Do my old man eyes deceive me? But is there an MLS game scheduled on the same day as the world cup final, July 11'th? That's a bit stupid.

the game is at 10:30pm.

Not that it would matter anyways, isn't South Africa 7 hours difference? In all likelyhood the game would have to be a 2 AM start to conflict with most MLS games which are played in the evening.

True. But is it just me or is it a dumb move? Is MLS the only league going at that time? I think all of Europe plays over the winter. Do the S. Americans play over the winter? I thought they play a summer schedule too? Anyway....

there is a 2 week break the MLS is taking for the group stages. How many of the current players (besides the majority of the USA team) will make it passed the group stages.

There are a few leagues going at that time.

At least TFC is not playing on the same day. Unfortunately we're playing around the same time as the Champions League, however I do believe that they're working on moving the game so people can watch both (and have time in between to travel from/to stadium).

South Africa is is GMT+2. Seattle (PDT) is GMT-7. The World Cup game should be done by about 11 pm in South Africa (2 pm PDT). With a 7:30 pm PDT start, the MLS game starts at 4:30 AM on July 12 in South Africa. I'm not even sure that counts as the same day!

Looking at the entire schedule, the only World Cup game that comes close to conflicting is the June 27 Round of 16 match (my money would be on Mexico/Argentina or Mexico/Nigeria) which starts at 8:30 pm in South Africa (2:30 pm EDT) which may only finish shortly before the 5:00 pm EDT match in Philadelphia with Seattle.

Given that the World Cup lasts 5 weekends, it seems to me that MLS has gone out of their way to avoid conflicts!

I think all of Europe plays over the winter.

Nope, many European countries have leagues that run on a schedule designed to avoid winter. Belarus is an April-November leauge, Denmark takes a 3 month winter break, Estonia has a March-November league, Faroe Islands plays April-October I believe, Finland plays April-October, Iceland plays May-September, Kazakhstan plays April-November, Latvia plays March-November, Lithuania plays April-October, Norway is March-November. Russia plays March-November, Sweden plays April-November, Ukraine takes almost three months off staring in December.

Start time is 10:30 pm EST.Yeah, not sure what I was thinking. 7:30 pm PDT. Hmm, that's 9:30 pm EST not 10:30 EST. It's 10:30 PM EDT. Still it starts many hours after the World Cup game ends; no conflict.
