View Full Version : We need people from each section

We started talking about this a couple of weeks ago.

http://www.redpatchboys.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=20849

As the first game gets closer, we need to start organizing how we are going to do this and how each section can get it done well.

So we need participants in each section that will take the lead in their respective sections. We're not asking for capos. We're asking for people who are going to be aware of what the ultimate goal is and will join in and encourage those around you to join in. Tell your neighbour and the guys behind you and in front of you. Help us by doing it enthusiastically even if the first few attempts don't catch on immediately.

I figure we need at least 5 people in each section. Please step up and make yourself known. Between RPB, Usector and non-affiliated fans, we must have 20-30 supporters that can help us get it done.

These are the sections in which we need help. The call will come from 110-114 which will be the responders.

Please post here if you are in those sections and can help:

Anyone?

Bueller?

Come on guys...we must have people in 115-119 on here?

This one is an easy one. Not much will be asked of you other than to be ready to respond when the Massive is called. Most of us already do that.

TFC Cityboy

115 reporting for duty. Our group (row 17-19 area bordering on 114 is pretty vocal as is an area a few rows down and towards 116. There is a deadzone near Rooney's area from what I see. Rooney - gerrit sorted, lad!

TFC Cityboy reporting for duty! :hurray:

Can I count on you to get 115 going? My guess is that 115 will be CRUCIAL in getting the response to work.

Between you guys, the Rooneys, Wagner I believe is there as well...115 can be the peg that makes this thing work and gets 116 going.

I am adding Rooney by default. He has no choice. LOL!

I am definetely in. I sit in section 117.

My section has a few problems... The people in the front row alsways do their own thing no matter what and there is a high turnover rate alot of new faces game in and game out

Do you have a group around you that will work with you to get this done?

I know who you are talking about but at the end of the day they can't overcome the entire south end and if we can get 117 and 118 on board, they will join in. They will have no choice.

Just for clarity (having read the thread) what sections are doing the "Qu'est ce vous chantez" and which is doing the response or are we all aiming it at the West Stand?

110-114 have the "call"

"Qu'est-ce que vous chantez?"

115-119 have the "response"

"Nous chantons les rouges allez!"

And then we all go crazy...

Section 116 needs a lot more noise this season. I've been in the first few rows of section 116 since the beginning and its been getting less vocal, less cheering. I've been one of the most vocal in that section. Started chants and songs. We need someone from Red Patch Boys or U-sector in that section to start chants and songs. I know the Firm is in that section, but I don't see much from them.

I also spoke to Boris about this last year and I hope he's reading this and can get some one from his group down to 116 for the start of the season. It's much needed.

Thanks

Thanks guys.

If this shows anything, it's that we know that there are people all over the stands willing to help, we just need to know where we all are.

Keep checking the first post in this thread for updated lists. As you can tell right now, what we need is maybe a couple of people in 115 and definitely a couple of people in 117.

118 I know we also have Hitcho wanting to get things going and he will be on board as soon as he sees this. And I will try to get a hold of the group that sits in the middle of 119, including Nascarguy to make sure they are on the same page. I believe they call themselves the "Lakeside Loyalists". They'll be on board for sure.

I hope we can get this done or there will be a lot of egg on my face!

I'll prep our group - about 20 of us at the top of 115 - nae worries. It's the pockets of shoegazers lower down that need a jolt. You should see John leap around down there trying to get them to sing - fuckin' pointless.

I've been checking from time to time into the 109/110 thread because at the end of the day, what the southwest stands will need is an incredibly loud and clear "call" from the southeast stands. If it's muffled, soft or jumbled, there will be no response and it will be a massive fail.

So it will truly fall on the capos (in 112 and 113) as well as the vocal leaders in 109/110 to time the "call" perfectly so that there is incentive for the "response" to come on time.

I am hoping to use flags of some sort to send messages among the capos.

What I am hoping for is to set certain times in the game beforehand where we have agreed to do this. This will not be happening all game long, once per half perhaps at designated times. We have seen how well the Dichio24 works because people expected it. Hopefully this will too.

This is coming together! 10 days to go!

We have nice support in 115, we have English Rachel taking care of business in 116 and we've managed to find a couple of 117ers that can help.

Where is my friend Hitcho? We need you in 118 buddy! We also have Jeffro in there that will do his part.

So we need maybe a couple more in 117 and we are putting the call out to anyone in 119 that will want to join us.

