I really like seeing Garber talk about more than just TFC and Vancouver when he mentions MLS in Canada. Seems to me that Ottawa is still in the back of his mind.

I still don't really know what to make of Ottawa as a candidate for expansion. There's no doubt in my mind that a stadium out in Kanata would be a disaster unless a major change is made to the city's transit system or roadways. If they can work out a location more central in the city, I don't see a problem with the area being able to sustain a good crowd.

before I moved here I didn't think having a team out in Kanata was such a big deal, but now I can see how much of a pain it'll be for people who don't/can't want to drive out there.

Hopefully Melnyk can work a deal to play at Lansdowne, cause this town would be great for the MLS, they really love their soccer here.

Tom Anselmi was on the Fan590 today. Just as he started talking about this year's friendlies my reception completely cut out (I work across the street from the studio, go figure). Anyway, did anyone hear what he had to say?

Yes. And if you listen to Garber's interviews from yesterday he mentions time and again that having a stadium in a downtown area which is easily accessible as one of the key ingredients to having a successful franchise.

Mo quote from the Sun story:

"If you can’t produce and you don’t do well, then we shouldn’t be in the profession.”

I am wondering how how they will be doing the tickets to the MLS Cup. I don't think they can give the STH's first right of refusal on their seats if they plan to make seats available for the supporters of the two teams involved because they wouldn't be able to group them together....unless one of them is TFC or course then they can just stick all of the other supporters in the North End but I won't go there at this point.

Yeah, anyone read the subtle jab in Mo's quote, alluding to shared blame:

“The goal is to get to the playoffs, (try) to get to the final, no ifs or buts,” Johnston said.

“It’s going to give everyone a boost (but) if you can’t produce and you don’t do well, then we shouldn’t be in the profession.”

Yeah? Who's this "we," motherfucker?

The "we" is his return dig to Anselmi and the rest of the suits at MLSE. Yesterday the Leafs were elminated from he playoffs and the Raptors will bow out this weekend.

Story in todays Ottawa Sun mentions that a former Ottawa Fury player from the PDL just signed with Dallas in MLS... where is that story... here it is...

"Eddie Edwards has signed with FC Dallas making him the second player from the Fury PDL club, after Tyler Hemming, to play pro in MLS".

Methinks I am gonna try to get out to a few more Ottawa Fury games this season.

How's that Kanata thing working for the Senators? Forty something games per season, most of them driven to in dark, wintery, rush hour conditions.

Pretty full most night, from what I can see.

Going to a Saturday afternoon MLS game there would be a doddle with no rush hour to deal with. Decent transit links, too. If the choice came down to Melnyk putting a stadium there and getting a franchise or not having a team at all, it'd be an easy one to make. Eugene's good at getting what he wants.

re: attendance...not so much. even games versus the leafs don't always sell out. infact, they had to lower ticket prices because the draw isn't so good this season.

transit for sens games is better than other events, but still not great. when i went to the leafs game a few weeks back, i was meeting people there. they wanted to take the bus but every bus that passed was packed, then nothing. only reason they finally got a bus was cause they flagged down an OC transpo supervisor who they bitched at ill he called for another bus.

as for other events, well, I was told they had 1 bus going to SBP for the Billy Talent concert. Otherwise you had to take a regular bus then hoof it a fair distance.

Ottawa isn't big enough to have two publicly funded outdoor sports stadiums, so I don't see a SSS being built unless Melnyk pays for it himself.

Got out to one game last year, Mark. The Fury are actually extremely good. They play great football.

Whats going on with the team? Haven't heard anything since they came back from Columbus. Are they training this week? Any new trialists? Is the Gerba fiasco settled?
