View Full Version : What would be your all time TFC starting 11?

Thinking back the three years of this team, it is easy thinking of poor player, but I started thinking who are my top 11 players. You will note that most are mids, and 4 are DMs, but it is what it is. I do think if it was together it would be a good MLS team, both ways.

^ Dunivant that is a player I would have played at Right Back, I forgot about him he was solid.

You are playing a 4-4-3, good foramtion it gives you numerical superiority.

O'Brien was another good player for us.

Seriously, I like trane's initial 11, and look at what Buddle and Cunningham can do. If only, for a change, we could make it to the second year of building a team.

Okay, I had trouble filling one spot. But I did not change your original that much, and it is what could've been this year. We really did not need the major overhaul we went through IMO. that doesnt look like a bad starting 11 to me. Offensive top 3, defensive minded back 7, with Cronin husseling down the wing, along with the left wide mid player. Robbo and JDG laying in smart passes to the top 3, or to the sides for the wide players to cross in,=.

Love this thread!!!

4-4-1-1

------------------Dichio-----------
-----------DeRo-------------------
Brennan-----------JDG-------Cronin
---------------Robbo--------------
Dunivat---Nana---Marshall---Wynne
----------------Frei---------------

-Dichio laying balls off to DeRo and an advancing JDG and heading crosses from Jimmy (the best winger we've had).
-DeRo gets more of a free role as the midfield should have enough toughness and defensive awareness to win the ball back.
-Pair Nana up with the best natural CB we've had that played regularily for us.

^ I see this alot, and I am asking seriously, not being critical, alot of people put the bigger player behind the faster player. Why?

I always prefer the bigger player upfront contorling the line and holding for the smaller faster, and likely more skilled player.

Celt,

I prefer Wynne at the back or as a WB, then as a pure RB. That would work well in my view. Brennan was effecitve going forward.

That 3-6-1, is not a bad idea considering we dont have a good striker on the current team. Manchester United, I think used this when Rooney was hurt and some other key players were hurt. They also used Tevez as the lone striker and had him move back with the 2 attacking midfielders to create a 3-7-0. I don't know what their record as a team was, but they did manage to maintain good form.

As far as an All-Time Team for the club. I would say we played our best in a 4-4-1-1. Our best team was the 2008 season roster, but the 2009 roster was the most talented and seriously underperformed throughout the year. Best coach was definitely John Carver, regardless of what his overall record was and what Chris Cummins record was as a caretaker.

My Best of All-Time:

My take would move Cronin to right back:

---------------------Frei-----------------
Cronin--Marshall--Attakora--Brennan
O'Brien--Guevara--DeGuzman--DeRosario
--------------Casey---Dichio--------------

Yeah, that's right, I said it, two target forwards. Actually, both are good finishers and generally with the ball at their feet. With two-way football emphasized, offensive breakouts become less important, as does upfront speed.

This team would kick ass, come to think of it.

Personally, I dont think Chad Barrett, should be in the Best XI, but he's here and so far until someone replaces him he's there.

Cronin or DeGuzman, I chose on the side of obvious and went with DeGuzman, mainly because he played better than Cronin in less amount of games than Cronin in a full season. Cronin to me was a disappearing act.

I would like that, the two big target forwards, they will give a very hard time and create a lots of space. I am more then OK with yours, the only thing is that I would prefer it, as a 4-3-1-2, De Ro playing the AM.

Couldn't figure out how to do that and have Ronnie O on the pitch. I guess if we went to a 4-3-1-2 I'd go with Nagamura as the third mid, maybe Robbo.

I have to say, this thread makes you stop and think what might have been had Mo had the foresight and patience to assemble a team properly. In the relatively short existence of the franchise, there have been several talented players go through the revolving door that has been TFC's roster. Unfortunately, there never seemed to be the right mix of players at any given time to produce consistent results...

Here's my 2 cents:

For future, I have high hopes for Hscanovics and Labrocca seeing, and wanting to only remember the first 45 mins if they can continue to make an impact they may get in here. Ty harden looked pretty good in pre-season Charleston cup but I haven't seen him play during regular season. (these are my prospects for future XI).

I feel like the club’s best 11 has to be selected based on the performance of the players while they wore our crest (with priority given to players who wore the red kit for at least a full season). Not sure whether these players could actually work in the 4-5-1 formation proposed

While Cunningham, Casey and Buddle are very good MLS strikers, I don’t think any of them did enough for our club to make our best 11. Similar rationale for eliminating Tebily, Robert, Mulroney etc. All decent players - just didn’t do enough for our club. I hope JDG makes this list one day, but he hasn’t earned his spot as of yet.

I've been a fan of Esky since before Toronto was even talking about having a team. So maybe I'm a little biased lol. Seriously though, what other player has crushed a can of red bull and spit it out after scoring a goal?!
If it wasn't for his concussions, he'd still be lighting up the league imo (biased as it may be)....
