Del Piero said: “Dear friends, in response to the many questions that you have asked me in recent days… I say 'yes' it's true.

“I am going to America this summer… on holiday. But then I will return, for sure,” he concluded.lol... :D

I think it would take a lot to get Del Piero to leave Juventus... he went down to Serie B with them, after all.

Theres no doubt he is loyal as per him going to serie b with them... but at the twilight of his career and still able to put the ball in the back of the net.. The allure of money will play a huge role in us seeing him playing in MLS I suspect.

Maybe he is working on a Becks deal - playing on both teams. Refering to "Vacation" as playing for MLS.