Roogsy - fucking great to have you in 118 this season dude!

I am in for sure, row 14. I'm not 100% on making the home opener, but if I don't go then I have two guys lined up to take my tickets who will definitely be in to help out.

As you will see this season, anything back of row 14 is a dead zone though. It's scalper heaven - always new faces - and behind them you've got...

So, if we want this to work, then you better get the TRN guys on board and looking out. They'll probably be up for joining in, but their usual approach is to "drum" the vocal parts and thereby drown out the voices around them. See if you can get them to put down the drums completely and just shout. Although a bigger problem is whether the call from the east side will be heard at all if those guys are in full swing.

TRN problems aside, I am in and I think we can make this work. There are some pretty regular faces in the front ten rows or so of 118 and I reckon a lot of them look like they will be up for something like this. We need to get everyone introduced and on the same page, because the front half of 118 could be really good I think. If you can turn off the steel band robots at the back...

Nice.

One other thing to think about though - there's a pretty good massive that gets going from 119 to 118 front half. I'd definitely look to include the 119 guys if we know anyone there. Better angle, good (and experienced) vocal input and if we're starting from 111 then it makes a nice sweep of the south end.

And you DEFINITELY need to have a word with TRN. I have tried so many times to get in with chants from other sections and failed dismally because you just cannot get enough of the timing, sound etc because of the FREAKING DRUMS. They are incessant. And very loud. Either you find a way to control them or they will control the section. (See Gixmo's post above for big FACT stamp to add emphasis to my point).

Good to see this initiative. I suggest for at least the first three games, you try to get your pockets of key people in each section standing together in the stands, regardless of where their actual seats are. Get the atmosphere started from one area, and it will grow. People will join in if a group gets going consistently, but they won't if its just one person singing beside them. You need to create a focal point first for things to spread out from.

We will likely have determined points in the game where we will be doing this. We don't want to "instruct" anyone on when to cheer and when to sing. We still want the crowd to be instinctive and spontaneous.

So like I mentioned, we will probably do this once per half at a preset time that we will work out with the capos days before the first game and that I will communicate here in this thread as well as through PM to those on the list of sections.

At that point, it will be up to us not only to keep an eye on the preset times but also to motivate those around us to join in when it happens. Like I said before, that may involve an embrassing first attempt where you may be the only singing in your row but that is the price we are asking you to pay at the beginning to help get started something that I think will be easy to catch on.

And to help, what we hope to have is a visible capo for this song only (don't worry those of you who are against capos in 117/118, this is not some grand scheme to get RPB to take over the sections), in front of the southwest stands, probably somewhere in front of 117 to coordinate with the capo in front of 113 for the timing of the call and response.

And I am trying to get him a flag or something else to get him noticed.

So what I can say now is thank you to those of you who are stepping up and please wait for more details.

And those of you reading this and who sit in these sections...please let us know if you can help. :scarf:

115 is gonna rock this year whether people want it to or not. Us lot will try and get on the same page as the Morgank crew to the west.

The problem is 114.

113 picks up 112/111 just fine, but the sound dies in 114 and as a consequence us loud-mouthed pissed-up supporters at the top of 115 have to try and get it to carry, but other less-committed will not make that effort if it's not carrying. We have 5 solid rows at the top east side that know all the songs...

I have thought about 114.

114 is a bit of a headscratcher. I don't know anyone there. I don't see much activity coming from there. And I don't know how they will respond.

Hopefully, they will take one side of this effort and give it their all.

In the meantime, I hope to work with sections where I know people and can ask them to help.

Sections 110-113 will bring it completely. They will send a call so powerful, so moving that we will have no choice but to respond.

Qu'est-ce que vous chantez?

And you will hear the cry from 115-119:

Nous chantons les Rouges allez!

Let's hope 114 joins with 110-113 and makes that call even stronger.

I have to say though, once I saw NEE doi it in conjunction with the bunker, well lets just say it grew on me (has awsome potential). I'm all for helping out for the greater good of the team if its something the majority of us want (whole point of belonging to an organization) even when it is something I may not like at first. I'll help control my mates on this one and even try to get them to join in (in a worst case scenario I'll just bribe them with pints!:drinking:).

What we would like to do is have a mix of songs and chants so that everyone gets a chance to do something they like. I have to admit, the Massive isn't exactly my favourite, but it works so damn well we have to acknowledge it and give it the place it deserves.

