well the only two players preki made reference to playing a striker role are de rosario and white. he said they could play one or two up front. and seeing we have very few defenders, i suspect preki may want to control more of the midfield and have less guys in the back thus the saric and labrocca signings.

just taking what mo said here as "defensive" when he refers to "steel" and thinking he would be more of a holding mid...? i dunno.

No Cronin? I think he'll be in the line-up, and I don't think Labrocca yet. Also, I hope that he does go with a 4-4-2, OBW showed me in the pre-season that he can't score alone up front... actually few players can.

In the Fan 590 interview last night Preki said he plays with a central midfield pair both of which are responsible for playing forward and back. He said he doesn't play with a holding mid.

Rationale is that Saric played right wing in Europe, and he just joined the team; Labrocca is a killer two way player in the middle, underrated, JDG can play two ways and so can Gabe.

Cronin's crossing, tackling and industry all fit right back, and we need Attakora more in the middle to, uh, guarantee some competency. Harden showed well at left back but is a better centre half. Jimmy won't get up and down the wing as well as Gabe, so I"d leave him at left back. Preki seems to play fairly rigidly at the back, using the fullbacks conservatively, which also suits Brennan.

It's actually a pretty competitive lineup now that Labrocca's there. We just have no lethal finishing, no bench depth and no familiarity. (Eek, when I put it that way....)

They might be better but at some point our young and inexperienced youth can only improve.

Every prediction seems to be based on players and where they were at in their skill set last year. The truth is that younger players are on their way to a peak whereas older guys decline over time.

No reason to think that some of those younger players might improve on their performances from last year.

Apparently, he's played both, but mostly played on the right side in Europe. He's more a winger/playmaker than the two-way mid type Preki is talking about, so it'll be interesting to see if he's back in the centre again tomorrow.

I am sad to say, we should include Garcia in our lineup, because Preki likes him and feels he can do the job.

Don't forget Garcia gets a fresh start with Preki. Preki is giving him the benefit of the doubt. Until Garcia screws up (probably in game 1), he is our starting CB...period.

My concern will be Robbie Rogers finding space out wide and shredding out backline. Other than that, nobody up top for Columbus is really the speedy time that's going to pull away from the defenders.

They have guys who are pesky and technically sound. Now when we play a team like Colorado or New York with all their speedy wing players, i will be quite concerned.

Crew are a good MLS side, but we honestly matchup alright with them in comparison to some other sides.

The good thing about that, they all played together at the Crapids and sounds like they were pretty tight. The LaBrocca interview, he says it will definitely help them integrate into the squad and I definitely agree. It's like putting a big chunk of puzzle in at once, instead of trying to figure out 4 different pieces at the same time.
