Where is everyone?

I was hoping for a packed house, what a waste for such a nice stadium.

ya i thought the Santos and MLS home opener games were sold out. It was packed last week, but man, everyone must be still at the pisser or beer lines.

Man New York has some speed out wide. Do not want to play them right now.

Edit:some of these guys have more speed than they know what to do with. Wide open from 20 yards out ... dribbles into the defenders packed in the 18 yard box...

Very nice goal.

It's relatively even though. Both these teams look dangerous.

Pretty poor turnout ... looked half empty ... and this was the home opener ...

I'll take the under on 13k fans for their next midweek game. Although it'll probly be an 'announced' sellout ...

It seemed 90% full 20-30 minutes into the game and it sounded loud as well...

No where near a sellout and this was their first game of the season. It does look great but this might be one of a handful of games anywhere near a sellout. The rest will probably 14 or 15,000 if their lucky. Nice and loud enthusiastic crowd for the most part. Don"t compare it to epl, only 2 teams, maybe 3 have stadiums less than 35,000 capacity.

anyone notice that the quality of play in the MLS is alot better when TFC is not involved in the game??

Yeah the game was really entertaining. Comparing the pace of TFC-Columbus to this game is apples and oranges.

Colins John And McBride up front looks really dangerous.

Collins John needs to stop making faces after every play. if a teammate did something wrong he looked sour.

Interesting that the Chi coach took out McBride because he felt Collins John and McBride were too similar up front.

Linepere looks great for NY. I'll be watching this Dykstra kid for Chicago -- definitely looked nervous in his first game. NY fans say he wasnt dealing well with the ribbing they were giving him (DICK-STRA!). and I'm not sure about Bouna Condoul. Shaky at best there. Sutton would be a lot more composed than Condoul I think.

From the post game report... ugh- if only we had rooooof:

Estonian midfielder Joel Lindpere scored on a sparkling 19-yard shot in the 40th minute of his Major League Soccer debut, and New York opened the season by beating the Chicago Fire 1-0 Saturday night in the first official match at $200 million Red Bull Arena."I thought Seattle last year was unbelievable. Toronto is always unbelievable.

This brings it to a new level with the noise that's generated underneath the roof and echoing," Red Bulls defender Mike Petke said. "It's the way a sporting event should be."

What was the attendance? The new MLS website seems very poor, and I can't find it.

According to the players it's so loud they struggle to communicate on the pitch and can barely hear each other 10 yards away. A big change from being able to eavesdrop on fan conversations last year.

I'd say things in New York have improved at least ten-fold since around this time last year:

Birmingham, Portsmouth, Fulham, Wigan, Blackburn, Burnley, Wolverhampton, Bolton, Hull City all have under 35,000 seats. So just about half the teams have less then 35,000 not just 2 or 3.

... and the higher the salary cap can be, bringing in better players, upping the quality of the league.