This is the best chance to get everyone from one end of the south to the other on board with something. Just to see what it would be like for thousands instead of hundreds joining in on a song, I think it's worth it. Tell that to the guys around you and hopefully they will be on board. :flare:

The Massive is good theatre too. It's something the casual fans will enjoy joining in with because it's fun, whereas they might not go for a rendition of the house on lakeshore.

Roogsy - stop ignoring my posts about TRN - what are you going to do about them? If thye are in full swing at the pre-determined times then you can forget about 118 being a part of anything, and probably parts of 119 and 117 too. That's a pretty big freakin' hole in the plan. You need to let them know when we are going to try this, and make sure they SHUT THE FUCK UP when we do, because if they try and "drum" the vocal parts it will kill the effort stone dead.

The problems here will be sound travelling. From 115 yo can barely hear what the bunker is saying. Also the sound gets staggered and loses its continuity. Id get the volunteers workin on specific cadences if you want to hold it together without a roof. Good luck peoples.

No roof and sound travel issues are going to be a problem true, but I suspect a much smaller problem than our attempt with NEE across the field. And that is why I think this will work. With NEE, it ALMOST worked. I mean it was "this close" to working but the roof issue I think is too difficult to overcome for that distance.

Here however, we are all in the same stand and sound will need to travel much, much less. While the physics of this will provide some obstacles, I think they can be overcome.

The cross field one that they do towards the end of the field is mental, unbelievable how well you can hear everyone...Are we going to put a certain minute on this chant just so that for the first time we have everybody together?

Also, where is the divide? 111-114 Call and 115-119 response?

Roogsy
04-13-2010, 10:03 PM
Ok guys...here are the details as we have them now.

First and foremost, the designated times for each half will be the 15 minute mark. Which means we will be doing it at the 15 minute and 60 minute marks.

Second, the divide is section 114/115.

Sections 110, 111, 112, 113 and 114 will be the ones doing the "calling".

Qu'est-ce que vous chantez?

Sections 115, 116, 117, 118 and 119 will be the responders.

Nous chantons les rouges allez!
Remember....15:00 and 60:00.

Third...we are working on getting a choreography director (LOL! Just my way of avoiding using the word "capo" knowing how averse people are to having one on the west side) to coordinate between the capos in 112/113 who will be starting the call itself. We don't know who it will be, but I hope to have something noticeable on them, whether it be a noticeable top or maybe some flags so that not only the crowds see them but also the capos on the other side of the stands.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions for this effort? We are all ears. This is a joint effort by all of us and it will be up to all of us to pull this off.

I am excited about this guys...I think we can do it.

Roogsy
04-13-2010, 10:22 PM
I will keep bumping this until Thursday. This is a priority over and above the negativity we have all been feeling the past few weeks. This is a chance for something really uplifting for everyone in the stadium, and the best part? It comes from the stands.

If we do this...maybe we can help the boys on the field gut out a result.

AND we will show Philly how it's done in Tdot baby.

Garzilla

04-13-2010, 11:10 PM
To start the season, we'd like to see if we can get the south stand to really perfect this to a T.

Once we get that done, the rest of the stadium will catch on and eventually we will have a WEST STAND vs EAST STAND massive.

And then nobody in the league can touch us. 20k fans and supporters doing a single chant? It will be better than any "This is our house" we have ever done.

But baby steps first. We need to get the south stand to show the way.

All those in 115 who have responded re the massive- please listen for the songs/chants from 112, carry them over the deadzone that is 114 and coerce those around us to join in. The area right behind the goal is traditionally the loudest support (and I don't just mean hockey-style goalie-baiting).

I was in 118, and couldnt hear the "qu'est-ce que vous chantez" at all.
Their were people in the section replying, even some from 119. but barely anyone carried the chant over the middle. at least that's what it felt like.
I was more focused on the guy in the front telling me when to reply, Rather then an automatic reply hearing the east side of the stands.

what do you expect when the people in front of me showed up 20 min late and then asked me who's playing who today.

I'm in 116, aka the black hole... I tried, but one amongst many is a tough go... People in my section simply don't know the chants.. Something to educate these people needs to be done.. Forget handing out rain pauncho, time to hand out CD's...Any ideas? Roogsy great effort, don't give up, it will happen...You did see them sing the Dichio, only cause they now it..

116 needs educating...

Like I said before it doesnt work going sideways. I could barely hear the call when it came. And thats not because it wasnt loud, its because sound doesnt work that way. The corner massive was great but I heard 111 as three times as loud as the bunker. I think this shows the best thing going forward is to expand it outwards from the corner as far as possible...or get a roof.

I'm not sure where in 116 you are but there are pockets at best and it's mainly due to the scalper tickets in there. There was almost a full row empty behind me last night and it's almost always different folks in that row game in and game out.

As also mentioned, without a roof the sound goes up and to the north from 112, so it's tough hearing anything from there at times. Let's not even mention TRN and that incessant fucking drumming!

My thoughts from 111

As soon as 112 turned left and called out to the corner you could hear a pin drop in 111. It was simply not heard. The big voices in 112 didn't carry backwards(Logicaly). There were a few of us in 111 who were spreading the news through the section however there are plenty of people who do not know the song, or any chants really well/apprehensive to be the loud voice. We will work on fixing that obviously. I don't think it will last.

When 112 turned to 111 and called out, the stand shook as people had picked it up. Big props to the guy in row 32, White jersey for giving it his all - He kept on going. There was also an older gentleman who was 'new to the RPB' in 32 on the rail who had a throat like a cannon. He let fly on the 112/111 massive and the whole section engaged it. Some didn't know the words, however you can mumble it out and it sounds legitimate The two guys beside me were seemingly new to Toronto Football.. Not alot of people knew player names etc.. Some thought Danny Dichio was still on the pitch

The second half massive was the best yet. We had some folks return to 111 for a little impromptu gathering and they brought the noise hard. Even Mr. EastEndBoy was giving it his all. The crew from last year was back and they brought it hard.

We need to do a few things in 111. We need to introduce a drum up high. The drum in 110 isn't doing it, and alot of the time last night was thumping something different then the bunker. Not his/her fault really, as they likely couldn't hear 112. If we can close that gap, we can do it. Also, I know it's not everyone's first choice - But a megaphone would work wonders. There were alot of empty seats up there, so we can also get some more RPB to travel up top and help out if need be (Warning, yellow card :) ) The energy seems to be there, however lots of shy folk.

I was in 119 and tried jumping in on these chants too but I felt the same in that sometime i heard there was a chant going on but it was too far away to tell which one it was, so i couldn't sing them as much as i would have liked

I'm in row three..Row one has different people in it every game, two and up all SSH.. I am confident most of them would enjoy participating in all the chants, but as you mentioned we can't hear shit from the bunker, and when we do we're late and way off que..I think if I here the this is our house one more time, my head will explode...

The only positive thing from, that chant and reds go marching in, is that people are participating.. So I honestly think that 116 can do, but they need to learn the chants.. Question is how can it be taught to people not on this forum?

Repetition, the more people hear songs the more they'll get involved. I don't even remember hearing this is out house last night???

Song sheets have been handed out twice before that I recall but it didn't have much effect.

This did not work out well...
I really tried my best to get it going in 115 on the reply but since 114 wasn't really aiming our way I think people were really confused. There is a good lot of us in 115 but 114 seems to be full of scalper tickets other than a few groups here and there.

Hi guys...ok I've had an evening to think about it and gather my thoughts. As the guy "on the ground" and the guy who was trying to organize things, I sort of put my rep on the line for this and the fact is it didn't come off. Reasons why I believe it didn't work:

No roof. Dear heavens it is so obvious on the pitch level that the sound travels UP and now to the side. As the guy standing down there by himself (a nerve-racking experience let me tell you) I could BARELY hear 111-113 at all. I can only imagine how impossible it was if you were someone in the stands.

The BMO VIP seats in 115/116. Dear heavens, those seats completely inhibit interaction with the supporters standing behind. It was a major factor in being unable to get those crucial sections going.

The dead zone. 114 is quite disappointing. I will simply state that. Wow. If you guys want to know where the sound is stopping, I will tell you quite plainly, look at 114.

Resistance. I got very clear indications that there were large segments that did not want to do the "french song". One person plainly told me "they do that, we don't". Disappointing to say the least.

Too ambitious. Yup. My name is Icharus and I flew too high. I think we need to bring down the expectations of our ability to overcome the lack of roof. Therefore, I would like your input on an AMENDED IDEA.

Instead of a south stand massive from 111-114 vs 115-119...how about TWO simultaneous massives that start at the same time? So while the gap starts the massive in the south east the south west also starts the massive the same way. That way, we are not coordinating with the two ends of the south stands other than to start the chant at the same time and hope that they are sung at the same speed.

The problem? This leaves the middle (114-116) out of the loop, which I really want to avoid and would like to incorporate into the plan.

What do you think guys? This may overcome the distance issue and brings down the effort to a more manageable level?

Roogsy, you need to get rid of all the scalper seats before something like this could ever really work. Shagging posted that we need repetition. That's true, but we need repetition of faces before repetition of chants will be ingrained into people.

The single biggest problem that this kindof project will face is that you have a revolving door of people in the south stand and only a handful of people in each section (outside SG hot spots) to help with this. That number of helpers will not grow until the scalpers are gone and regular fans are in regular seats on a consistent basis.

And then ocne you've got the scalpers out, you need to find a way to get TR fucking N out.

Until that's done, I think we need to be realistic and accept that south end unfication is beyond a pipe dream, it;s an impossibiity.

Having said that, I do think we could get a good massive going from 118 to 119 and 219 (the upper deck above 119, if that;s the rigth numbering system), especially if we can get some 117 people to join in. That should be the next task. Take what we've got in those areas and work with it. Forget about trying to convernt faceless tourists who will never be back again.

I did hear the " we aren't french" Comment from a few..My response was, like it or not, this contry is bilingual...

Wonder if another choice is more appropriate? Get them to buy into the idea of chanting and go from there...I don't know what the right answer is, but we need to find the solution to get these sections on board..

I have had the same seats since day one, and I can tell you that last night was one of the most dreadful..The Dichio song was the only moment the section actually came alive. ( aside from the goals)..

simultaneous massives sounds great but seems like its just as unlikely to work because of the large number of spectators not interested in singing...111/112 massive obviously works, perhaps we can slowly move outwards, try to get it even louder by going 110-113, continue onwards from there...if we got east enders involved it could slowly expand and still always be centered at the bunker

Yeah the Cross chant is difficult.. I have been saying for years we can hear the bunker to lead our side. I am no Capo, atleast not with 10+ cold ones in my blood..LOL...

Thats it all the 50/50 should go to a roof..we'll have it in 10 years...lol

I must say, that from 132, it sounded very good, particularly during the first half. I'm surprised how well the sound travelled across the pitch. Every player in the stadium can hear this. I was scratching my head a bit as it clearly didn't go to the southwest corner ... but there was no indication from the north that anything was amiss.

I take the blame for the lack of participation in the 60th.
We sing the Beans song (Oh when the beans come out the tin) in the 57th and it was just rockin' so much we did a Spurs-style slow version that segued into a pogo-ing punk version.
I looked at the clock, saw it was 61st minute thought "oh bugger" and drank some more.

Having said that there was a decent effort in the 15th minute, but 114 needs a very small tactical nuclear missile dropped on it...

Simultaneous massives won't work, because they won't be simultaneous. If you get one side a bit ahead, or lagging a bit behind, it will throw everyone off.

As much as we tried to be nice with the South End Wide Massive... it just didn't work...

People over there (besides our members and a few others) just don't want to participate... they do their own thing.

All the best to them

I do believe that the people over there/here, just don't know the chants..How do we provide the info to people not on the board without using song sheets?

I know we tried the capo infront of 117 and that didn't work, cause a few chased you out. But what if you get 20 capos AKA the chanting mob for a few games visit each section and teach some of the easy ones? I don't know what the solution is, but it's out there somewhere..

for the first go at it I had all the nay-sayers (that i know) either on board to chant or at least willing to keep quiet and not chant any "we're not french" stuff. The problem is that when it didn't work the first time my influence over my pals kinda dwindled off for the next attempt. It is tough to time it well cause of all the dead spaces but I guess we'll just have to keep trying.

I am thinking more of a simultaneous start only...beyond that, each section is on their own. I am fully aware that they won't stay in sync at all. But at least we know at a certain moment that we are giving a push for a lot of action from the stands.

By the way guys, I am wanting to apologize for not making it to the game in time to spread the printouts I had made. I was at the stadium earlier then had to leave to drop off the little lady and then pick up the kids I was taking to the game. By the time I fought off traffic, we were walking into the stadium as the game started and I raced to get down on the field level to try to get the crowd going.

That was my bad. I am not sure it would have helped much though but still.

Thanks for all your help guys...we will keep working on this in some way to make sure we can get all sections in the south stands going with something, somehow.
